Packers Calendar: Former Assistant John Bonamego to Be Introduced as CMU Coach

Bonamego was the special teams coordinator for the Packers from 2003 to 2005. He'll hold a press conference Monday at Central Michigan.

Former Green Bay Packers assistant John Bonamego was hired on Sunday as the new head coach of Central Michigan University. He'll be introduced as head coach on Monday with a press conference at 2:30 p.m. local time.

Bonamego was the Packers special teams coordinator from 2003 to 2005, during which time the Packers won two division titles in 2003 and 2004, while on the staff of Mike Sherman.

For the past two seasons Bonamego was special teams coordinator of the Detroit Lions, a division rival that will be forced to look fill Bonamego's void.

Coincidentally, the Packers also have a hole to fill at special teams coordinator after firing Shawn Slocum, although reports would indicate that Ron Zook will be promoted from within the organization.

Bonamego will take over for Dan Enos, who left to become offensive coordinator at Arkansas on the staff of head coach Bret Bielema.

The Central Michigan Chippewas went 7-6 this past season and qualified for the Bahamas Bowl. They placed three players at the recently announced NFL Combine, making it challenge for the team to replace pro-level talent.

Those going heading to the NFL Combine next week are wide receiver Titus Davis, running back Thomas Rawls and defensive lineman L.T. Walton.
