Packers Calendar: First Training Camp Practice Plus 5K Run

Coach Mike McCarthy will also hold a "chalk talk" inside the Tundra Tailgate Zone on Saturday.

Football is here.

The Green Bay Packers hold their first training camp practice of 2014 at 8:20 a.m. CT on Saturday at Ray Nitschke Field, which is free and open to the public.

It's the first of 17 opportunities to see the Packers this summer as they get ready for the start of the season in September.

The Packers simply getting back to action will be the main storyline on Saturday, but people will be wanting to find out why five players began the season on various injured lists.

Presumably, outside linebackers Nick Perry and Mike Neal won't be practicing after being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list on Friday.

In addition, defensive linemen Letroy Guion and Jerel Worthy were declared on the non-football injury list and rookie wide receiver Jeff Janis on the non-football illness list.

Mike McCarthy will hold a post-practice press conference at appoximately 11:00 a.m. CT, which will be the first opportunity for the head coach to discuss the newly revealed injuries.

The press conference will be streamed live at Packers.com.

Those visiting training camp should be greeted by a beautiful day with temperatures about 68 degrees at the outset of practice and nearing 76 degrees by the end at 11:00 a.m. There will be mostly sunny skies and no chance of precipitation during practice.

The Packers are unveiling daily features for fans inside the Ray Nitschke lot throughout training camp this year, and on Saturday they can visit the Chevy Packers Mobile Tour from 6:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Located in their "fan cave," the tour includes game stations, classic video reels, a photo booth, and lounge areas to watch the Packers, as well as opportunities to register for promotions and a sweepstakes.

Also new for the first time this year is the American Family Insurance Dream Zone, opening for the first time on Saturday and located inside the Tundra Tailgate Zone inside the Lambeau Field parking lot.

The Dream Zone consists of: Football Toss, Photo Opportunities, Lambeau Leap, Interactive Pylons (Trivia, Write-ins and Word Play), Community Walls (each wall asks a different question, all relating to dreams with a nod to football/Packers and prompt people to walk around the space and write answers on the walls).

Also sponsored by American Family Insurance, head coach Mike McCarthy is giving a public "chalk talk" inside the Dream Zone after practice on Saturday, free and open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Finally, the first day of training camp wraps up in Green Bay on Saturday with the fifth annual Packers 5K, which takes participants around the Lambeau Field neighborhood and a lap inside the stadium before finishing in the parking lot.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with packet pickup taking place from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. inside the Lambeau Field atrium. Participants must have registered ahead of time.

Former Packers players Bill Schroder, Tony Fischer and Dexter McNabb will be running with fans.

For those that can't make it out to Green Bay, the NFL Network is airing Inside Training Camp Live from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with reporter Stacy Dales checking in live from Green Bay throughout the day.
