Packers Blog Roundup: Three Cuts Coming Today

The Packers' roster has to be down to 80 players later today. A prediction comes from a Packers blogger.

The Packers currently have 83 players on their roster and have to be down t0 80 by later today. Brandon Benson of Acme Packing Company predicts the three to be cut will be linebacker K.C. Asiodu, safety Anthony Levine and defensive lineman Eli Joseph. "He may be the most unimpressive defensive lineman in camp, and with DE C.J. Wilson returning from a concussion, they may not need so many defensive lineman on Thursday night," writes Benson of Joseph.

A case is made to keep fullback Quinn Johnson on the 53-man roster by Michael Rodney of Packer Update. "Johnson may have the grace of an elephant and the hands of a bricklayer, but the guy can open holes," writes Rodney. "He’s naturally thick and powerfully built, he has explosive power to roll his hips and generate movement as a lead blocker and he plays physically and will finish blocks and try to bury defenders into the ground. That’s exactly the type of fullback the Packers need when they’re nursing a lead with 12 minutes left in the game. It’s also exactly the type of fullback John Kuhn has never been and will never be."

The challenge of constructing a 53-man roster is detailed at Lombardi Ave. "No doubt, McCarthy and GM Ted Thompson will utilize as much of the game to make final decisions on the likes of Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood, Nick McDonald, Tori Gurley and so many, many others who have been fighting for a roster spot with the world champs," reads the blog post in reference to the final preseason game.

At Green Bay Packer Nation, battles among the rookies fighting for roster spots are broken down by offense and defense.

Levine still has not returned from concussion from what I have seen. If they were to cut him now would that mean an injury settlement? ... I'd substitute the S Bratton for him for today's cut IMO.

This rash of concussions makes me wonder just how commonly concussed players were on the field before the NFL's new found vigilance.

Mike Vick just got a new 6yr 100 mil contract, he should thank Clay personally for knocking out Kolb (who by the way got 60 mil of his own) and then thank the Redskins D for the MNF show they let him put on
