Packers Blog Roundup: Cuts Made by Emergence of Other Players

The rise of players like Chastin West, Ryan Taylor and D.J. Williams may have led indirectly to the cuts of Brett Swain and Spencer Havner.

With news that Brett Swain and Spencer Havner were cut yesterday, focus is on what the Packers will do to get down to 53 players. "Maybe they'd have had a chance if the Packers had problems with depth at either position, but rookie TEs Ryan Taylor and D.J. Williams have had strong camps," writes Brandon Benson of Acme Packing Company. "If the selection of WR Randall Cobb wasn't enough to force Swain off the roster, the emergence of WR Chastin West sealed the deal. Unfortunately for Taylor, Williams, and West, I still don't know if the Packers will have enough room to keep all three of them."

The 2011 Packers season is previewed by Tony Atkins of the UWM Post. "The Packers are in prime position to become repeat champions this season," writes Atkins. "They kept the right pieces to ensure more wins in the seasons to come and will have great wins to look back on with the ones they let go. Only time will tell, but the future is looking brighter than ever for Wisconsin’s own Green Bay Packers."
