Packers begin interviewing defensive coordinator candidates
A list of reports of interviews and requests that have been made by the Packers for their DC position.
By PackerAaron

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has begun the process of interviewing and putting in requests for interviews to fill his vacant defensive coordinator position.
Here's what we know as of Friday afternoon.
LaFleur met today with former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley.
Former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is interviewing for the Packers vacant DC job, sources tell me and @DMRussini.

LaFleur has also apparently already interviewed Broncos defensive backs coach Christian Parker. (Parker got his start in the NFL under Mike Pettine in Green Bay as a defensive quality control coach)
The #Packers have interviewed rising #Broncos DBs coach Christian Parker for their vacant defensive coordinator job, source said. Just 32 years old, Parker has impressed.

The Packers have sought permission to speak with Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde.
Green Bay, the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta have sought permission to speak to Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde, per multiple sources. He has been with the team since 2021, having spent 5 years with Dan Quinn in Atlanta, where he also worked with new coach Raheem Morris.

LaFleur has also sought permission to speak with Bills linebackers coach Bobby Son Of Bob Babich. (Old heads like myself will remember his old man as a former defensive coordinator for the Bears)
The #Packers requested permission to interview #Bills LB coach Bobby Babich for their defensive coordinator job, source says. Babich, who recently interviewed with the #Giants for the same role, will meet with Green Bay.

UPDATE: The Packers continue to cast their nets:
The #Packers requested to speak with #Ravens secondary coach Dennard Wilson for their vacant defensive coordinator job, source said. He's also interviewing with the #Titans today for their DC job, and the #Rams and #Giants have talked to him, as well.

Another Ravens assistant will also be interviewing with Matt LaFleur:
The #Packers requested to interview #Ravens ILB coach Zach Orr for Green Bay’s defensive coordinator position, per source. Orr is a former Ravens LB who is projected as a DC very soon. Orr has been a close lieutenant to Mike Macdonald in Baltimore.

I don't want to see anyone with ties to the Fangio coach tree. That system is done.

I don't know Aden Durde, but from this picture he looks like he would scare the $#!^ out of the players. I'd take that some of that kick arse attitude.

He has no hair? He would get too cold in GB. Except in the summer of course. LOL

Staley worries me a bit as Lafleur likes to hire guys he knows and Staley has had one really good year as a DC (Ram's Super Bowl year) and otherwise not so hot a track record. Don't know much about the younger guys. Interesting that no Martindale, Rivera, or Del Rio - seems to be avoiding the retreads other than Staley.

LaFleur has never coached with Staley and Staley was with the Chargers when the Rams won the SB. Other than that 💯

Minter would be a great hire imo.

Parker seems to be the most promising on this short list. He's young and highly regarded, and I'm sensing he would be a very good fit with our organization. Parker has also interviewed with the Patriots.

Weaver,Minter and Aranda are the names I'd like to see.

I am biased for a former Badger DC named Leonard or Aranda.
Jim and Matt hit it off and made Jim think about accepting the lucrative offer Matt offered. I understand why he did not accept. In retrospect, he'd probably make a different decision.
I do not believe Dave and Matt have ever crossed paths. I believe it would be an incredibly productive interview, if Dave were interested moving on from Baylor.
Both Leonard and Aranda employ attacking, creative defenses. Offenses have to react to what their defenses do.
I really like Jim. I believe Dave is the better option and more rounded running a large organization.

This is imo, the best job available and I don't see any worthy candidates offered up as of yet.
Just as my mentor/boss once said you have to kiss a lot of frogs.... Next!

I hear that Martindale is tough to be around (by everybody) for more than 1 year.Vrabel was Matt's boss when he was OC in TN. and not always happy w/Matt.
Don't think those 2 are in contention.

People are fixating on lineages and trees. Picking single game examples as reasons to hire or not hire. "Don't hire this"..."Go get that." Hiring narrowly based on lineage and isolated examples is what brought Barry to GB and kept him there for 3 years.
Hire a guy with a good mind, an ability to work with colleagues and teach players, and a track record of doing good stuff.

I want to see a guy that worked in a successful system, and wants to implement a more attacking system.
I also wouldn't mind a 4-3 system like Holmgren and Fritz ran.
Perhaps someone that can teach them how to tackle would be an added bonus.
