Packers Are Reportedly First Team to Talk to TE Jacob Pedersen at Senior Bowl
With Senior Bowl practices underway in Mobile, Alabama this week, the top college football seniors from around the nation are on display for NFL scouts and coaches.
The Green Bay Packers might have a need at tight end in the 2014 draft, with last season's injury and end of his current contract looming for Jermichael Finley and the Wisconsin Badgers might have the player for them.
The Badgers have had previous success sending tight ends to the NFL and this year's Jacob Pedersen hopes to follow in the footsteps of Lance Kendricks and Owen Daniels.
Pedersen, a 6' 3", 242 pound tight end, with 39 receptions - 3 for touch downs - last season, grew up a Packers fan and it appears he is on his childhood team's radar, as the Packers were the first team to talk with Pedersen at the Senior Bowl.
Per Ty Dunne, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Pedersen is trying to be a complete tight end and describes himself as,
"I'm kind of a finesse blocker, I'll call it," Pedersen said. "I can get on my guys and give a seam to the running back. In the pass game, I'm a steady eddie. I can do the short routes. I can get on top and run the seams. Just trying to be that type of guy."

I've seen him in the 6-7 category. This might be right up the old TT alley.

Like most of the Badgers in the draft his year, I think Pedersen's going to be a great value pick whichever round he is picked. He has great ball skills and was every bit as good as Daniels and Graham early on in his career, but the changes in offensive coordinators the last two years in college really marginalized his productivity and his lack of size will push him back a round or two as well.

Yeah, I was surprised when Pederson measured in at 6'3. I thought he was closer to 6'5.
That really does make a difference and I think it will hurt him a round.
If I were to guess right now I think he will be a 5th - 6th round pick right now.

When will we find out what round our picks will be for Jennings and Walden? I keep hearing a 3rd and 5th but I am not familiar with how the compensation picks are awarded. I ask because I was wondering of the likelihood of TT trading up for a TE and was wondering if there are any TE in this draft worthy of moving up for? granting that if we move up we should go D first (what I saw last year on D was enough to give an ulcer to anyone).

It's a mystery formula that no one really knows, but since we didn't pick up any free agents to offset our losses it should pretty much be determined by the richness of the contracts they signed. Jennings' was pretty big so they estimate a 3rd and Walden's was about 4 mil/year which is significant but not great. I'm guessing that's worth a 6th if not a 5th.
