Packers 46-Man Roster Prediction for Week 13 at Lions

Will players like Sam Shields, Nick Perry and Don Barclay play on Thursday? Cheesehead TV has the prognostication.

Here's our best guess at predicting the Green Bay Packers' game-day roster for Sunday's Week 12 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Reminder, only 46 players can be active...

The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn

Running back: Eddie Lacy, John Kuhn, James Starks, Johnathan Franklin

Wide receiver: Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Jarrett Boykin, Myles White, Chris Harper

Tight end: Andrew Quarless, Ryan Taylor, Brandon Bostick, Jake Stoneburner

Offensive line: David Bakhtiari, Josh Sitton, Evan Dietrich-Smith, T.J. Lang, Don Barclay, Marshall Newhouse, Lane Taylor, Derek Sherrod

Defensive line: Datone Jones, B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, C.J. Wilson, Johnny Jolly, Mike Daniels, Josh Boyd, Jerel Worthy

Outside linebacker: Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, Mike Neal, Nate Palmer, Andy Mulumba

Inside linebacker: A.J. Hawk, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore

Cornerback: Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Micah Hyde, Davon House, Jarrett Bush

Safety: Morgan Burnett, M.D. Jennings, Jerron McMillian, Chris Banjo, Sean Richardson

Special teams: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Commentary:

  • Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (collarbone), running back Johnathan Franklin (concussion/neck), defensive lineman C.J. Wilson (ankle) and linebacker Jamari Lattimore (quadricep) have all officially been ruled "out" of Thursday's game.
  • The Lattimore injury has flown under the radar, but without him, the Packers have no backup at the inside linebacker position and it hurts the Packers special teams as well.
  • Brandon Bostick (concussion) has been listed as "questionable" for the Thanksgiving Day game, giving him roughly a 50/50 chance to play. The guess here is that he sits.
  • The list of players deemed "probable" for the Lions game is lengthy: Sam Shields (hamstring), Nick Perry (foot/ankle), Mike Neal (abdomen), Johnny Jolly (groin), Josh Sitton (back), Don Barclay (knee) and Marshall Newhouse (shoulder). All are predicted to be active.
  • With such a banged-up offensive line, the Packers are predicted to have eight players active at the position for the first time this season.

UPDATE: Running back Johnathan Franklin has been placed on injured reserve with linebacker Victor Aiyewa signed to take his place. To make Aiyewa active on Thursday, the Packers will have to make another player inactive, perhaps safety Jerron McMillian.

The biggest news for me is that Shields, Perry, Barclay and Jolly are all probable. (I pretty much assumed Rodgers wasn't going to play.)

Having those 4 guys back will definitely help out. If Barclay can be an upgrade over Newhouse that will be immediate help.

I am not going to expect much out of Perry, because the last time he tried to come back and play he hurt himself again. But if we can get the Perry that we had before he initially got hurt, that could change our defense with him and Mathews playing together.

As far as ILB's, I think Mathews could be the backup ILB, on some plays if needed.

Here's hoping we see Richardson get some more snaps at safety this week. I just looked up his combine scouting report - I didn't realize he was 6'3" and ran a 4.4. Could certainly use that size in doubling up Megatron.

Yeah, they definitely have to move in a different direction then 'the Doctor'.

At this point if they go with either Richardson or Banjo I would be happy. Maybe mix in the 2.

Speaking of Richardson. He has come back from a neck injury last year. He is now playing, and he plays at a position in which he would have a lot of impact that could potentially hurt the neck.
Does that say anything about Finley's injury, and possible chance of him returning to Green Bay?

I don't know the difference between Finley's and Richardson's, but either way it is a neck injury regardless...

I understand Finley will be a FA after the year to complicate matters but does Richardson returning improve Finley's chances of returning to Green Bay?

Richardson has fusion surgery on his C5 and C6 vertebrae in January 2013. Manning also was C5 and C6.

Finley, I believe, had surgery on the C3 and C4 - same as Collins.

I think the higher up the spine, the higher the risk.

Ok, I wasn't sure.

So Finley's is the same as Collins?

The less I see of Dr. Jennings, and McMillan and Wife, the better my day will be.

To clarify: I don't mean because they blew the coverage so badlly that they aren't even visable on the TV.

Stopped reading after...

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers (in BOLD), Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn

None of the rest matters.

Can't win without Rodgers.

Packers organization should just save the cost of airline fuel.
Stay in Green Bay.

Hey Aaron - thanks for ruining my Thanksgiving!
Didn't Jack Lambert play with a broken leg?
Didn't Ronnie Lott chop off the end of his finger to get back on the field?

I hate Favre.

But Favre would be playing.

SEASON.
OVER.
BEFORE.
THANKSGIVING.
FUCK.

This season is officially the Medical Report season.

Never thought II would spend so much time going right to the injury updates, or should I say weekly IR entries
