Packers 46-Man Gameday Roster Prediction vs. Panthers

Mike Neal, Frank Zombo and Vic So'oto have already been ruled out of the game against Carolina. Four more players will also be inactive on Sunday.

Here's our best guess at predicting Thursday's Week 2 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers.

The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...

Quarterbacks: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn

Running backs: Ryan Grant, James Starks, John Kuhn, Alex Green

Wide receivers: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb

Tight ends: Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor, D.J. Williams

Offensive line: Chad Clifton, T.J. Lang, Scott Wells, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga, Marshall Newhouse, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Derek Sherrod

Defensive line: B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Mike Neal, Jarius Wynn, C.J. Wilson, Howard Green

Outside linebackers: Clay Matthews, Erik Walden, Frank Zombo, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore, Vic So'oto

Inside linebackers: A.J. Hawk, Desmond Bishop, D.J. Smith, Robert Francois

Cornerbacks: Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Jarrett Bush, Pat Lee, Davon House

Safeties: Nick Collins, Morgan Burnett, Charlie Peprah, M.D. Jennings

Specialists: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Commentary:

  • Mike Neal, Frank Zombo and Vic So'oto have already been ruled out of Sunday's game.
  • The Packers will err on the side of caution with cornerback Tramon Williams who is listed as "questionable."
  • They'll do the same with running back Alex Green who's also questionable, though it's worth noting that with Green on the sidelines, that would leave the Packers with little depth at the position.
  • With Williams out, it's predicted that Davon House will be active. He would make his NFL debut after being inactive in Week 1 against the Saints.
  • The guess here is that the Packers will go with Ryan Taylor ahead of D.J. Williams at tight end. Taylor is the better special teams player.
  • Derrek Sherrod was inactive last week. It's no surprise he'll be inactive again.

It can't be good that Sherrod is benched again.

Its early still. I'll give him until mid-season.

Prediction: Barring an injury at the tackle position Sherrod will be inactive all year, and will be a starting tackle next year after Clifton retires. I'll put money on it that he is active for four games or fewer in 2011, and that he is an opening day starter for the 2013 season. Please do not obsess about Sherrod this year. There are so many other things to worry about if you are so inclined.

Sherrod not being active in his 2nd game (after no training camp) means absolutely nothing long term to his career. He's going to be just fine.

I just read Pete Dougherty's "keys to the Game"..."the Cam Newton-Dom Capers matchup will determine whether this will be a close game"...um...my money is on the guy who's been in the league 78 years coming off his most successful year ever. Seriously?? This is a "matchup"?? Dom will school him, shamelessly.

Carolina will not score a TD; maybe get shutout.

I think you're 100% on here, Brian. I'm not worried about the running back position. That's plenty of depth, especially when we will probably throw 1000 times anyway and could bring in an extra TE for pass pro if needed.

GOING ALL CAPS ON YER ASS'S...

CAM HAD A GOOD 1ST GAME... COULD NOT CARE LESS.

WE "EARNED" THE LOMBARDI...

THEY CHOSE FIRST IN THE DRAFT (FOR A REASON).

IF THIS ISN'T A 20+ POINT VICTORY IN WHICH #12 DOESN'T PLAY IN THE 4TH IT'S A TRAVESTY.

THEIR BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER (BEASON) IS OUT. I COULD GIVE 2 SHITS ABOUT SHOCKEY, OLSEN AND SMITH... THEY SHOULD FEEL BLESSED IF THEY SEE THE ENDZONE.

I REMEMBER LOSING TO CINCINNATI A COUPLE YEARS AGO WEEK 2... TAMPA BAY AS WELL... WHEN WE CLEARLY LOOKED PAST THE BOTH OF THEM.

IF WE ARE TO REPEAT, THE PANTHERS WILL GET BLOWN THE FUCK OUT OF THE WATER, AND THE MIGHTY GBP WILL LEAVE NO DOUBT.

'TIS MY B-DAY, I'M DAMN NEAR DRUNK, AND DAMN NEAR GETTING "HERBIE" WET... BUT EVERYTHING I'VE SAID HERE IS THE TRUTH. AND THE GBP WILL MAKE A POINT.

GBP 4 LIFE

I agree with Brian's active 46. Sherrod will be fine. He will not be active unless someone is hurt this year. No worries. Sherrod will be a stud for years to come.
