Packers 46-Man Gameday Roster Prediction vs. Chargers

Chad Clifton and Mike Neal have already been ruled out for Sunday's game. By rule, at least five more players must join them as inactive. We have the prediction.

Here's our best guess at predicting the Packers gameday roster for Week 9 against the San Diego Chargers.

The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...

Quarterbacks: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn

Running backs: Ryan Grant, James Starks, John Kuhn, Brandon Saine

Wide receivers: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb

Tight ends: Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor, D.J. Williams

Offensive line: Chad Clifton, T.J. Lang, Scott Wells, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga, Marshall Newhouse, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Derek Sherrod, Ray Dominguez

Defensive line: B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Mike Neal, Jarius Wynn, C.J. Wilson, Howard Green

Outside linebackers: Clay Matthews, Erik Walden, Frank Zombo, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore, Vic So'oto

Inside linebackers: A.J. Hawk, Desmond Bishop, D.J. Smith, Robert Francois

Cornerbacks: Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Jarrett Bush, Pat Lee, Davon House

Safeties: Morgan Burnett, Charlie Peprah, M.D. Jennings

Specialists: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Commentary:

  • Chad Clifton and Mike Neal have already been ruled out for the game.
  • The toughest decision came down to Vic So'oto. Head coach Mike McCarthy made the head-scratching comment that he had to play on special teams if he was going to be active. They seem to like Lattimore better on special teams, so I give him the nod.
  • They were making the comment earlier in the week that newly signed running back Brandon Saine was going to play on special teams, but I just don't see it happening. They didn't need Alex Green when their full complement of back was healthy, so I don't think they need Saine on Sunday either.
  • Robert Francois and Ray Dominguez were healthy scratches the last game against Minnesota, and they very likely will be again.

It's early, but the way the 2011 draft picks other than Cobb have performed hasn't exactly been stellar. Looks like Ted may have finally had a sub-par draft. The TEs are nice, and I think Green will be pretty good in the long run, but Sherrod has been unable to crack the starting lineup despite Clifton's injury and House was unable to get on the field despite the Shields concussion. Add that to the fact that 30% of the picks didn't even make the team, and you could certainly make a case that this is Ted's worst draft. Like I said though, this is all probably just way too early criticism.

maybe the lack of a pre season is really a big part of this? i still have hope that they will come good.

I think you can't actually judge a draft until about 2 or 3 years.

The fact that very few of these guys are key contributors comes down to a few things. A. TT went heavy on offensive players, adding to a unit that was mostly set. B. Injuries seem to have taken their toll. and C. like was said above, the lack of an off-season regimen didn't help guys.

Yeah way too early to Grade this draft. Sherrod was more of a project than a ready to roll player. I'll be interested if he can make his first full offseason count. Further, the 30% stat isn't telling, based on the fact it would be hard for a low rounder to make it cause TT got a lot of picks, and a SB team that lost so few players, with so many players coming back from IR. But hell, after the 2013 season you could be proved correct, or there could be another Desmond bishop in this draft.
