I could make a case for both Jordy and Jones in the "good" category. That being said, the drops are truly getting uglier and uglier this year. Killing me.
Jermichael Finley is driving me nuts.

Should put Nelson and Jones in the good. Jones made two of the best catches of his career for TD's. Maybe Hayward in the good too. And the o-line. You need a second good grouping this week.

Hopefully the Perry and Shields injuries aren't too bad. Perry seemed to be in good spirits on the sideline and Shields looked like an awkward leg whip.
Smith's did not look good at all...

Wasn't it the Texans that were complaining about a cheap shot, that ended up being a very similar injury to Brian Cushing? And the very next game they go out and do it to another team?

AJ Hawk deserve to be in the good category? I wasn't watching him too much, but 10 tackles and a sack sure looks like a good stat line.

Hawk should be in the good category for the year. He has been very good all year...

I'll own it. I was all for trading Hawk for Marshawn Lynch when people were buzzing about it. Given what Lynch has done the last few years, I'll stand with that one - it could have been a good trade.
I also was fine with the idea of trading Jones this off-season. Jones is having the best year of his career, no doubt about it. A couple of his catches last night were bouncing around like pinballs (maybe why he didn't make the good?) but he held his concentration and pulled them in. There have also been a couple of games this year where he has disappeared.
Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with how he is playing. I'm glad his drops issues are fading. I love Jones taking control of his destiny. But are you ready to hand him a 5 year contract at $5-6 million a year, or do you want to wait and see a bit? I'd like to wait and see.
Don't get too high, or too low.

One other thing about Jones' performance last night. As good as some of the catches looked last night, Jones was the only Packers receiver who caught less than 50% of the balls thrown to him last night. I get that rec/targets is not the same as drops, but it is not nothing either.

What did you do with the PI? Counted as a drop? There was also one where Rodgers clearly just threw the ball to avoid a sack, and it so happened that Jones was in the vincinity.

Agree, Hawk has been on fire this season. Don't know if it was losing a few pounds or cutting his hair, but whatever, I like it!

There was a play where the TE ran a shallow cross, right by Hawk, and was wide open, but I don't know if it was Hawk's responsability or if Woodson was supposed to play the flat.

I was thinking that one was on Hawk, but who knows. The ironic part was Collinsworth was just rambling on about Hawk's "side-line to side-line" speed. His blitz up the middle was perfect though. Looked like he did in college. He was such a force at that level. I'd love to see him get cut loose like that a little bit every week.

I think he didn't realize that Schaub had the ball! He was pulling up, thinking he had missed a handoff and didn't want to get penalized.

I don't know for sure on that play where the Tightend ran across the middle free and wide open. Last night Collinsworth said it was on Hawk, but I heard this morning it was supposed to be Brad Jones on that coverage? So that one i'm not sure about either.
Hawk has played his best football since his rookie year. He is not great in coverage, but not alot of LB's can cover Tightends either.
I was always one that said that you can't make trades based on positions of strengths because they can become a position of weakness in a heartbeat. I am glad they didn't trade Jones or Hawk. Imagine what the ILB would be without Hawk right now.

Well it is an impossible debate because if Hawk had been traded TT would have used another draft pick or two at ILB. So maybe instead of Alex Green in the 3rd round you get X. You just don't know. What I do know is that Marshall Lynch has played really well the last couple of years, and #12 really went to bat for him. Heck, the truth is we could have gotten Lynch and kept Hawk. How sweet would that have been?

mike mccarthy called an EXCELLENT game today. it was nice to see that we have another good RB in alex green although i'm a little worried that we only have 2 healthy running backs (and i'm not really sure that starks is at 100%). it's amazing what this team is capable of when there's a little balance in the play calling

They just finished a stupid-good 21-2 stretch before this season, and without horrendous officiating, would be 5-1 in the current campaign. That's not fair. This team has looked ugly in its losses. Fans know the potential of this team. We also have seen its self-destructive dark side over the last 4 years. The officiating has been atrocious, yes, but this team made enough mistakes in its losses to legitimize fan concerns. Tonight showed us that fans were right to expect this level of play from this team. It also validates our concerns when we weren't seeing them play to their ability.

Making decisions based on visual evidence is a little bit different than playing a highly athletic, contact sport at the highest level, but I understand what you're saying. My point is not that the refs should be perfect. Just that if they HAD been, this imperfect football team would be 5-1.

The only difference between this team today, and the past few weeks is the defense.
It gave the offense the ball for most of the game which wore down Houston's D, and allowed the blowout.

Wade Phillips is a hell of a coordinator, I really like him. But he stayed to his core philosophy of cover 0 much of the game as he has through 5 games this season. Phillips just reminded the rest of the league why you don't play single coverage with no safeties over the top against Aaron Rodgers.
I was shocked to see Phillips stay in that shell almost all game. What the hell? Great win by the Packers, but every other team is going to look at that Texans tape and never give Rodgers a look that plays right into he and McCarthy's strength.
All 2 deep and cover 2 for the rest of the season boys, still want to see them apply a full game-plan against it.
Good win.

I can't speak for the rest of the game, but on Jordy's 21 yd TD, HOU had two safeties deep. On his 41 yd td, they had a single high safety who was late getting over.

Phillips had them in Cover-0 or Cover-1 almost all game, Matt Bowen posted the same observation over at NFP. I was really, really surprised.

You would be correct. Nelson's 2nd touchdown came against a 2 high shell...although it looked more like quarters coverage post snap. I've sent Aaron a write up with diagrams about that very exact play and why the Packers were able to beat the 2 high shell. Maybe he'll put it up on the site.

2 question for you if you have time to answer, POC:
1) Are you surprised Wade Phillips went with that defense against the Packers.
2) Did this game plan by McCarthy and Rodgers do anything to really answer the question if they can adjust to 2-deep, man coverage for an entire game ala Seattle, San Francisco, etc.?

I agree CSS. Phillips did not run much 2 high split field coverage at all. He stayed tried and true to his philosophy and didn't adjust much. I will say, however, McCarthy ran enough Cover 2 beater concepts that if had switched to more of a 2 high look we would have had an answer so that is encouraging to me. But you are right...he has to stick with it. We will see plenty of Cover 2 against St. Louis.

Great to see the young defenders sell out on every play, what a great run stopping scheme by Capers and the offense returned to normal. Hopefully Perry won't miss much time, Walden had no tackles or assists, lets get Zombo off the PUP and on the field. Young DB's are holding their own and House hasn't played yet, great position to be in.

Jones,Nelson,Cobb AND Hayward definitely in the good. Nice to see a CB play the ball for a change. He gives us some depth and if Shield is hurt...
3-3 playing with intensity is far better than 2-3 and playing passive.
