Thought maybe Jeff Triplette would have had a chance to build on his dynasty in the "Ugly" category!
Absolutely. Major oversight there Brian!
JT deserves his own category. You know going into it that he's going to be terrible, yet he still manages to surprise us with just how terrible he is every time. That's impressive.
As great as Masthay has been this year, he had a terrible game. Special teams in general did not play well.
Agreed, Masthay laid an egg this week with the punt game. 3 punts for only 90 yards, long of 35 which was the only one inside the 20. That shank in the 3Q was awful.
He wasn't great, but he had a perfect punt that landed at the 1. Which was called back due to Quarless being downfield. Not Masthay's fault. Perfect punt. That keeps him off the bad list.
Remember, the number of injuries affects special teams play a lot. Granted, Masthay had a few clinkers but consider the whole picture.
Maybe it's because we've become so desensitized or because it's just assumed, but I think Aaron Rodgers deserved the top billing of all the goods. He overcame massive obstacles, made an UDFA into a star, constantly avoided pressure, scrambled when necessary, and in general was the core of this team.
Thought about it Richie. It's not that I take him for granted, just think the guys listed deserved recognition. Pretty sure Rodgers' greatness is well-covered. ;)
I thought he sort of made it over the hump this week.
He's been in sort of a mini-slump of late.
Experiencing another 3rd quarter lull.
Maybe, but they came as close to showing up for the full 60 as I've seen this year.
Yeah, good point.
I just thought they really coulda put the game away with a TD in the 3rd.
But atleast it wasnt a 3 and out on their opening drive in the 3rd.
UGLY....Myles White hands of stone.
Before you demand Myles head on a plate, just remember the conditions during the game. It was really wet on the field. Guys were falling down left and right. I'm not sure why Jordy was not in there for that play. That's a play you want a veteran to handle. Someone who has been in that situation before, hell, someone who has played an NFL game before. Myles made a mistake, he knows it. He will bounce back.
Good point. Remember that more seasoned and more talented receivers (like Gordon) had quite a few drops too!
yeah, and had Jordy been out there, caught the ball and one of the browns ran into him and he'd be injured everybody would be screaming now why he was out there... Fact of the matter is, catch the friggin ball, next man up, if you can't do it I'm sure the Packers will find someone who can.
PackerPete, since when did coaches bench players for risk of injury? Browns were still in the game at that point. It's a crucial play. You don't play scared for fear of injury.
Cobb on kickoff returns and punt returns. Tramon Williams some years ago removed from punt returns.
Two different scenarios. Kickoffs, you're hoping for good field position or a less likely td return. Players are also running full speed in both directions. Most teams have done away with star players fielding kickoffs and punts bc they have realized they simply need an athlete back there. On side kick means the game is close and it's do or die for the team kicking. They're only running 10+ yards. I would want my sure handed receiver in there.
The good......having to decide if BJones is as good as Mr. Lattimore. 57 is a force....IF and I definitely have to emphasize the if..this team is ever healthy how on earth will we ever be stopped on either side of the ball?
I agree with you on Lattimore. I wonder if when Jones comes back that Capers might find ways of using all 3 Jones, Hawk and Lattimore. They way Hawk and Lattimore are playing you can't take them off the field.
I wonder if they will bring back the big okie again.
I think either Jones or Lattimore will play OLB. Both played at that position in the past. Both are better than Mulumba or Palmer at this point, and especially with Perry and Clay both out I think this might be a good option. Personally I'd play Jone OLB and Lattimore ILB.
That ain't happening. Though Mulumba and Palmer didn't get a ton of pressure yesterday, they played very well against the run and played well overall.
Good call on Lattimore. Had him in the Good but wanted to recognize House.
Speaking of Lattimore...did the announcer seriously confuse House n Shieilds? I mean yeah they both rock a 7 on their jerseys ...but that's pretty much it haha. House definitely did ball though.
He also called our Secondary coach Darren Horton, so.....yeah.
House is 31, I don't see a 7 in there do you?
"Was there a niner in there?"
The ugly: The Browns taking a timeout with 24 seconds left when 3 scores down - even MM had a bewildered look on his face.
Couldn't agree more. That the kind of old-school macho crap that will eventually end up getting somebody hurt on a totally meaningless play.
Wasn't that the second time it's happened this year? Didn't Detroit do something similar? Couldn't figure out why unless they didn't want the Packers to have the honor of running the clock out.
yes. the Lions took a time out and then kneeled down on their last play - but that is because their coach is a total you know what. the Browns one really surprised me. There was no point. One score down I understand. But 3 scores just to tie with 24 secs left - come on man.
Weird how all the trolls disappear when the Packers are in 1st place. Now can we PLEASE all agree to ignore then when they return after the next Packer loss?
Tinkerin' Ted! Cheapskate! House sucks! Rebuilding year! 4-12! Perry is a bust! Injury-prone! 49ers! Fire the strength and conditioning coaches! Neal is a bust! O-line is garbage! Worst draft ever! Missin' Crosby! No running game!
That about cover it?
you forgot, Fire Thompson, Fire McCarthy, and trade for some real players.
Oh yeah, then there is the draft haters. Bakhtiari is to small, Lacy is to big, Franklin is to small, Hyde is to slow...
Those guys left this site long ago. The cows came home so to speak. Im sure the next loss will be hung on Tinkerin Ted's inability to trade for Kenny Britt or some other dumb crap like that. Never fails.
Yes! Excellent suggestion. Mike McCarthy is on my good list for sticking with the running game, even against the 5th ranked run defense. It's tough to change your stripes, but the dude has done it.
You missed something derogatory about Dom Capers.
According to Cow42, the Pack were supposed to go 0-4. Beyond happy not to see that idiot's BS.
Cow demanded players that could help the Packers now...lol even Barrington showed up.
I love cow42. I don't think we should be rid of him. He's entertaining as hell. Just look at the way he makes all of us here on this website buckle up and gather our spirit. If we wipe all those assholes off the site, this blog could would get a little less thoughtful.
Ugly: Brandon Weeden.
Why was Stoneburner in the bad? Dont remember even hearing his name during the game. I guess I missed something.
GBinSTL, he gave the Browns a first down by running into the punter.
I think he'll be fine.
Deserves to be in the "bad" for that.
It was also a bad call in general as we would have had the ball around the 50 with a 14-0 lead. Didn't understand the need for an aggressive call on that front.
Agreed. Slocum at his finest! no need for that call up 14 at home in the 2nd quarter. Over thinking, the weakness of the Mashed Potato Mike regime. But hey, one bad play call is only one, ill take one bad play call and the Win!
I can't argue with any of these. Quarless is at put up or shut up time now. He will be the man for at least a while. He's far enough away from the injuries. He's got to pull a Boykin next week.
I'm curious to see how much PT Bostick gets, and I am intrigued by his pass-catching abilities.
I saw Bostick lining up at HB for a few plays. Didn't see him being targeted as a receiver. This may change now. With all the rave about him I'm curious to see what he can do as a receiving TE.
agree about quarless. he was being called a "poor man's jermichael finley" a few years ago. time for him to step it up now!
Agree with all these. Lattimore needs a little shout out. Boy, he's a playmaker no doubt. He actually looks and plays exactly like a healthy Desmond Bishop prior to his injury. Just a sure tackler but he's better in coverage. He's really impressing me these last two weeks.
Don Barclay better watch out with Derrick Sherrod practicing. I can easily see Sherrod taking his spot in a few weeks. If he's better they won't hesitate. The Packers don't fool around I tell you what!!
Noooooo don't bench the Mountaineer!
lol.. Hey, I like Barclay too but he's really killing us in pass protection. Finley got 20 taken away on his holding call. I have an inkling if healthy that Sherrod just might be an upgrade over Barclay. I can see them slowly weening in Sherrod with Barclay in a few weeks if Sherrod continues to progress. Again, just an inkling.
the holding call was bogus. overall Barclay plays better than Bakhtiari. I think Sherrod will make the OT situation much better, but you may be surprised as to who he will replace.
So I take it you think if anything Sherrod will overtake Bahktiari at the left tackle position. That's fair but if that's the case I still think Bakhtiari would then play right tackle over Barclay.
Derek Sherrod was a first round pick. He's Ted's guy. Ted ALWAYS plays his guys. If Sherrod is healthy he's going to be playing and taking someone's starting job at some point in the future.
To me I see him taking over for Barclay. Barcley to me is the weakest link but that's not a knock on him. He's just weak in terms of pass protection. The question will be is Sherrod better in pass and run blocking than Barclay. If he is he will be in there sometime this season.
The Packers won't be making any OL changes this year unless an injury forces them to. OL takes continuity among the 5 of them. You don't mess w/ the continuity when things are going well. Would like better play from both Barclay and Bahktiari, but its not worth messing w/ the chemistry. And Sherrod is coming off 2 years of football inactivity. I doubt Sherrod will be ready to walk on a football field w/in a couple months after finally practicing. Get Sherrod practice reps to get him into football again, but don't mess w/ the OL's continuity when things are going well w/ the run game and Rodgers is protected reasonably well. Wait till the offseason, then reinsert Bulaga and Sherrod into the lineup.
Ted doesn't determine the starters, that is solely in McCarthy's job delineation.
Lattimore is a lot faster then Bishop.
Lattimore might become the Packers best coverage LB they have. He is fast enough to stay with a lot of RB's and TE's that the other LB's can't. Need to see him play more, but I really think he might be their starter moving forward.
I agree with you 100%. Boy, suddenly the Packers inside linebacking corp is loaded and that mainly has to do with the play of A.J. Hawk. What really makes you shake your head about Hawk is if this is the case and it appears to be. Why didn't this guy shed the few lbs years earlier. 8 years he has looked average and this season he's a little lighter and he's all over the effin field like we all saw him play in college. I guess better late than never.
I hate to say it... but doesn't anyone wonder about offseason PEDs? He doesn't seem the sort and I give him the benefit of the doubt because he does seem like such a great guy, but... I don't trust anyone completely anymore.
He's just significantly past the age where people can make this kind of jump.
He's fast. So fast that he could deliver for Jimmy Johns.
And goodness people, if there is anything to the idea of chemistry on offense, let's not pencil Sherrod in just yet.
Exactly... Chemistry and continuity on the OL are very important. Sherrod will be inactive this year, but he needs to start getting some practice, which he can't do on IR. Sherrod should take the rest of this year to knock the rust off and come in next offseason ready to compete for a starting job. The OL continuity is too important to mess w/ right now.
Sherrod hasn't played in 2 years. Give him some time before proclaiming him a starter.
Lets just be happy he is practicing again.
Lattimore - easily one of the more pleasant surprises this year. Always hustling towards the ball, chasing plays from behind. Guess they knew what they were doing.
He's in the RFA class next year, so he's in the pool of FA's that we might want to extend.
The only thing separating the Browns from Packers yesterday was Rodgers or that game is a toss up, especially with the penalties and special teams
i don't know what game you saw but i didn't see the same game then. it may have been a closer game but never a toss-up.
The Browns' O-line could not keep Weeden upright, even with the Packers' LB corps seriously depleted by injury. Advantage Pack. The Browns' D-secondary could not cover a Packers receiving group that featured one starter, one guy who rarely saw the field until this week, and one guy fresh off the practice squad. Advantage Pack. Running back. Advantage Pack.
Rodgers, Lacy, WR, and better talent on D. Otherwise I agree the OL and LB might be about the same since Matthews and Perry were out.
Sorry there was ALOT more different between them than Rodgers/Weeden.
Okay, I retract my statement. GO PACK!
HaHa have to laugh at some people thinking AR is or was having a sub par season, or even slump as I've read. Going into the game his qb rating was 101 with 10 td's and 4 picks. The Pack is a completely different team this year. Rodgers is the man that makes it go.The arrow is pointing way up.
Against Cincy in week 3 Rodgers had just 5.7 yards per attempt, and was rated by Rotoworld as a below-average QB for that game. Against Baltimore in week 6 he hit on just over 50% of his passes. In weeks 5 and 6 he was rated by Rotoworld as just above average. Really, weeks 3-6 were not the #12 we are all used to seeing. It is not that he hasn't produced gaudy numbers, it is that he is smacking himself in the helmet because he is missing throws that he knows he should make. My guess is he was fighting some small injury that we will probably never hear about.
Apparently his knee has been bothering him for awhile now.
