Marshal Lynch had 6 runs for 6 yards. The first time our D gave more than 3 yards per carry was late 3rd quarter, with the 3rd stringers. Only Fred Jackson had more than 3 yards per carry on their side (4.5). Why was our run D bad? IMO it's quite the opposite. We need to cover better the pass, because we're playing so well against the run. And even then, we're so good at the turnovers, that those compensate for the yards we give through the air.

And Brohm improved. I agree with you, it was ugly seeing him out there, but he improved late in the game, when he relied on the running game.

Well, Corey, what about punting? Kapinos didn't impress. Or "injuries to safeties." That would have worked as well.

The Packers should really think about drafting a punter with our third round selection next season. That's the only way we'll shore up this issue.

Kapinos's punts were:
Our 40 to the Bills 4
Our 2 to the Bills 35
Our 20 to the Bills 30
Our 4 to the Bills 45 (which rolled to the 40)
And... one more I missed somewhere.. I guess I was in the bathroom.

I'm happy with these, he's obviously not the best punter out there, but he did pretty serviceable there. 0 shanks.

Brian Brohm played well. I don't care if you all trash him he played well. He was 12 of 19 and had 1 not so good pick (he should not have thrown the pass but if nelson had turned his head earlier and jumped it would not have been picked). He was better than flynn when he was in there. I would even venture to say that brohm was the 2nd best QB on the filed last night.

I won't agree that Brian Brohm played well- but he did exactly what the Packers needed him to do if he is to have any chance of sticking around..
..He showed IMPROVEMENT.
Perhaps he's not a lost cause. Not to be cliche', but Brohm needs to build on his successes, and last night he took a small step towards building a foundation to build on.

Maybe after "The Bad" and "UGLY" you should include "relatively speaking".

Corey, remember when we drafted a guy named BJ Sander in the 2nd round? That didn't shore up the punting situation then.

Brohm was atrocious at times, I wouldn't care if he was cut at this point. I don't think he's ever going to develop into a serviceable backup for us, I'd take my chances with Flynn. That one play where he was flushed into the backfield and just stood there, clearly freaking out, was embarrassing.
--
I was impressed with Raji, can not wait to see what he can do with some more practice under his already big belt. Rodgers' pass to Driver on the run, lasered to the forward corner of the end zone, was incredible. The D as a whole was electric - just after the ball all night, pressure coming out the nose, pure turnover generation, was fun to watch. Unfortunately, like last week, it's against a less-than-stellar team, but the start of our schedule is soft so hopefully we can settle in during the regular season.
--
If you wanted a 'bad', how about that 4th and 1 play? Just vanilla and we got out-muscled on the line.

I'd be more specific on the Run Defense. I'd say the 2nd half defense period. The backups and new guys really didn't earn their pay last night. Very poor performances by by Jones, Malone, Montgomery and Porter. Porter had some hard hits but was out of position and got beat virtually every play.

Next week will be the first real test for the 1st defense. If can do well Friday, they can start to feel pretty good about the 34.

Barbre with a hold and a "hands to the face" (I'd that one was a bit questionable). Could be considered for the bad and Breno his backup showed no skill what so ever. Man, is he slow. Bad would be my classification for him

Drafting a punter guarantees nothing, remember Sander. I wish we'd of backed the brinks truck up to Lechler's house when we had the chance. I just see the poor punting biting us at bad times this year, especially against the bears who seem to always get the good bounces on ST.

For all the flack that brohm is getting he really didn't play that poorly. I'm not gonna sit here and say he looked good because he really didn't but I rewatched the game today and he didn't make one bad decision yesterday. He made quite a few bad throws but zero bad decisions which is about all you can expect from your third string quarterback.
If I had to pick a bad or ugly from yesterday's game I think I would have to go with the play of josh sitton. It was his missed block that lead to us not converting the 4 & 1 play and he wasn't very impressive at all on my second viewing of the game. If the coaching staff is going to decide on a starting oline based on the two preseason games it would appear to me that they should start wells at center and spitz at right guard. spitz has outplayed wells at center so far by a little bit so far IMO but not by much. spitz has outplayed sitton by a wide margin so far IMO and if they are going to put the best lineup out there I think that would have to be the way to go.

@Der6495:

First off, That was me (oppy), not Corey B, who said we need to draft a punter with our third round selection in order to shore up the punting situation.

Second, it was a sarcastic joke, as I was directly referencing the horrible decision by Sherman to select punter BJ Sanders in the 3rd round of the draft all those years ago.

It looks like Brian Brohm is the 2009 version of BYU to Miami's John Beck. Put a Pro Uniform on him and all of a sudden they forget how to play. I was hoping for more of Chad Henne....Bummer.

Brohm is Charlie Frye waiting to happen...which does happen, but the big issue is the size (or Lack thereof) his hands....same as Frye, Beck, and Jason Cambell. It seems to make a difference at this level. And who the heck knew he had Hyperhidrosis? Geeze, a QB with small very slippery hands? This is on the scouting department. Will his palms freeze on the tundra when it freezes over?

New Subject:

Who actually gets traded by the Pack instead of Cut? If GB cannot trade Wells and Wynn I will be slightly, though not entirely, surprised. They could trade both to Seattle right now...maybe for a punter from Canada?

HAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
