I once heard that horn blown when the Vikings were the beneficiary of too many men in the huddle penalty. I'm always listening for a more stupid use, but I'm not sure one exists.

Agree that Shields, HHCD, Burnett, and even Hayward (in the slot) deserve praise.

Randall had some issues and is a work in progress but shows promise.

Micah Hyde is slower than Kyle Rudolph. When Rudolph made A.J. Hawk look slower than molasses in Minny last year that was the end for A.J. Let's hope the same holds true for Hyde. He is terrible in coverage and has been for a couple of years now.

I haven't been very high on Hyde in coverage. He is overrated to me.

To me Hyde is the perfect coaches player. He is a guy that does it the way the coaches want. If he is supposed to be in a specific spot, he is there. Problem is he doesn't have the ability to do much more then that. The coaches trust him, but he isn't going to make a lot of plays. Similar to Hawk.

I would prefer to see Rollins being used over Hyde to be honest. Rollins I think is already better in coverage and I think he has the ability to make plays that Hyde can't.

Hyde is a good player, but not great.

I like Hyde as a backup safety, special teams guy and maybe a dime curl to flat defender. They need serviceable types for those roles, and he fits that bill.

Yes, backup safety, and special teams guy. I like that. I think he is good in those roles.

I would rather see Rollins play over Hyde in sub packages though.

Moving forward I would like to see Randall, Shields outside. Hayward, Rollins inside for their Dime package.

Is that why he underthrew Janis?

Rodgers was on the run sideways and still threw the ball 50 yds downfielf. That is an amazing throw. I'm not sure any other QB in the NFL could throw that pass further. Nothing wrong w/ his arm.

That's a "homer" statement. Try to be somewhat objective. At least half a dozen could make that throw with ease, and another half dozen could make it 90% of the time. You have blinders on when it comes to the Packers.

Really? Name them... very and I mean VERY few QB can make a 50 yd pass while running sideways to the throw across his body, much less w enough accuracy that the receiver can make a play on it.

" I prefer to believe that than he might be having an avg year."

Peter King had a stat a week or two ago that showed Rodgers' is pretty much right on his 2014 pace in terms of yards, TDs, INTs, completion %.

Nothing is coming as easily, but numbers-wise he's on par.

Under 50% for one game. He's at 61.7% on the season. Down from last years 65.6%, yea, but not way down. If bet it ticks up toward 65% by the end of the year. 5% on 500+ attempts? We're talking less than 25 completions.

Agree with above. Low completions happen sometimes for drops, missed communications, needing to throw the ball away because no one is open, or whatever. Happens to everyone including Rodgers and Brady. Brady was only 51% yesterday.

What's not right about Rodgers is that sometimes he looks like he is getting spooked by a rush that isn't there this season.

It's about time for a Lambeau Field Packer Blowout this Thursday night against the Gummy Bears. It would be great for the Packers to pad their stats. Rodgers needs a five TD, 400 yard game while the defense gets multiple picks and throw in another 6 sack's. Oh and how about a Janis TD kickoff return.

To be honest, I would rather have a long Janis TD pass. That would mean much more in the long run, than a KO return for a TD. It would help open up the Defense and make the Packers offense much more dangerous again.

Why not 8 TD passes to 8 different receivers, like e. g. Jones, Cobb, Adams, Janis, Rodgers, Perillo, Lacy, Starks! Also, it would be nice to have first 600+ yards game... And something about 56-12 (8 TD vs 4 FG!)... And D about 12 sacks and 4 INT?
We all can dream!
It will be another heavy battle. Bears are playing better than expected. They almoust won against Broncos and they arte playing way much better on trip than at home!

Good: Entire D minus Hyde
Bad: AP, Refs, Cobb
Ugly: Commentators wanting to tell us that the Vikings are a good team. They were 7-2 before the game but opponents this season are 33-47 (and they had the 3-7 Lions twice already). Hadn't really won against a team with a winning record, and still haven't. Their upcoming opponents in the 6 games have a combined 35-25 record... (Packers upcoming opponents have 28 - 32)

Not sure if the easier part of the schedule is a blessing or not. Playing easier opponents from here out isn't going to help the Packers get ready for the playoffs. It will just mask the issues that haven't yet been fixed.

The Packers play at Arizona in game that will likely determine playoff seeding. That's tough. Also, they have had trouble at Detroit and Minnesota may be playing for a playoff spot come 1/3/16. It just doesn't sound that easy to me.

That's right. so did the Denver and Carolina games.
But with the remaining schedules, the Packers will win at least 3 and make the playoffs, since the other contenders won't finish better than 10-6.

I disagree that the remaining games will be easier. The last 4 teams are no walks in the park at all! Dallas will be on a roll now that they have some impact players back from injuries. The rest are obviously tough games.

I'm not saying it is easy. What I am saying is that the Vikings are not that good a team since they really haven't won against any good team. Not even one team with a winning record. And they do have a brutal rest of their schedule. The Packers will win at least 3 of the remaining games. That will be enough to make the playoffs this year. Most other contenders already have 6 losses, and some will still play each other. Cowboys already have 7 losses. Vikings will not win more than 3 games, if at all. IMO they will win only 2 more.

That's my big question. What has happened to A Rodgers? A 47% completion rate? He is throwing the ball all over the yard. The elite Accuracy is gone. I noticed during the 6 game win streak as well. The pass to JJOnes was by far the best pass he has thrown in a long time. He is definately not dropping the ball in the bread basket like he used to. Also, the WRs cannot drop balls with Arodg being so inefficient. It is amazing he has only 3 INTs. this season.

IMO - Put three more completions on his stat line for the drops and it doesn't look all that bad. And give Minnesota credit - they know the formula - GB can't stretch the field anymore so they play press coverage. Other than Cobb and Jones, none of the receivers are trustworthy enough to know the sight adjustments.

November 23, 2015 at 08:27 am

The difference between a 47% completion rate and 67% on 34 attempts is about 7 completions. There are a number of contributing factors:

Rodgers is struggling with accuracy.

Rodgers and receivers are either miscommunicating pre-snap, or seem to be struggling to make the same read on the defense, and sometimes this results in the ball sailing to an empty spot on the field.

Receivers, Cobb especially, are dropping passes that should be routine catches.

I too am surprised that there have only been 3 INTs, given how many passes seem to get popped up or sail to the ground between defenders.

Good comments murphy. To me, the fact that Rodgers himself is also a part of the problem cannot really be seen from the raw completion stat, for reasons that you mentioned. Where it CAN be seen is in the few instances when Rodgers actually has a guy running wide open and he just flat misses him. In the past Rodgers was playing so well that this would only happen once in a blue moon, but now it seems to happen once or twice every game. I'm not saying the other factors are unimportant, just that I do agree with you that Rodgers himself has contributed to the problem with some poor throws.

Yeah, I agree completely.

A lot more good then bad in this game. My candidates for each:

Good.
Lacy, Adams, Janis, Daniels/Jones/Raji, Mathews, Shields, Burnett/Clinton-Dix, Crosby, Masthay.

Bad.
Starks, Cobb, R. Rodgers, Hyde

Ugly.
Wasted timeouts. Peterson fighting Packers defense after just about every time he was tackled.

Obviously a lot more good then bad in a convincing win on the road.
The only other bad part about this win, is we only get to enjoy it for a couple of days because they play the Bears Thursday night already. But if they can get 2 wins in the same week, there isn't much better then that.

If our defense can pressure Cutler like they pressured Teddy, we will be fine. Da Bears have been playing decent football of late and will be a tougher test that the vikings were. Still, I pick the Packers by at least 14 points as Eddie Lacy keeps the train rolling and our WRs hang onto passes Rodgers sends their way.

I honestly think we need to see more FB and less TE. Face it our TE's are below average, and we kept 2 FB's for a reason. Lets start using them.

Ripkowski showed he can block and catch. Kuhn we know can block and catch. Why not start using these guys more and Rodgers less?

I would like to start seeing more 2 RB's no TE or 4 WR no TE sets. The 4th WR is still better then Rodgers as a pass catcher, and I think our FB's are better blockers then Rodgers. If they are better, why not use them? Right now I think Rodgers is the weakest link on the offense. Still play him, just don't play him as much as they have.

Nate Palmer played very good game. And the reason why fans are not coaches is because they like players and see only his good side, or what he is doing good. I tend to believe more in player evaluation to Mike McCarthy and other coaches than to you and lot of "experts" here...
Also, Mycah Hyde was playing hurt (he was questionable for this game) and during that TD play he aggravated injury. Fans should not be like players to have short memory. We should respect players for his previous contribution too.
Ugly: Lot of Packers fans

The real question is how is Nate Palmer and Jake Ryan our only options at ILB? Bring in some help, I realize an injury changed the plan but come on man.

Regarding Daniels, management seems disinclined to extend a guy mid-season. If he blows out a knee, breaks a leg, dislocates a hip, has a career ending injury (neck), what have they got? Cap dollars are precious.

At least if they extend a player preseason, then presumably they get an immediate return on their investment, preseason injuries notwithstanding.

And Daniels himself is the other side of the equation. Dude's earned his payday, and who can blame him? Blue chip DT's are at a premium, and both sides know it.

Mason Crosby MVP, no question. None of those field goals were easy and he crushed them all and kept us in this one until the offense could pick it up. Very impressive!

Jeff Janis put the offense in immediate scoring position twice. The PI was the turning point of the game. It occurred on a 3rd and 15. If he doesn't make the adjustment to come back for the ball the Packers are punting. The passing offense had done very little at that point and became bogged down once again in scoring position. 12 or 16 to 6 at half was pretty important for this offense.

'The PI was the turning point of the game'

I agree, but I also think his long KR was a play that impacted the game greatly and could be considered a turning point in the game.
Vikings just go down and score a TD to go up 6-3. They had the momentum right then. Then Janis returns the kick 70 yards. The offense did nothing and Crosby kicks a FG. Yes that return didn't really give them momentum, but by him having that huge return it put them into FG range and instead of a 3 and out and punting (likely giving Minnesota good field position), it tied the game and they kicked off to the Vikings.

I thought that was one of the biggest plays in the game.

Totally agree. We needed to score after TD. Changed momentum back.

And at the very least, it tied the game and changed the field position. With Masthay who knows what his punt would have been like. Vikings could have had the ball near mid field. After the field goal I think they started at their 20 if I remember right.

That is a big difference, especially after the Vikings just had momentum.

The PI on Janis was HUGE. It allowed the Packers to score immediately before half and IIRC score coming out of halftime. That gave them a big boost in momentum and allowed the to really put the game away for the most part.

Way beyond time the coaches understand one principle of winning coaches: SPEED KILLS. Janis has it and its been sitting on the bench. Why? Can't play just the favorites, we need speed.

Depends on position. But WR absolutely need speed. Raiders just wanted everyone to have speed. There is a difference.

That was a HUGE play. Probably be the biggest play in the game.

I just was pointing out that the KR was quietly a big play in the game that could have been a momentum shifting type of play.

I can see the KR as the turning point. It was a big play following a big play for Minnesota. Either way, both were important momentum swinging plays by a player deemed not ready.

To me it was 2 very big plays that Janis was involved on.

IMO, Janis needs to play more. When he plays big things happen. On offense I'm not saying he needs to play 50% of the snaps, but can't he play 10%?
Moving forward I hope they use him as a KR. At least until Montgomery is fully healed and ready to go.

He's raw and doesn't adjust routes very well. Just my guess. However, he has some physical tools you just can't teach, namely speed. The offense doesn't have the luxury of keeping him off the field though. Should he see 50 snaps? No....but he needs to see more than what he has seen. Real game time play can be a huge benefit to a young receiver. Rodgers and his trust issues are complete BS. Great QBs make receivers better. Besides, I've witnessed plenty of miscommunication between Rodgers, Jones and Cobb. The old college maxim "you can lose with sophomores just as easy as you can with seniors" can apply in this case. Janis, while a raw route runner, is the fastest receiver of the squad. Use what he has. Accentuate his positives. Use crossers and under routes vs. man to allow him to run away from defenders. Limit his negatives. Reduce his route tree. Stay away from digs and double moves. This is adjusting. This is the essence of coaching. Interesting that the two biggest momentum swinging plays came from a guy who people say isn't ready for prime time. Not from Cobb. Not from Rodgers. He's earned an increased role because of game performance.

Completely agree.

I have been saying something similar for a while. Not saying he has to be out there every play of the game, but they need to find ways to get him on the field.

This part I absolutely love. 'Janis, while a raw route runner, is the fastest receiver of the squad. Use what he has. Accentuate his positives. '

That is what my biggest complaint has been about the coaches this season. They have not been able to 'Accentuate the positives' of the players on their roster.

They started doing that with Montgomery until he got hurt. They started using him in ways that he is great at. So why can't they do that with Janis?

I agree with most everyone's Good's and Bad's but to emphasize the Ugly's, Bakhtiari has taken a huge step back this season and Tretter is soft up the middle. I'd like to see more of Josh Walker. Have to find out if he's a player. Also, have to cut Hyde some slack if he's playing hurt. The guy's been great in the return game but his instincts as a DB are lacking, letting players get behind him. More Rollins is in the cards over the next 2 games while Hyde recovers on the inactive list.

Walker is not a C. And I thought Tretter played better than Linsley the last few games. In fact, the whole OL played better with Linsley out.

I've not heard anyone saying anything but positives about Tretter's performance. You can't just throw a body in at center. Guard, yes, not center.

Tretter's natural position is C. He lost the starting job to Linsley but showed he is a solid, capable player with his play in this win.

Kuhn deserves a good. He was an absolute beast as a lead blocker. He didn't seem to have any missed lead blocks. He showed his value today. And I'm curious as to what y'all think about Brett Goode? I'm a former college long snapper so I happen to notice the snaps lol. They have been rough lately. I think that could bite us sooner than later. Hopefully he gets it together.

I don't know about Goode. All I know is for years we've barely had bad snaps. Now I don't know the intricacies of long snapping and can't tell whether his snapping is good or bad, but I am not sure we've had any missed FGs or extra points because of a bad snap. Compared to many other NFL long snappers, I think he is doing well.

First, I eat crow. I had the Vikes trounching the pack due to lack of play the past three weeks. Got that sucker wrong, but then you should see my stock picks, lets not even go down that road.

1. Road Datone like a broken mule for three years, had his best game as a packer ever. We need that to continue, congrats Datone, eat the bears.
2. Gee someone on the staff finally said ' ya know we have this 6'3 receiver with speed, maybe we should try him in jordy's role. Thank you Mr Janis for showing your stuff. Good job.
3. Cobb. Either his mind ain't in the game or we elevated him to a level he doesn't belong, but a game this important and he didn't show. I have no answer.

Last looking forward to Bret Favre night. Hope they spend time covering it more than commercials. What a great night. Go Bret Go.

I really think Raji is the linchpin of the DL. When he is healthy and active, we have a run defense, and with his push up the middle, we have a pass rush suddenly. I also believe that when he forcefully occupies 2 blockers, our DEs and OLBs get more 1 on 1s. I do not think good play from Raji and defensive success is a coincidence.

I think we need to focus on how good Clay Matthews was at stopping Peterson. Our defense really stepped it up this week and puts us in a great position. Pat Kirwan and The Real Football Network briefly talk about our win and how Matthews was a big part of it.: https://realfootballnetwork.com/2015/11/24/11-24-15-1-game-silver-lining...
