Good - the Packers D. Playing with some attitude this year. Jolly, Daniels, Hyde and Lattimore all were sticking their noses in there. Even AJ looks like a new man. I actually expect the opponent to have a limited running game this year.

Lou's picture

Agreed, for the defense to perform on the road against an elite team like the Raven's with the enthusiasm and hustle using their young defenders in their first expanded roles was contagious for the vets like Hawk and bodes well for the future. You could single out just about anyone on defense for a solid performance except McMillon who is basically a "young Jared Bush" in regards to pass defense. The team did this without the best OLB in the NFL and the NFL's 2012 top rookie defensive back.

FITZCORE 1252'S EVO's picture

If he hasn't yet, he should go down to the courthouse and officially change his name to AJ FUCKING HAWK. Where's this pimp been?

chris's picture

(In my best Ricky Bobby voice) that's an awesome nickname

Jamie's picture

It can't be said enough, AJ Hawk was a monster today. Lead the team in tackles, 3 sacks and 5 TFLs! He's gotten a ton of shit over the years, and most of the time justifiably so, but I'm all for getting to know whoever this dude wearing number 50 is.

Scott's picture

It went from F'n AJ Hawk to AJ F'n Hawk.

jmac34's picture

Boykin at least had one really good play but it was obvious that him and Rodgers were not used to each other. plus that third down drop was inexcusable.

Can't think of a more disappointing player then McMillian this year. guy just doesn't good in coverage.

FITZCORE 1252'S EVO's picture

I would also like to give Dom a shout out. I'm as rough on him as the next guy, but AJ FUCKING HAWK only gets 3 sacks off a sound scheme. Dom had that front 7 dialed in and ready to play today.

some guy's picture

seriously, Hawk has played his ass off this year. kudos.

Lattimore was also really good. surprisingly very solid.

Jamie's picture

I think the continued growth and emergence of Nick Perry on the right side can add a whole new dimension to our pass rush when Clay comes back when it comes to new subpackages. Capers will have the luxury of moving Clay around even more whether it's loading up the right side, using Clay through the middle, or using Clay as a spy against more mobile QBs.

Jamie's picture

Also, why the hell is John Kuhn still on the roster? The dude makes $2 million for absolutely zero reason. That punt block gaffe was unforgivable, especially considering it happened right next to our sideline and from a guy with as much experience as he has. I mean we aren't even using him as a fullback, instead electing to use Quarless and Taylor in power I looks.

steven's picture

Eddie lacy in the second round... smh he is a better running then trent richardson. Dude was a steal, also perry the bust who? i mean comeone guys you should never call a guy a bust after missing most of his rookie season.

IowaPackFan's picture

Adrian Peterson recently said that he believes Lacy is the best RB prospect of this past draft.

Dustin's picture

First off. Where did that aggressiveness come from on defense? Great to see the pack shut down the running game. Great goal line stand.

Micah Hyde was all over the place today. Glad to see him playing well. Aj hawk also had a great game.

What worries me and probably allot of people is the fact that when the defense can get stops the offense can't do anything with it. Can't win games when settling for field goals most of the time.

Overall nice victory

jim's picture

agree regarding hyde... i thought he had a fantastic game, as well as lattimore.

Joe's picture

Where is Micah Hyde on here? He had a very good game on defense and special teams. I would put him on there over Nelson, whose 1st drive drop stalled us..

On a side note: Did anyone else see Finley absolutely lay Suggs out on a block on that 3rd and 1 fail run to Franklin when he slipped? I wish they showed that on replay..

davyjones's picture

Absolutely...Hyde is going to be my next jersey.

FITZCORE 1252'S EVO's picture

Ballsy. I like Hyde, but ballsy. These jerseys now adays are a couple hundo... Fitzy has many hanging... Not quite ready to drop that coin for Hyde, yet... Here's hoping I am soon. I'm closer to Perry, or hell... Hayward. He is, and will be a stud... Again... Soon.

Options roool. 'MURKA! Thanks Obummer!

FITZCORE 1252'S EVO's picture

Oh. Yeah. My day off... Still going. Don't judge. Fitz drinky.

'Murka!

BUP-BUP

PackerBacker's picture

This is a WI blog dude, nobody's going to judge as long as you're not getting blasted on shit beer. Do it right and all you're going to get is jealousy.

Stroh's picture

You like spending a couple hundi on a backup CB? I think the Packers realized that Balt wasn't going to beat them w/ the pass, so they used Hyde who is a very good tackler the rest of the game. He was lucky to get on the field. House was excellent and had 3 passes defensed in the 1st qt. Hyde made a couple good tackles.

IowaPackFan's picture

Finley was possessed yesterday. That fourth quarter he just beasted. The look on his face was frightening at times.

Stroh's picture

Was that Suggs? I wasn't sure who it was but that was a monster of a block. Put him on his AZZ!

MarkinMadison's picture

OK. Daniels continues to impress me because he is a DL who is always pursing the ball.

Poor. I was against keeping Kuhn in the off-season. The majority here felt that his veteran knowledge and his pass protection ability made him worth keeping. The veteran went for the big play yesterday and it almost cost the Packers. 3rd and short would benefit from a fullback who could blast a hole. Maybe another guy like DD who got an extra year out of TT because he was a good guy and a fan favorite.

Mystery. What is up with #12? Part of my disagreement with Rob yesterday (unstated) is just that he is not himself this season. Who would have ever expected #12 to complete a lower percentage of his passes, and to have a lower rating, then Joe Flacco? And if it was just this game maybe you hang it on Boykin, but it's not. I haven't seen anything suggesting a broken digit etc. Taking a page from his pre-game interview in answering a question about Crosby, it looks like a confidence problem.

Bomdad's picture

How many times have we seen AR brining the team to the line with less than 10 secs on the play clock? Something was up. Maybe it was MM trying to call run plays, like Fonzy admitting he was wrong.

TommyG's picture

We were at the game and noticed how long it took us to break huddle. To their credit that stadium was crazy loud, but still it took way to long to get out of the huddle.

hayward4president's picture

Lacy is what this team needed. We have been kinda soft for a couple years now not only have we gotten nasty on d, but Eddie is an angry smashmouth runner on O. I love how he picked up an extra 4 or 5 on the long run with the stiff arm.

mark's picture

How has nobody mentioned DAVON HOUSE for the good?? Dude had a phenomenal game yesterday. Flacco went at him again and again, and House shut him down [insert Dikembe Mutombo finger wag].

But man oh man, from a 4th round LT (Bahktiari) who has stepped in admirably, to Mike Daniels, now one of our best D-lineman....House, Micah Hyde, Nick Perry, and oh-my-lord EDDIE LACY. We are just totally spoiled in Green Bay. The amount of talent this organization finds and coaches up is nothing short of incredible.

Riding the wave...Surf's up...Go Pack Go.

Stroh's picture

Kudos to Ted Thompson for assembling a Truly SB contending team. Last couple years they didn't have the physicality needed to win a SB. They certainly do this year!

Bringing back Jolly has inspired the run D to become dominant again. He is the driving force behind another top 5 run D. Drafting Lacy in the 2nd has helped completely changed the dynamics on offense. Not just to establish a running game, but again a change in the physicality of the team, along w/ the changes by McCarthy on the OL. This is a team built to win any kinda game. We can play fast and furious w/ Rodgers and the passing game, or play ground and pound smachmouth football w/ Lacy and the running game. We can stop the run again. ANd when Hayward gets back our pass D will be very good again.

Bibbon Hazel's picture

Word. Nice to see them come through in a tight close game where they are the clear cut better team instead of pissing it away. Expect more of the same!

Bomdad's picture

Glad to see some of the DL in the comments. They bottled up the Ravens run game. Ravens OL is terrible, but that should count against the big boys.

Nelson had multiple drops, so not 100% on board with him in the good

Stroh's picture

That 3rd and 2 early in the game only counts as one drop. That was his only one for the day.

Bomdad's picture

He was targeted 12 times and made 4 catches according to McGinn. Not a great game IMO.

redlights's picture

Don't you be arguing with Stroh.

VApackerfan's picture

Or provide your opinion on something.

Stroh's picture

Being targeted doesn't mean they were all drops. With Jones and Cobb out Jordy saw a lot of extra coverage. You did say he Dropped them, which isn't accurate. Some were good defensive plays, some where Rodgers missed him. Those aren't on the WR. Theres a difference in missed targets and drops.

C's picture

I'm genuinely shocked at how much this rookie class is contributing, especially on the road against the champs and short handed. Unprecedented stuff, mature beyond their years when being called upon to do entirely too much way too soon.

Tundraboy's picture

Dont mind eating crow on Hawk Other than the injuries everything elses seems to be turning our way. With Hayward back..... First game I have missed seeing but it was nice to check in on the phone at work and see Lacy having some yards and Pack ahead on the road. Low score but ahead!!! BTW noticed just about all of the comments are positive. Just wondering where are the usual negative outlook bloggers this week? And we all know the names.

mark's picture

Can't believe how little discussion there is around McCarthy's ballsy (I thought insane) call to decline the 10 yard penalty, giving the Ravens 4th and goal from inside the one, instead of 3rd and goal from the 11.

As we know, Harbaugh took the bait, went for it, and got stuffed. Packers ball. Crazy sequence and I was swearing at McCarthy's recklessness...until it worked out, of course. But had the Ravens scored there...???

denniseckersley's picture

Same exact scenario was set up in Week 1 against the other Harbaugh. But we took the penalty instead of declining it. They scored a TD on third and long.

denniseckersley's picture

I still don't know what decision I would make in the situation. I think against the Ravens, the only reason I agree with McCarthy is based on how incredible our run defense was yesterday. Otherwise I would take the 10 yards for sure.

Stroh's picture

After stuffing Rice on 3 straight carries inside the 5, I think McCarthy fully expected Harbaugh to take the FG. That Harbaugh went for it again on 4th down is stupid! The run D had dominated the ravens running game all day long.

LACheez's picture

I don't know enough about anything to determine if this is a good move, but when Hayward comes back, couldn't Hyde replace McMillian at safety? Or is he too small? Not an upgrade?

PackerBacker's picture

You'll get the same reaction as everyone else who asks a beat writer about this. They'll tell you that the Packers have shown zero interest into making him a safety.

Why, I don't know. YOu look at his strengths and they seem to play into the safety position perfectly (a little slow, but a good tackler and good in run support, good up near the line, etc.)

hayward4president's picture

I'm watching the game again....n damn these guys are having trouble blocking Perry I freakin love it! Oh....its time for the goal line stand gotta go...

hayward4president's picture

Are u kidding me? Morgan made or helped make all 4 of these tackles on the goal line.

denniseckersley's picture

Kuhn and Mcmillan deserve UGLYs in my opinion. I actually thought Jordy was kind of off yesterday (especially compared to recent weeks where he's been making ridiculous catches). I give most of the credit to the playcalling and rodgers' feint for the long touchdown. Nelson had a big drop early in the game, and maybe if he was able to break up the interception, I would have considered it a "good" day.

AJ Hawk is on the juice, right???

Stroh's picture

The credit for the long TD to Jordy goes squarely on Lacy! His running forced Balt to honor the play fake and allow Jordy to get behind the secondary. It was a great playcall by McCarthy, to hold that play till the Defenses are forced to play the running game 1st. Rodgers threw an accurate deep ball, no surprise there, that's his best trait. Lacy and McCarthy deserve the credit for that play working to perfection.

THEMichaelRose's picture

This team looks good. The division is ours. Problem now is....the NFC East is going to be the 4 seed. The Saints' division is too easy, they could easily be #1. That means the Packers need to get that 2 spot to avoid traveling to Seattle in the second round. Which would be a disaster.

packeraaron's picture

I actually like the Packers' chances in Seattle.

C's picture

Russell Wilson is making a terrible offensive line look mediocre.

THEMichaelRose's picture

I like the Packers chances vs. anyone, but just "in Seattle" would be really nice to avoid. A true homefield advantage

PackerBacker's picture

Agree, but it would be nice for them to have a bye week after 13 straight.

Michael from Winnipeg's picture

Ugly - Ravens converting on 4th and 21.
The Ugly icon with the hole in the TV was almost my TV when the Ravens converted that. Fortunately, cheeseheads are soft.

Evan's picture

Perry has a broken foot? WTF?

Point Packer's picture

I've never bought the John Kuhn folk hero status. Beyond his pass pro and role as an occasional safety valve, his play is forgettable. His mistake on that blocked punt was beyond stupid and it was incredibly ugly.

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I'm hoping this is his last year in the Green and Gold.

Point Packer's picture

Oh, and without re-watching the game, seems like Datone Jones got pushed around like a rag-doll yesterday. Only reason he was able to pick up that fumble and almost screw our field goal opportunity was due to the fact he got pushed five yards from the line of scrimmage.

SoTxPhil's picture

With Perry having a broken foot(painful for a long time, I know I had one about 5 yrs ago)I guess Palmer will be joining the LB crew. He seems to get to the QB pretty often when he has gotten to play.
Dom needs to keep blitzing Hawk rather than leaving him standing in space doing nothing or missing a tackle on the TE. Dom also needs to put the Packer's def in something beside that horrible Prevent def(prevent you from winning)with only 3 rushers and no blitzers. Especially, yesterday when GB was all over Flacco so fast he had to just dump it off quickly instead of having enough time to eat a sandwich before picking up 20+ yds. If the Packers do pickup a WR, I hope they go for Walker who is on someone's PS, but M. White is pretty fast on ours.

SoTxPhil's picture

They also need to keep M. Hyde in the game, he was everywhere yesterday making plays. Obviously, he has a football mind if not ideal size.

Tundraboy's picture

Perry Broken ????!!!! Foot
Cobb out 8 weeks !!!!! Did we piss off someone really really bad The football gods, Wow,
Well here we go. Moment of truth is here now there is no reason not to play everyone and see what we have. No turning a way from the run now either. So from that standpoint, I have a feeling good things can and will happen this year. Sure not going to be dull the rest of the way.
