Gary-Optimist view...Will be ready in year 3-4, just in time to go elsewhere or stay get overpaid like Nick Perry.

Wagner-Regression from Bulaga but eases health concerns at RT. Not sure that creates a benefit.

Rodgers-Unchanged...He'll do things good and bad. Much resides on offensive players and scheme improvements. Jumps of players need to be more than micro.

Sternberger-Progression/Benefit...How can it not be at this moment. He looked better than Graham while on injured list.

Sullivan-Regression...The jump must be substantial and putting too much on his plate may cause concerns and more.

Kirksey-Slight progression...Lateral move with Martinez while gaining and losing attributes of different ability. Injury history could secure it as a regression.

ESB-Makes or breaks the WR group.

Defense-Stop the run gashing.

Taryn: I agree with everything except Gary. The jury is still out on Gary, but I believe he may make a second year jump. He was converting from a down lineman to an OLB last year and that is usually a slow process. He has the athletic tools and with Fackrell gone, he will get the snaps needed to develop. It is on him, but I am optimistic he may prove his value in 2020.

Very much agree with your point on ESB. I am not a big Funchess fan and Lazard is an adequate #3/#4. ESB has the speed to be a deep threat and the route running to keep QB1 happy (be where you are supposed to be). Hopefully ESB delivers.

Yes, the jury is still out on Gary, but my thought was either he gets so good he prices himself out of GB or if he doesn't and GB finds itself stuck with having to over pay him, as with Perry. An extension to Perry that yielded no benefits but detriments on top of the nothing received from him during his rookie contract, less the fan praises of his very false positive play. Which is why he isn't even in the league anymore and since GB finally moved on.

I will happily settle for "he gets so good he prices himself out of GB". He hopefully gets to that stage about the time the contracts are up on the Smiths and the Packers have the where with all to compete for his services and maybe keep him in GB.

Heaven help us if he is another Perry. The Packers made two mistakes with that guy - they drafted him and then they re-signed him.

Taryn/others: this was a great topic gaving us viewers lots to munch on. Having said that, it's okay to be optimistic-shoot, i'm quite optimistic after MLF's first year @ 13-3 & 6-0 as with the NFC target now squarely on our backs, it'll be more of a challenge to emmulate that.
1) don't agree Gary will be another Perry....nope, he didn't have very good players (albeit FA's) ahead of him while aligning as #4 edge rusher. He NOW becomes first man up, so let's just see how he progresses. Loved the comment Kirksey better than Blake @ their best..."let us pray" and may we conclude, "amen"
2) bear with this, re: Sternberger. Dang, what may come to pass is watching him take JG's snaps and becoming noticably more impactful REMINDS me so much when CM3 took over @ ILB for Hawk..it wasn't exactly night & day, but everyone seemed to say, wow, look @ Clay go!! Wow. NO, NO! It was just how bad Hawk had regressed...sorry i watched it!
3) there's almost a tie between how exciting the battle for CB/slot position/Tramon or not will be -vs- who will contribute as WR's. Note, i didn't say who will be #2 WR. Keep in mind, last years experiment with a first year WR coach apparently didn't work out
4) GB did well in round 6 of the draft this year in selecting hopefully 2 of 3 OLinemen that can work into playing @ the NFL level. Remember too, this is coach Stenovich (did i get that right?) second year too, so there are "moving parts" to work out, but the competition is there. Hats off to Gutey for selecting Jenkins, all rookie in 2019!
5) although not a part of this pod, i think Pettine will be on a shortage leash this year and after not showing up to play in California 3 times and not being prepared in SF the first time, after a bye week, was telling. I'm sure glad Gutey hit on 3 of 4 FA's last year!!!!!!

Since the Packers have gone to a philosophy of drafting athletic talent regardless of past football performance there on the road to crap. Certainly, athletic ability and talent is valuable however, you have to be able to play the game. All of you who say you don’t like this comment please respond in January when Rashaan Gary has one sack 10 tackles it is a colossal bust for the entire year. Jordan love, he’s the ultimate representation of a cocky coaching staff that thinks they can make anything work. He’s a big armed guy from a smalltime program who leads the world in interceptions. Yeah right he’s not gonna throw it in the NFL?
