The question I have is “How many roster spots can be decided based on value to special teams?”
Many of the rookies have been good special teams players in college—do you keep a Leavitt over them, when you also are keeping a passle of other “ST stars?”

I think only 3 guys, PEO. The kicker, holder/punter, and snapper. Because they score points.

Everybody else has to play a position. If you dress 21 defenders, and about half of them are DBs, then let's say 10. You can safely hide a demon or two at the end of the bench, even when you're playing nickel, even after you get a guy hurt. But if injuries start adding up, as they sometimes do, then you're going to end up towards the end of the season with a special teams demon covering John Jefferson, or somebody like that.

Take Nixon, for example. He did a fantastic job last year as a return guy, even returning one for a TD . That's probably the last time we'll return a kick for a TD for the next couple of years, but that's another story. Anyway, fortunately he can play a position...otherwise, he's a real luxury.

If you've got Devin Hester, then you can make a space for him, but other than that, I think the guys you dress out have to be able to play a position well enough that you can trust them on the field.

Granted, I have not actually seen any of the practices. However, in terms of combines Bo Melton is far and away superior to to the last two WR's picked in our draft. First, he knows the system better and secondly he would be the fastest WR on the team as was pointed out in the article. Malik had a great combine only if you turn the list upside down. Wicks also is extraordinarily slow for a WR. Moreover he has a history of drops. Again based on potential alone you find a way to keep Bo. I do appreciate you bringing him up for consideration. On paper it looks like a no brainer.
