Over/Under...

...on how long it takes for the first story about Favre mulling a comeback and wanting to be released so he can go play for the Vikings is set at five weeks.

Adieu, Mr. Favre.

UPDATE: Bloody typical. From the ESPN article linked above:

While Favre did not directly broach the subject of the team simply releasing him so that he might have the option of signing with another team such as the Minnesota Vikings a source said that Cook informally discussed the option with the Jets. The Jets respectfully declined that option, the source said.

Five. Weeks.

How long you ask? It depends on whether his mother and brother still have access to text messaging.

Watching his final game and the way Farve made a quick exit out of the stadium not shaking hands with anyone spoke volumes that he was finished.

Some how, some way you have to think Farve is somehow going to end up with the Vikings this season....

I would not at all be surprised if he reverses field and then the Jets have to release him because it will kill their cap....then he's a FA and from there its pretty much a no brainer, he'll end up in MN....

PackOne - The Jets own them for the life of his final Packer contract which has two years remaining.

P1,

As I understand the rules the Jets maintain his rights for two years. If he unretires then the Jets must take some action. He would have to go back on their roster, be traded, or released outright. If it's the later you know what would happen.

Ahhh, but remember Ron, it's Over/Under on the first appearance of an ARTICLE - not Favre actually making any statement. ;)

Funny, last year I was definitely fearful of the possibility of seeing Favre in a Vikings uniform. Though it did seem to these mostly uneducated eyes that Favre was losing a step, I still didn't want to see him line up against the pack with those goofy horns on his helmet. Now? I'd actually love to see him playing for the Vikes against the Pack. "Mr. Favre? Meet Mr. Kampman BOOM!"

Wow. What a classy family.

"Favre admits that his family and friends were consumed with keeping him informed about how his numbers measured against those of Rogers and constantly urged him to throw more touchdown passes than his replacement. Favre admits to virtually no interest in that kind of intramural competition. But he was devout in doing whatever he could to ensure that the Jets accomplished more than the Packers."

I'll take the under as I am sure there will be a story about it. He'll give some interview about how hard it will be and you'll have three days of speculation about it. But, I think he is done. It didn't end well in NY. He had team members calling him out after the season. His post season press conference made me think he doubts if still can get it done. There is also a price to pay for pulling the same crap this past off-season. He might get the urge but I doubt he goes down that road again.

I think he's done this time. But I'm sure the speculation will continue. Hope he can go restore his legacy now. If he is done, it truly is the end of an era in football.

I'm not quite sure why the Jets rebuked Cook's suggestion that he be released outright? With the Jets cap situation and Favre's absolute collapse at the end of the season, I'm thinking the Jets are privately ecstatic that he's gone. Perhaps there's a gentleman's agreement between the Jets and the Packers?

keeley - Favre, his late season swoon notwithstanding, is an asset. The Jets spent what ended up being a 3rd round pick to acquire him. You don't just cut him loose. They own his rights and would want something for him if their hand was forced. (Which is still quite possible)

Sorry Aaron, I was under the assumption the an article had to be based on some substantive information. SPORTS MEDIA -- SUBSTANTIVE! Silly Me!

Because holding the rights to him has value. They would look pretty stupid giving up draft picks for his services and then cutting him the next off season.

And your likely correct, they likely DO have a gentlemens agreement with the Packers as well.

I really hope this is it for him; I can't take another season of posts. And Andrew in ATL, I promise that I will uphold my promise on staying out of these Favre discussions, unless it's just to post a "Thanks for the memories" type of thing. No more Favre debates for this guy.

Anyway, congrats on a great career Brett. It's time for you to put the foolishness aside and come on home.

Brett's brother hasn't been in the news lately, he'll be getting that "itch" to talk to a reporter sooner than later. I take the under...and it'll be Brett's buddy Peter King who breaks it.

I'll take the "over". BF has to make sure that he can skip all off-season prep before he makes his next move. (unretire).
Keep on eye on not only Minn. but also Tampa Bay.
Unfortunately, BF may only have Hattisburg HS left by this summer. I doubt any team will want to deal with this clown & his antics.

I'll take the over ... NYJ isn't GBP
Peter King won't get it - Mortenson will.

Favorite Favre moment? Helmet off, running around the SuperDome (gotta be).

Privately - I'm betting Favre wishes he could take back, this last year ... completely.

I just finished watching Farve`s first game against the Bengals on NFL Network. I think I have watched it 100 times but it was nice to watch it on HD.
I think that game in my opinion was the game that made it fun to be a Packer fan again.

Thanks Brett!

Aaron, Favre didn't file his retirement papers. The Packers placed him on the reserved/retired list which freed up a roster spot and salary cap space. But he never filed the papers and received his severance payment.
