As a Junior in 2014, Moreau started all 13 games. He had 53 tackles, 8 pass defenses, and 1 interception. He was named 2nd Team All-Pac 12, and was a highly regarded draft prospect entering 2015. He was granted a medical redshirt and returned for his Redshirt Senior season in 2016. Moreau started all 12 games and had 10 pass defenses, 2 interceptions, 32 tackles, and a forced fumble. He was once again named Honorable Mention All-Pac 12.

Analysis:

Man Coverage: 4.0/5.0  Moreau is incredibly physical at the line. He has a great ability to alter the receivers route and throw off timing in the passing game. He rarely allowed a receiver to cross his face and get inside on slants. Against USC he outmuscled the WR to the inside and then used his athleticism to intercept the ball and take it back for a touchdown. He has the speed to press receivers, and then turn and run with them. At times he can be too physical downfield, which will need to be corrected at the NFL level. On the trail technique Moreau needs to get his head around quicker to play the ball.

Zone Coverage: 3.6/5.0  Moreau largely played a soft coverage in zone. His speed and quickness showed once the receiver caught the ball, but will need better anticipation to make a play on the ball, rather than the ball carrier. He was a very sure tackler, and did not allow many yards after the catch. He has very little experience playing zone in college. UCLA really only played man or Cover 3.

Against the Run: 4.3/5.0   Moreau is very strong against the run for a CB. He showed the ability to engage the blocker, press them and hold his ground, and then shed the block when necessary. He has the strength to throw the blocker and looks to have the desire to hit people. On tape Moreau looks a bit like a Safety playing the run, and could be the rare young CB who can make an impact in the run game.

Speed/Quickness: 4.7/5.0  Moreau had fantastic measurables at the NFL Draft Combine. He will be able to run with speedy receivers, but has to learn to read the offense to use that speed correctly. Has a great ability to turn his speed into power against blockers, and has a fluidness that allows him to change directions quickly.

Impact Play Ability:2.8/5.0  Moreau only registered 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles during his collegiate career. He has the speed and strength to break passes up, but lacks the instincts to cause turnovers. Since he largely played man-to-man coverage in college, Moreau didn’t get a lot of opportunities to watch and read the Quarterback. With his speed and quickness, he could become more adept at creating turnovers in zone coverage.

Summary: Fabian Moreau is a physical, tough Cornerback with excellent measurables. In most drafts he would be an intriguing top half of the 1st round player, but because of the depth at the position in 2017, will likely fall to the end of the 1st or beginning to middle of the 2nd round. He will be able to play outside CB right away because he will be solid in the run game, and can press and cover NFL WRs. Moreau will need some time to learn the intricacies of zone defense, and need to learn to play without committing penalties, but has the ability to be a number one CB in the future.

Overall Grade: 3.88/5.0

If Drafted by the Packers:

Fabian Moreau would likely step right into a starting role with the Green Bay Packers. He would be the most athletic CB on the roster, and would add a level of physicality to a defense that is sorely in need of it. Moreau would allow Davon House, Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, and LaDarius Gunter to cover players who they match up better with, and allow Moreau to lock in on more athletic receivers. The Packers would have to be patient with him while he learned Dom Capers complex scheme, but he would provide an elite level athlete Green Bay sorely needs in their secondary. He could be a possibility in the 1st round, but likely won’t slide to the Packers in the 2nd round.

I will make one correction, after the East/West Shrine game...he was thought to be a second round pick. I think he will be a good starter for any NFL team.

Great player. Loved him back when many considered him a 4th rounder. In some ways it's a pity when he rises up boards so much, he might not even be there at #29.

At least when that happens it confirms what I thought of him way back when he was 'undiscovered'.

As a fan of a team that's always drafting late, I'm always a fan of players who make late pushes into the first round based on workout numbers. It means someone else who is probably a better PLAYER lasts longer.

All his injuries worry me. He just might be prone to them. Whats the risk/reward? A good value if he falls to second round.
