Nagler's Never Right: NFL 2014 Season Week Two Picks

After a brutal start to the season, Aaron attempts to bouce back with his Week Two picks.

Boy did I live up to the "Never Right" brand last week.

Here's hoping Week Two is a bit more kind...

Last Week: 7-9

Season: 7-9

Week Two Picks:

Steelers at Ravens

I love watching Steve Smith play football. He’s one of a precious few NFL players worth the price of admission.

Unfortunately, his team doesn’t get the win tonight. Steelers by a field goal.

Dolphins at Bills

Ryan Tannehill and E.J. Manuel both had decent showings in Week One. Both should be going against tougher defensive opponents in Week 2.

But Miami’s defense creates a pivotal turnover and the Dolphins start 2-0…just as we all predicted.

Jacksonville at Washington

RGIII and Washington's offense look ponderous when trying to pass the ball. They're fine when they keep it on the ground. They'll try to do that as much as possible against a Jaguars defense that fell apart against the Eagles. Jay Gruden gets his first win as a head coach.

Lions at Panthers

The Lions and Donkey Kong Suh come crashing back down to Earth in Carolina. That Panthers front seven is simply no joke.

The return of Cam Newton to the lineup gives the Panthers just enough on offense to start 2-0.

Cowboys at Titans

Jake Locker outplays Tony Romo and the Titans become one of those teams who we are all surprised to see sitting at 2-0 at the end of Sunday’s games.

Patriots at Vikings

The Patriots’ defensive front was exposed by Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. Vikings OC Norv Turner follows suit. The Vikings start 2-0, the Patriots fall to 0-2, and Boston is drunk for a month.

Saints at Browns

The Browns offense won’t take a half to get going this time – but neither will the Saints’. The Saints defense is the difference here. New Orleans gets its first win.

Falcons at Bengals

Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson called an excellent game last week against the Ravens. He makes it two in a row this Sunday. The Bengals get the win.

Cardinals at Giants

The Giants are a complete disaster on offense. Ben McAdoo is already feeling the heat in New York, not even two weeks in to the season. The Cardinals won’t make things any better. Even if Carson Palmer doesn’t play (he’s dealing with a shoulder injury) Arizona gets the win.

Seahawks at Chargers

If there’s a team that’s built to move the ball against the Seahawks, it’s the Chargers. San Diego loves to pound the football, keep possession and not try to do too much vertically. Unfortunately, their defense won’t keep up their end of the bargain. The Champs start 2-0.

Rams at Buccaneers

The Bucs will start much faster on offense this week. The Rams probably have to start their 3rd string quarterback. Bucs get Lovie his first W as head coach in Tampa.

Chiefs at Broncos

This one could very well be over by halftime. The Chiefs are simply dealing with too much of a talent drain, both from offseason moves and injuries. Broncos romp.

Jets at Packers

The Jets will try to do a lot of what the Seahawks did with their running game. Rex will stymie McCarthy and Rodgers for a while – but the Packers eventually pull away in the second half after getting a late turnover from Geno Smith. 31-17 Packers win.

Texans at Raiders

The game certainly did not look too big for Derek Carr. There will be a whole lot of growing pains along the way, including this Sunday when he’s running for his life from J.J. Watt. Texans start 2-0.

Bears at 49ers

Both Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall did not practice Thursday, along with a litany of other Bears. Even at full strength, the Bears don’t figure to be able to hang with the 49ers at the opening of Levis Stadium. 49ers get a big, nationally televised win.

Eagles at Colts

The narrative on Nick Foles seems to be that he had a bad first half and a good second half against the Jaguars. The tape says something else. Foles did not look good at all last week – and he won’t look much better Monday night. Andrew Luck and the Colts bounce back from their heartbreaker in Denver.

If Bills lose to the Fins, I really will be surprised to see both the Titans and the Bills at 2-0. Not sure how that works.

Also, I predict that the turnover from Geno Smith will be to one of our safeties. It is bound to happen sooner or later.

The Packers will hold a team to 17 or less points all year.

First home game of the season against a team that will not finish the season with a winning record. A team whose best chance to win will be a QB watching from the sidelines (Vick). Scares me that the Packer's run D needs to stop both Ivory & Johnson. Still, losing to an AFC team at home isn't likely to happen until Brady lands in GB later in the season. --- GB 27 --- Jets 19.

Does it even matter? The season ended a week ago.

I picked the Packers D up this week, I'm expecting a dominant performance out of that group. I'm benching cows 9ers for our Packers... this week.

That's ballsy - especially with all the injuries for the Bears right now. Neither Jeffrey nor Marshall practiced yesterday. Ditto for Garza and Slauson.

Lol, yeah. Well, that's how my lineup is set at this moment. Fighting the urge to swap them before Sunday however is going to be tough. Geeze, its just, if the D has any backbone (after the opener) I would think they could have a good day against the jets. We'll see.

Jets won't sniff 20. They will be doing well to score better than 14.

Well, I'd make a wager, but you've lost in the past, yet, here you are.

BS. You said you would never post here again a yr or two back. Shortly after, you came back. I don't mind you too much, I'm kind of indifferent to you, I actually used to stick up for you. But I now realize you are the genital herpes of CHTV... if we think you're gone, you'll be back.

This is a lie several times over.

You were right about the points, they did gift them that first TD, but you were right about that. Thankfully, i was right about who would win, and that's really all that matters.

It doesn't matter. the season is over after losing last week. The Packers did get a first down on their first series but still lost the game.

I think the Jets will score about 60 on this defense. Packers will be lucky to have the ball for more then 5 minutes in the whole game.

I have the Jets by 10. They have a running game and now a passing game and mobile QB. The defensive line is one of the best in the league. Its due to actually having number one picks on that line and acquiring some top talent VIA FREE AGENCY.
They will have a field day and keep Rogers in check. He will not have time to throw.

Hey 4thand1, What do you think today? By the way, I've been in LV. What ever happened to Stroh?? I don't see him commenting anymore? The line is down to - 7 1/2 GB. Just about any other game, I'd go the other way. What do you think on this one?? LVT

I still have the Voikes over the Pats due to their strong defense. I said before the season that the Vikes had the top three running backs in the league but now Pederson is missing, so they only have the next two best running backs in the league.

Yeah, but I bet they aren't as good at beating the shit out of 4 year-olds as the guy they are replacing.
