Nagler's Never Right: 2015 Season Week Five

Aaron's NFL picks for Week 5 of the 2015 regular season.

Last week: 9-6

Season: 44-19

My first truly bad week of the season followed up with my first bad Thursday night pick. (Remind me never to pick Houston again.)

Here's hoping I turn it around on Sunday...

Indianapolis vs Houston

Chicago vs Kansas City

The Bears showed a little something last week in their win over the Raiders. The Chiefs, meanwhile, continue to frustrate with their inconsistent ways on offense. While a Bears upset wouldn’t surprise me, I see the Chiefs getting back on track against Chicago.

Seattle vs Cincinnati

No Marshawn Lynch is a problem, but the offensive line will be a bigger one for Seattle in this game. While I don’t think the Bengals blow them out or anything, I do think Cincinnati pulls away in the second half in this one.

Washington vs Atlanta

Washington will be without most of their starting secondary in this one, which is obviously suboptimal when facing Julio Jones, who is listed as Questionable. All signs point to him playing, however, which is pretty much all I need to pick Atlanta in this one.

Jacksonville vs Tampa Bay

Jameis Winston is throwing interceptions. This was to be expected. The big question remains - will he learn from them? Unlike most, I’ll let his season play out prior to labeling it a bust. Blake Bortles, meanwhile, looks like he’s taken a step forward in his development, but the Jaguars offense is still an eyesore. Give me the Bucs at home.

New Orleans vs Philadelphia

You reap what you sow, Chip. Nearly every single decision Kelly made as the guy calling the personnel shots this offseason can be called into question in light of the Eagles disappointing start to the season. The Saints are dealing with the repercussions of their own bad decisions. I tend to think Chip and the Eagles survive this one to pull to 2-3.

Cleveland vs Baltimore

The Browns were robbed of a win last week, but they have to shake that off and get ready for a tough divisional matchup with a still-desperate Ravens team that will be without Steve Smith. I’ve been a bit shocked at how competently Josh McCown is playing the quarterback position and I really want to take the Browns here, but I think John Harbaugh has his team ready for this one.

St. Louis vs Green Bay

Much has been made about the Rams’ defensive line, and rightfully so. But this is Aaron Rodgers in Lambeau and the Packers most likely get Bryan Bulaga back. The Rams pulled off the upset in Arizona by creating turnovers and limiting the Cardinals to field goals. I don’t see that continuing on Sunday. Todd Gurley will get his yards, but the Packers pull away in the second half.

Buffalo vs Tennessee

The Bills defense is starting to show tendencies and offensive coordinators are starting to counter them. Rex needs to start switching things up more on third downs. The Titans are coming off a bye week and look to have a full compliment of pass catchers for Mariota to work with. Give me the Titans and a surprisingly efficient Tennessee offense.

Arizona vs Detroit

The Lions get DeAndre Levy back. That’s the good news in Detroit. Most of the rest of it is bad news. Joe Lombardi has been a major disappointment to me so far this season. The Cardinals are smarting over the Rams loss and get back on track against the reeling Lions.

New England vs Dallas

This would have been a great game had Dallas been healthy. Alas, they aren’t, so it won’t be. New England rolls.

Denver vs Oakland

I see several of my media colleagues stating this is the year the Raiders finally get over the hump against the Broncos. Sorry, but I just don’t see it, not against the Denver defense. Yes, Peyton is struggling. It won’t matter on Sunday. Denver wins.

San Francisco vs New York Giants

Don’t look now, but Steve Spagnolo is starting to round this Giants defense into shape. The 49ers’ offense shouldn’t present much of an obstacle and Eli and the offense do enough to keep this one out of reach for the punchless 49ers.

Pittsburgh vs San Diego

Philip Rivers is playing at an extremely high level once again and getting little national recognition for it. Again. The Steelers will roll out Mike Vick again and hope he can limit mistakes while being a steward for an offense that lives by the play of Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. At home on Monday night, look for Rivers and the Chargers offense to put on a show against the Steelers’ defense. Chargers get the win.
