Murphy Unveils Throwbacks for 2015, Talks Packers In London

At today's Green Bay Packers shareholders meeting, Mark Murphy gave an overview of where the franchise stands.

In what has become more celebration than business meeting, Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy took to the stage this afternoon inside the bowl in Lambeau Field and touched on a wide array of issues.

  • On the throwback uniforms for 2015: "It makes sense to have a throwback rather than a neon or brightly colored yellow,” Murphy said following the annual meeting, attended by just under 12,000 on a warm summer day. “It really accentuates the unique history and tradition we have."
  • On the possibility of the Packers playing a regular season game in London: “I hope it happens. I think it would be good for the organization, in terms of our fan base. I know it’s on Aaron Rodgers' bucket list. Anytime we can help Aaron achieve his bucket list, that would be good.”
  • Murphy also mentioned the project to improve Wi-Fi connectivity inside Lambeau.

As for the state of the Packers' financials, that was covered extensively as well by various members of the organization. A good overview can be found here

The green bay/milwaukee packers? They should come play in my town too. There is too much invested in lambeau to even consider that. I think the days of playing over a baseball diamond are pretty much over. When i take over after goodell gets shit canned there will be no more domes and that acl tearing turf. Everyone needs to have dreams and goals.

That is the most cynical cash-grab that places money over competitiveness on the field. Play an exhibition game in London if you must. (Hell, one of my sons and I just watched an exhibition soccer game at Miller Park a few weeks ago. What's wrong with that? (Aside from it being a soccer game.) Everyone had fun and I don't think any cared that the game didn't "count."

Why does the NFL insist on playing games that actually matter at 5am and depriving a team of a home game? And why would the Packers even *think* if only momentarily that giving up a game at Lambeau would be a good idea?

I've never been a fan of Mark Murphy. I'm still not.

Mark: if its on Rodgers "bucket list" to bang your four daughters, do you still stand by the statement that "anytime we can help Aaron achieve his bucket list, that would be good."

It's a big relief that Lambeau will have better wi-fi, so that I can catch up on Orange is the New Black while the Packers are up 5 touchdowns against the Bears.

I was hoping for the uniform from the 60's , it really would have reminded people of the Lombardi era teams, yellow pants, grey face mask, all the stripes on the sleeves and socks I think they would have been a big seller as far as merchandise goes. How cool would a Rodgers jersey be if it was similar to what Starr wore.

Aside from the striped socks (which, I agree, are great), a 60s throwback would look pretty much identical to what they wear now. An extra stripe on the sleeve and no collar stripe and that's pretty much it. They're not about to make a long-sleeve throwback jersey.

I can't find in myself a scintilla of interest in throw back uniforms. Verdict: money grab.

I agree with the substance of DD Driver's comment: I don't give a rip what's on Aaron's bucket list - always, always do what is in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers franchise.
