More On Matthews

Echoing my thoughts below, Tom Silverstein gives us the following:

He didn't have a single tackle, but rookie linebacker Clay Matthews sent out a message Sunday afternoon that the Cardinals better figure out a way to block him or they'll be in for a long day on offense next week. Matthews was dominant rushing the passer against journeyman left tackle Jeremy Bridges, who took over the left tackle job when Wayne Gandy was lost for the season. Matthews had three hits on the quarterback and drew two holding penalties that were so blatant everyone in the stadium saw them. Matthews used his speed to dip outside on Bridges, then changed it up and bulled inside. One of the holding penalties came when he ran a stunt and blasted through guard Reggie Wells, who pulled him down.

I'll only add that Bridges was the same 'journeyman tackle' that stoned Jared Allen when the Cardinals demolished the Vikings a few weeks ago. He does well against traditional 4-3 defensive ends but he has had all sorts of problems with speedier outside linebackers.

Clay Matthews is going to be nothing but trouble for the Cards.

Aaron,

How are you feeling about the draft day trade for CM3 now? I remember when it happened, you were conflicted; thrilled at the trade up and the pick but not happy with all the picks that were given up for the right to draft him. With his first (regular) season in the bag and the promise of a bright future, were the picks worth what we got in return?

I can't wait to see CM3 hit Warner. Than Warner starts fumbling and mumbling.

manolito - More than happy with the trade. I declared I think 2 weeks before Packer Transplants went dark for a month that I had gotten on board the Matthews bandwagon. More than worth it.

Have to admit, I was a bit aghast at the price we paid at first, but man, the kid's motor alone is worth it. Not to mention the fact that he's also got skeeeillz...;-)

I got it from a Vikings fan that was actually Beau Bridges at LT, and this was not even a football game.

Any thought on the offese's hot start? Haven't seen them start out that in sync maybe all season. Just a result of vanilla defense?

If it weren't for Charles, I'd make CM3 DPOY. He's gotta get DROY though.
