Yup, resigning him to a team friendly deal was key and that deal certainly isn't a "break the bank" type deal against the Pack's finances. Awesome job TT!

I know some people didn't want Neal back at any price but I am happy to see him return. I think this year he finally becomes a major player for the defense.
I know MM said he had plans to use Neal in more of a hybrid OLB/DE/DT role but injuries at OLB kept them from using him anywhere besides OLB. I really want to see what hes capable of in that role.
One thing about McCarthy is when he makes something a point of emphasis, like the running game last year, drops, fumbles, ect. he usually delivers. So I trust him when he says the changes are coming to the defense especially with his front players.
Even without adding any significant FAs on defense, I truly believe we will have a much improved defense from the last couple of years simply because they finally start playing these guys to their strengths instead of plugging them into outdated cookie cutter roles.
In todays NFL its all about the pass. Sure you have to be able to stop teams from running all over you but I would rather error on the side of having a devastating pass rush anyday over being able to stop the run consistently.
Pass rushing is an art form, stuffing the run is all about attitude and effort.
