I thought I had it: the odd take on Gute, the line by line poetry style, the selective misspellings and misuse of capital letters…but it just didn’t “hit”. Maybe folks object to the mockery of their hero. However, in the words of the great Andy Samberg: Never stop never stopping!😉

This is great. I’m fired up.

It will be a pleasure watching all the other teams in the Norris crowing about how they slayed the draft. Draft banners will be raised. We will go about our business and win championships with our guys.

"We will go about our business and win championships"

LOL, we'll see. You're delusional if you don't think the Lions slayed the draft. I'm not a Lions fan and even I see they killed it. Time will tell.

Oh, and the Lions have beat you 'championship' Packers 4 of the last 5 meetings. You might want to try beating them more often before thinking about 'championships'.

You Cheesedorks are hilarious. Keep up the comedy!

Slaying the draft.

Megatron, Stafford, Williams, Williams, Rodgers, Suh, and a host of other great draft picks have combined to win 0 playoff games for you guys. Keep on slaying.

The 4 out of 5 stuff is hilarious. Why not 0-1, which is also true? Or we could go back 20 years, count the last 40 games and see Detroit at 13-27.

The winningest coach in Detroit history has a losing record. Dan Campbell, the great new hope, has a losing record.

We will go about our business of winning the division, and the Lions will go about their business of trying not to be one of the worst teams in the league. I think the Lions are going to struggle this year. They play a first place schedule and two of the teams in their division, Green Bay and Chicago, are better than they were a year ago. IMO, they won't do as well as they did last year. In fact, they've probably peaked and they won't be back in the Championship game for another 30 years.

We satisfied the prime directive of protecting the QB with the first pick.
Edgerrin Cooper at #41 was pretty predictable.

We have a bunch of rookie Safeties now. It'll be interested to see who makes the active roster. It still looks like McKinney and a bunch of question marks. It kind of reminds me of when Gutekunst drafted Moore, EQ, MVS, and signed Kumerov and Lazard, all in a quest to find ONE guy who could pair with (Adams, then, and McKinney, now) a solid player. All these safeties are going to be in competition with each other to stay healthy, practice well, and produce on the field. You'd assume Bullard would rise to the top, but we'll see.

Hopper was because we actually need to be able to dress out 5 LBs, and we only had two that are worth dressing out. Much like the safety spot, we needed bodies. Hopefully, Cooper and Hopper will both stay healthy and play well, but the odds say they'll both have rookie struggles.

I'm a little unhappy that we waited so long to address the OL after we got off to such a good start. In two years, most of our Oline will be FAs or already gone, and the guys we took this weekend are going to be the core of the group that protects Love for the next four years. I like our starters and maybe the football gods will keep them on the field this year.

Lloyd should not have been a surprise. One of the fastest and strongest RBs in the draft, he has low mileage and fits very well with what the Packers want from their RBs.......other than he's going to have to hang onto the rock or they won't give it to him. That's what is going to make or break this guy. The very first time he coughs it up, that's going to be mentioned. The second time, it'll be a pattern. I am assuming the Packers coaches have looked at these fumbles and think they can improve his carriage and improve his ball security.

It'll be interesting to see how many of these guys actually survive training camp and make the 53, and how many end up on the practice squad.

Agreed that it would've been best for the 2nd OL to be taken before the 5th round, but I don't think it was necessary to do so. They can keep the OL filled out by picking a couple each year, on average.

Well, you need 9, and they have 4 year contracts, so you need to replace at least two every year. Occasionally you have a year like last year, where we didn't draft any and so now you need 4 the next year.????

Plus, that little thing called the Salary Cap restricts your efforts to have an offensive line of highly paid veterans. It used to be that you could draft a guy and feel the position was settled for 10 years, but free agency/salary cap means that most of your offensive line has to be guys on their rookie deal.

And that's what we have right now. Jenkins makes big coin and everybody else is on a rookie deal. In two seasons, that's going to change, and we aren't going to be able to keep Jenkins, Walker, Rhyan, and Tom along with Watson and Doubs. We need to be getting their replacements on the team now.

The priorities suggest that they actually like the players they have in reserve on the line.

Yes, some contracts are coming due, but they've been working with guys for 2+ years on the practice squad and they must feel like they're covered.

Yes. But then again, this is the same front office has had their season end every year since 2020 with replacement linemen on the field. Logically, they might think about addressing that. Last year, Nijman came on the field to replace an injured Tom. Bosa got loose from him and pressured Love into the interception that ended the season.

I remember distinctly the 2019 playoff loss, when the 49ers offensive line just pushed us out of the way and I remember thinking "I wish we had a line that could just push people out of the way". I'm tired of losing these games because we can't make holes or protect our QB when the game is on the line.

I think it is illogical to keep doing the same thing and expect different results. Those #6, #7, #8 linemen have to be able to play against playoff level competition. I think we should relentlessly pursue the perfect offensive line, from 1-8.

Like you I was a little surprised the Packers didn't go back for more IOL in round four, but I think the Packer O-line will be fine this year. Depending on a couple of contracts some more reinforcements might be needed next year. The first seven should be Walker, Jenkins, Myers, Rhyan, Tom, Morgan and Monk plus two more from the group of Dillard, Glover, Newman, Jones, Tenuta and Telfort.

I also think Dillard will have to play his way off the team to not make the 53. He has versatility as a tackle and guard and has considerable experience. Hopefully he doesn't make a mess of his opportunity.

As rounds 4 and 5 cycled through, teams weren't hitting the OL prospects very hard, and there were several nice prospects that just kept going by...was a little maddening.

I love the safety picks. This is truly a new beginning defensively. I can't believe Hafley's good fortune, he'll have two teams in the division starting rookie QB's.

Yeah I am still a bit concerned about IOL depth unless Dillard or Glover turns out to be really good IOL depth (and I would not count on a 7th round pick to provide that in his rookie year). I think tackle is fine with Morgan and Dillard as backups/prospective starters. I am not fine with Newman, Monk and Glover as IOL depth. I wouldn't be surprised if Gute finds a veteran to sign on the IOL.

Guam,

it's too soon to be calling it. Let's just hope that legitimate competition produces excellence in evaluation, and they determine their best five quickly and get them practicing together. Same with the second string.

Also, Newman? Seriously, let's hope he gets squeezed out.

I feel the same way you do about Newman but he is on the roster and given fewer IOL draftees than I expected , I included him as a possibility.

I also don't think it is too early to believe the top seven I listed will make the team - the only real question on that list is Monk and the Packers are notorious for not cutting draftees.

Leatherhead,
It was kinda cool because with Lloyd…everyone was like “ he’s only 5’9”. I was like, dude….hes 220lbs and runs a 4.4….thats fast and compact. That low center of gravity is a very real deal in FB. 220 of muscle on that type of frame i’m suspecting is good. I’m excited to see what the run game offers with Jacob’s , Dillon, Wilson and now Lloyd. One thing I love about LaFluer vs McCarthy is that he really places a priority on the run game. I don’t know anything about the late round safeties. But with Xavier McKinney, Nixon… etc it can’t be any worse than last year. Especially with a coach who won’t pull a Barry burger and play 10 yards off on 3rd and whatever.

A few interesting points on this Packer draft that will NOT be surprising to many:
*Once again, early picks are SEC and West Coast guys. Packers definitely trust these scouts. It was not until the 5th round selection of Monk did they go outside of those two areas.
* Packer meetings at post-season events again drove the draft.
* Senior Bowl guys predominate their draft selections, again!
* Despite the multiple Packer scouts reported at the Michigan/Ohio State game, the Packers selected zero in the draft.
* No Iowa or Northwestern guys this year, but a Penn State player is picked late again.
* For all of the meetings and interest in the Florida State secondary, the Packers did not gain one player from this school, or for that matter, Pitt whom they also demonstrated interest in.

Thanks for that summary. Another pattern that continued was they did not draft any gigantic players. All three O-linemen weighed less than 320.

Overall I like the draft class. Oladapo and Cooper were probably my favorite picks, Hopper and Williams my least favorite. My prediction for what the starting secondary will be year is Jaire and Valentine on the outside, Bullard in the slot, Oladapo in the box and McKinney as the post

The Pack got a grade of B from the analyst. The worst pick was the linebacker because he didn't play traditional linebacker in college and may have a tough adjustment period trying to go down hill. and plahying in the box. They liked the first pick Morgan a lot and think he could be a solid starter.

My main quibble is with the Lloyd selection.

RB is simply not neeeded.

RB are not drafted and developed, they are plug and play.

The time to pick a RB is when you need one, not before, especially when you have other much more pressing needs and talented players to add to the mix.

RB is a low value, instant gratification selection in todays NFL.

We signed Jacobs and brought Dillon back along with a promising Wilson. A couple of UDFA's would have sufficed to bring in a 4th string PS insurance policy.

Next year or the year after would have supplied plenty of Lloyds if we needed them then.

Not the wisest move ever.

The RB pick was expected by most people because last year the drop-off in talent was too great when Aaron Jones got hurt and A.J. Dillon had to play full time. We needed an upgrade over Dillon. I expect significant playing time for Lloyd this year if he does not beat Dillon outright for the #2 RB job. Also, I don't think you can always plug and play a rookie RB because they may need a year to get up to speed with their pass blocking. Dillon was the #3 RB as a rookie.
