McCarthy: Updates on Finley, Hargrove From Day 2 of Packers Camp

Packers coach Mike McCarthy gave quick updates on Jermichael Finely and Anthony Hargrove—no-shows Friday—following Day 2 of Packers training camp.

Tight end Jermichael Finley and defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove joined the six players on either the PUP or NFI list as no-shows Friday, and coach Mike McCarthy gave the reasons why following the Packers second day of training camp practice.

Finley suffered a minor concussion during Thursday's practice, and Hargrove was out of Green Bay for an excused personal issue.

McCarthy said that Finley will be kept out a few days. New concussion procedures installed by the NFL, plus the Packers' likely caution on the second day of camp, are the likely reasons for Finley missing the next couple of practices.

It was not immediately known what personal issue caused Hargrove to miss Friday, but one could assume that his absence had something to do with his on-going battle against the NFL over his 8-game suspension to start 2012. At this point, that is only an educated guess. The Packers expect Hargrove back in Green Bay Friday night.

Other quick notes:

  • The Packers have installed a time clock for both their offense and defense. After the ball is snapped, the clock flashes after about 2.5 seconds. The goal of the device is to have quarterbacks getting the ball out of their hands in that amount of time, and for the defense to have the pass rush getting home close to 2.5 seconds.
  • Saturday's practice will be full pads for the first time. McCarthy called the first time a "milestone in every camp."
  • RB Alex Green has been cleared for padded practice Saturday.

Love the clock thing for both the QBs and the pass rush, why didn't they do this before?

So, a camp body who's suspended for 1/2 the season misses a practice and that's somehow news?

I think he's a little more than a camp body.

If I was Hargrove I'd be there trying to make a good impression in the short time that he has. If the courts don't hold it up then he has a very short time to impress the coach's. He'd have to stay away from the facility starting week one and not be allowed back till after week 8. Then I would imagine it would take him a week or two before we could even use him which puts him around the bye week before he see's the field! If I was him I'd be giving it everything I had. RIGHT NOW!!!! I mean didn't he have enough time in the off-season to take care of personal matters?

Come the second half of the season, not to mention the playoffs, you'll want a fresh body at the DL that can create pressure.

If the Hargrove absence was related to his suspension, than it may be in the Packers best interest to let him go and take care of his "personal" matter.
