McCarthy Finally Admits the Obvious

I wish I could have been in the room for McCarthy's presser today. It sounds as though it was the first bit of candidness he's shown in quite some time. He second-guessed his second down call on the goal line possession (though not the fullback dive - sigh), he revealed the impending release of punter Derrick Frost and, in what to me is the most telling quote, said the following:

We've got to be a little more physical in certain spots of our game.

As far as I know, that's the first time McCarthy has publicly acknowledged what I and many, many other bloggers and media members have noted over the course of the last three years - that the Packers under McCarthy have become a finesse team, unable to do things like pound the football for a yard when it was necessary. It will be interesting to see if McCarthy and, more importantly, Thompson do anything this offseason to address what is a glaring lack of toughness on their football team.

Since that idiot TT forced MM to the forefront of the Favre debacle, old MM has kept his lip zipped. It is time to expend some verbal fire power at the enemy. That would be TT.

Trying to change a finesse into a smashmouth team is just asking for more injuries at this point in the season.

When we lost the too cold weather games last season I knew we slipped into finesse land.

Yeah, finesse has really worked so well. Here's a stat that should open some eyes. Kampen 9 sacks. Number two in sacks at 2.5, Cullen Jenkins. He's been out for almost two months. Smash Mouth? I'd accept "somewhat irritated".
