McCarthy: Clifton Out, Hopeful for Neal's Return Next Week

Head coach Mike McCarthy said they're hopeful Mike Neal will practice next week but Chad Clifton is still multiple weeks away.

While both offensive lineman Chad Clifton and defensive lineman Mike Neal have officially been ruled out for this week's game against the San Diego Chargers, there's hope that they'll still return this season.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said during his press conference on Monday that the medical staff is hopeful that Neal will get on the practice field next week in preparation for the Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings. Neal has been out since training camp in August after twisting his knee, requiring surgery.

“Mike Neal, the medical staff is hopeful he will complete his rehab segment this week and get on the field as part of the practice environment next week,” said McCarthy.

McCarthy also said that Clifton's return is still multiple weeks away and his recovery from a hamstring injury was an ongoing process.

Neal back for a playoff run would be a huge bonus, I believe. And for the end of the season to give some guys, like Raji, a few reps off. Would be fantastic. Hope is works out.

As a part of the practice environment? Sounds like he's a ways a way from actually practicing. Just hoping he's healthy by the playoffs.

Three months to get back on the practice field because of a twisted knee? Glad Neal didn't really hurt himself.

$5,000, 7 months of rehab, and a year and a half later, I still feel the lingering affects of knee surgery every day. A knee injury is not something to mess with. He didn't do any major damage, like I did, but why risk the chance of putting him out there too soon and actually doing major damage. And it's not like were 7-0 or anything...
