Ladies and Gentlemen...Alan Herman

Good god, don't tell me it's going to be another offseason of having to listen to this blowhard.

via Bob McGinn:

They have to maintain a commitment to winning, and there has to be a sense of fairness with their players if they're to continue along this track. I've been in this business for 27 years, and one of the most demanding fan bases is in Green Bay.More often than not, they try to be fair with their players. They've got a very tough guy to negotiate with in Russ Ball , but I think he is a guy of high integrity. I think the whole organization has high integrity people in it, and I can't say that about a lot of other teams.

I just feel the team will be receptive to what we propose, there will be a compromise and we'll get something done.

Emphasis all mine.

Really Alan? You think Russ Ball is a guy of high integrity? And that the whole organization has high integrity people in it? That's funny, because I could have SWORN two summers ago you were blabbing to any reporter who would listen about how INSULTING the Packers initial offer to Ryan Grant was. Oh that's right, I remember that because it happened. Gee, I wonder what happened to change your tune Alan? Oh, that's right, Thompson and the Packers basically caved into your demands because they didn't want to deal with the headache you were causing while they were busy dealing with the migraine headache Favre was causing.

Look, Alan? Your client deserves a new contract. Just shut up and get it done and stop playing this thing out in the press.

2 Years later and the Packers being seen as a competitive team (a team with a chance to get to the play offs) has away of changing a player's and their agents tune.

This, coupled with the last post, makes you seem to play both sides of the fence, Aaron. I suppose that's what you're going for. Really, this is just the way the game is played. Bus Cook is notorious for doing this, as most everyone should know by now, and before the high-profiled pattern developed(McNair, Favre, Cutler), most people never noticed, because he was VERY good. Rosenhaus became a household name because he took a more blatant approach to the same game. Basically, the teams have the leverage in MOST contract-related situations, so the media is the only place the agents really have the power to wage a battle. Of course, the teams know this, which is why you get situations like the aforementioned Kampman story, in hopes of curtailing the damage that can be done.

packsmack - Nick Collins getting a long term deal and bringing Kampman back are completely different matters.

It's the same as when you are pushing for promotion/pay rise at work. If you have recently performed really well (grant 07) you can play the 'you need me, I deserve more money' card, but other times you need to suck up to the boss to improve your chances.

Right Aaron, I'm just saying, the media is where the dirty part of both cases comes to fruition.

Over the past two seasons I've learned this, Ball negotiates the way he is instructed to negotiate by TT. He will back off when, and only when, he is instrcuted to by TT. His only flexibility is making sure he hits the number TT gave him, Any impase, enter TT. Whether you like TT or not, Ball has nothing to do with the final outcome if there is any contention.

Sounds like Herman is schmoozing for current and future clients.

These comments aren't even remotely close to schmoozing..
.
It's pretty standard fare: The agent, by telling the world the Packers are of high integrity and generally "try to be fair with the players", is setting the public mindset that he and his clients' contract demands are only fair and any NFL organization with any integrity would naturally submit to their demands.
.
Again, this is NOT schmoozing. This is attempting to manipulate public opinion.
