Kampman Thanks The Fans

Aaron Kampman has taken out a full page ad on the back of today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Sports section, thanking the fans for the last eight years.

Not much you can really say here except that Kampman leaves the same way he spent his time in Green Bay – as a class act.

  1. Jersey Al says:

Is that a biblical reference underneath his signature? Anyone know what it refers to?

    • Aaron Nagler says:

Think its a passage from Corinthians.

    • pczrvp says:

      2 Corinthians 5:17-21

17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

It’s a lot shorter the way Kampman does it.

  2. bigfog says:

Great guy through and through. Helluva Packer.

  3. PackerFan4Life says:

kampman was always a class act got mad respect for the man. I hope he does well with the jags with his hand in the dirt again.

  4. AdaminEngland says:

The past year was probably a lot harder for him than he let on (although his silence in camp last year made it easy to presume how he felt), yet still shows respect like this. I hope
for his sake the jags turn things around before they become the next lions and rams of
    the league.

  5. PackersThad says:

Kampman: You don’t have to reminisce about how it felt to be apart of Packer nation, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE apart of Packer nation, and you will ALWAYS BE Packers people! We love you AK74, and Godspeed in Jacksonville!

CHTV: That man is the epitome of class! Every team needs someone like him! We lost a big leader this off-season, here’s to new faces stepping up!

  6. PackersThad says:

ayyyyyy. I miss the edit button…

    * “a part” not, “apart”…BOTH instances…sorry

  7. frosty says:

Makes me sad, though I expected it. If anyone is interested in actually having a message passed on to Aaron & his family, Bedard is claiming he’ll do so for comments on the JS blog post.

  8. NickGBP says:

Nice. He used a pic of him (presumably from last year) rushing with his hand up ;) .

Nothing more needs to be said…but if anyone does find out more about sending a message of thanks to Kampman update the rest of us…I’d definitely like to show my appreciation.

  9. nerdmann says:

Kampy is the real deal. I notice he’s not mentioning MM or TT in his thanks. I think he does have some negative feelings toward how everything went down, but he’s expressing himself in a positive way. He’s not a diva.

    • NickGBP says:

I don’t think we can go down that path nerdmann. He didn’t thank his teammates in the ad either. But they celebrated Aaron’s career as a Packer with a private sendoff. I’m sure he’s expressed his appreciation to the coaching staff and management in his own way. This ad was for the fans.

    • PackersRS says:

He mentioned the Packers’ organization in his thanks. Like NickGPB said, I don’t think we can go down that road.

  10. alfredomartinez says:

class act…im actually tearing up…gotta go get some wings and a few brews, you know…stop these tears from actually happening…

  11. Ryeguy812 says:

    Truly Packer People

  12. bogmon says:

    He will retire a Packer!
He will be missed…played his ass off while he was here and gave us all something to cheer for during a few of the “lean” seasons!!!

  13. Graham says:

I’ll miss what was my favorite Packer for 4 seasons….

I hope he retires a Packer someday.

  14. FITZCORE1252 says:

    Good guy.

  15. dustybricks6 says:

Great Packer. Will always be a favorite. But if you’re doing a tribute to fans, why alienate some with a biblical reference.?I don’t care what you believe, as a fan, I care about what you did on the field. Kampman certainly isn’t the only athlete that does this, but as a fan than doesn’t doesn’t adhere to Kampman’s particular belief (or any), it’s slightly offensive. Play the game, thank your fans, enjoy your new contract. Keep anything else out of it.

    • NickGBP says:

To be technical the bible doesn’t adhere to a particular belief at all. I don’t see why you would take offense to it anyway, even if you don’t practice any religion. He didn’t even quote the passage…all he did was cite it. If you choose to, you can get out a bible and read it. If not, ignore it.

Would you be similarly offended if he quoted a line from a movie? Would you also say that he should keep his personal movie tastes out of it as well? As someone who also doesn’t really adhere to a religion either I can’t quite understand how you could honestly be offended by someone who mentions their particular belief, unless they’re damning you for being a non believer. For religious folks, their faith is an important part of their life and it defines them as much as anything else. I don’t see how that’s any more alienating than mentioning his hometown (what if you’re from a city instead of a small town), or his wife (what if you’re gay?), etc. If that is enough to offend you I think you need some thicker skin.

    • hoogus says:

The biblical reference kills it for me.

  16. Ruppert says:

What a great thing to do. Class act. Maybe he’s pissed off at management–maybe he isn’t. We fans don’t need to know that. Only a childish jerk would go pouting in public about a feud with management in which he didn’t get his way. Aaron is above smearing the legendary Green Bay Packers organization, as he put it.
    ________
It’s going to be so weird to see AK in those nasty Jacksonville unis. Good luck, Aaron!

    • PackersRS says:

He’s not pissed off with the management, because he knows it wasn’t personal.

He may still be pissed off, like he was, with the decision itself. But I don’t believe he would be mad with the people.

  17. jrehor says:

Two simple words. Class Act. Seems to be the sentiment of everyone here as well. He will be missed.

  18. cow42 says:

if he was “pure class” he wouldn’t have pouted all last preseason. everything he’s done since the “d” change has been about “aaron kampman”.

congrats – you got what you wanted… you get to “put your hand back on the ground”. have fun getting your d*ck kicked in with the rest of your crappy teammates in jacksucksville.

  19. Ron LC says:

Truly amazing! Just can’t please some people, I guess.

As a self made player who gave his all every play, even those plays where he was in a position he knew was not a strength, it is the Packer fans who should take out the Ad to celebrate his years with the team.
    _____

If he left behind any of his drive and determination with other Packer players, we will still be benificiaries of his talent for years to come.
    ____
As far as his religious references, last time I looked it was still a free country.

  20. RockinRodgers says:

Kampman is awesome. I wish him good luck in Jax. I’m glad he signed with a AFC, so I can still cheer him on.

  21. cow42 says:

i don’t understand wishing him luck.
    -
    he wanted to leave.
    -
    he left.
    -
he plays for anther team now… by choice.
    -
    he is now the enemy.
    -
i also don’t get this “he’s a great guy” thing… seriously? did any one of you guys actually know him? did y’all hang out? the fact of the matter is that no one truly KNOWS any of these guys. more and more we are seeing that who these guys seem to be on tv is not who they are in real life. how do we know this doesn’t hold true for kampman? seems like a good guy – so did tiger woods – so did dwayne wade – so did kobe. Hey – there’s a real good chance that AK was a standup guy… but there’s also a chance he wasn’t. i don’t pretend to know because i never actually will know. so why even bother with that? I DON’T CARE.
    -
i choose to keep it simple. if you play for the packers i will root for you and celebrate your successes. if you play for another team you are the enemy and i want you to fail. who you are means nothing to me.

  22. IPBprez says:

PackersTHAD is right. Kampman will always be thought of as a Packer! At least 35% of our Membership wears his Jersey, without fail. Sad to see him go – but, it has to be the best for his career. I would think it’d be awesome to have him and Peppers on the same Defense. Seriously!

  23. Glorious80s says:

The ad, well done and paid by AK, WAS a CLASSY thing to do. You can only judge on actions and this was one. How many times do players or coaches or administration take the time and expense to thank the fans?
Best wishes AK in Jax. The weather’s nice in winter. They might also end up with Tebow, a kindred spirit it would appear. The Jags have some good players and the #10 draft position. Should be OK.
The Biblical reference is fine with me.
Hope to see AK back in WI to visit when it’s all done.

  24. Bearmeat says:

Cow42 – to Quote Aaron (many times)

    SERIOUSLY? I mean… WOW!

AK has done many good things for the people of Green Bay APART from being a damn fine football player. I would rather have 53 Kampy’s on my team than 53 Pacman Jones’. AK has always been a blue collar, humble man who “happened” to be a great D End for nearly a decade with the Green and Gold.
    -
Remember, football players are human beings first and foremost. He’s earned nothing but praise for his talent and efforts over the years. You slamming him like that shows a pretty large lack of class yourself.

    • cow42 says:

      what slam?
      -
did i say he couldn’t play? – no (although i do think he’s overrated by packer fans).
      -
did i say he wasn’t a good guy? – no. he very well may be. in fact, i thing he probably is… but who cares?
      -
he clearly did not want to do what the team needed him to do – and he showed his displeasure (pout).then he decided he no longer wanted to be part of the team AT ALL.
      -
his leaving was “all business”. and that’s exactly my point. i think fans who get caught up in the whole “he’s a good guy” thing are chumps. i root for the green ‘n’ gold uniform and the “G” on the helmet. i could not care less who’s wearing it – as long as they bring back a trophy.
      -
HE CHOSE TO LEAVE THE TEAM I (AND YOU) ROOT FOR. HE DECIDED HE NO LONGER WANTED TO BE HERE.
      -
why should i want to “give him a hug” while he turns his back and leaves?

      • cow42 says:

oh – and i’d take 53 pac mans over 53 kampmans if the pac mans were gonna bring home that big silver trophy with the football on top of it.
        -
        8 days a week.

  25. BLACKHAWK says:

I would view Kampman as the enemy if and when the Packers and Jacksonville meet. Have to root for him and the Jags if they face the Bears and Queens.

  26. Erik says:

AK worked so hard to be a quality DL for the pack. Class act absolutely. My family wishes you continued success.
