Kaepernick's Wisconsin Roots on Display on Super Bowl Sunday

Could Colin Kaepernick actually have been a high school backup to a Milwaukee Brewers farmhand? It's perhaps not as far-fetched as you might think.

As you've probably heard by now, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee and lived in Wisconsin until the age of four.

Kaepernick briefly lived in Fond du Lac, where I used to work as a high school English and journalism teacher for four years.

While in New Orleans this past week, I pondered, "What if he never left? What if he played his high school football at the school I worked at?"

I called a former colleague at Fondy, the local colloquialism, and investigated further.

As I found out, Fond du Lac's quarterback in what would have been Kaepernick's senior season in high school is now an up-and-coming pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system whose arm is his best asset.

Could Kaepernick actually have been a backup in high school? It's perhaps not as far-fetched as you might think.

I also had the opportunity this week to ask Kaepernick this about the dream of playing in the Super Bowl as a child.

My article was picked up by the local Gannett publication, the Fond du Lac Reporter. You can read it here...

Funny having this talent in your back yard and not keeping an eye on his progree in college and picking him up cheap is not smart. Just think, we could have cut Rogers and put this guy in and lost nothing and gained some big time draft picks.
