Kaepernick briefly lived in Fond du Lac, where I used to work as a high school English and journalism teacher for four years.
While in New Orleans this past week, I pondered, “What if he never left? What if he played his high school football at the school I worked at?”
I called a former colleague at Fondy, the local colloquialism, and investigated further.
As I found out, Fond du Lac’s quarterback in what would have been Kaepernick’s senior season in high school is now an up-and-coming pitcher in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system whose arm is his best asset.
Could Kaepernick actually have been a backup in high school? It’s perhaps not as far-fetched as you might think.
I also had the opportunity this week to ask Kaepernick this about the dream of playing in the Super Bowl as a child.
My article was picked up by the local Gannett publication, the Fond du Lac Reporter. You can read it here…
