Journal Sentinel = Epic Fail

This is so wrong headed, so misbegotten, so OFFENSIVE, I have trouble catching my breath to find the words necessary to condemn it.

But let me try.

It seems the Sports Editor over at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one Garry D. Howard, has taken it upon himself to lecture Packers fans on how they should behave upon entering Lambeau Field this Sunday.

And they wonder why newspapers are dying.

Let me get this straight: Howard has the temerity to tell Corey and 70,000 of his closest friends how Favre should be greeted and treated when he makes his appearance with the teams most bitter current rival but he doesn't feign even having a cursory grasp of the facts and reasons Packers fans are upset and might just boo the hell out of Favre.

From Howard:

He has it all.

Guts and guile.

Talent and obsession.

Stubbornness and playfulness.

And that is why the divorce was so messy.

Still, from where I sit, the love on both sides is clearly evident, I don't care what comes out of your mouth, because the numbers on my side of this business say you are ravenous when it comes to any news concerning No.?4.

Business got in the way of this relationship, that's all - I'm on record as stating that it was definitely time to say goodbye - but it is the only reason Brett will be standing on the wrong side of the field come Sunday afternoon.

Where in the hell do you start with this?

First off, yes Gary, we are ravenous for news about #4 - mostly because we can't wait to hear what pile of garbage will come flowing out of his mouth the next time he's standing at a podium. Next, you say the ONLY reason Favre will be playing with the Vikings next Sunday is because of a business relationship went wrong? Man, no wonder you head up the sports beat, because you seem to know jack shit about people and what makes their relationships tick. Good thing you just need to worry about getting the box score right and making sure your guys report who beat whom and where they did it, because if readers looked to you for any kind of illumination into the human condition, we'd all be one step closer to making the movie "28 Days Later" a reality.

Look, if you're going to have the balls big enough to tell Packer fans how they should behave, at least have an argument that acknowledges why they MIGHT be upset. But to throw out this "He was so good to the Packers, blah blah blah" bullshit is just more than I can take.

Garry, I don't have a problem with you telling us how YOU feel about it. It's clear you still respect Favre (hell, I think it's pretty clear that I still do) but for you to use your platform to treat Packer fans like a bunch of toddlers who need looking after (ok, some fall afternoons at Lambeau it sure seems this might be the case, but I digress...) is an abuse of your position, plain and simple.

Yes, I wrote a piece about how much I still love the guy - but that doesn't mean I don't want to punch him in the face for the way he's behaved not just over the last two years, but the last five or six. I'm sick and tired of hearing about all the good things he did and how Packer fans are just supposed to forget the fact that Favre demanded a trade and then turned around and said how he could never play in another uniform. I'm tired of hearing how he wanted to come back and play for the Packers after retiring, when it is WELL DOCUMENTED that he and Bus Cook were calling the Vikings (and other teams as well!) about coming to play for them...ONE MONTH after retiring from the Packers.

No, Gary, Packer fans have every right to boo the hell out of Favre and your ill-judged, pious piece of crap column is an affront to thinking fans everywhere.

Why all the anger Aaron? It was a ugly divorce and the Packer Nation handled it wrong. Please admit blame and quit saying it's all Favres fault. Packer Nation did get a draft pick out of a Retired players. Please Packer Nation you wanted this week to happen.

It has been so very difficult to read a lot of the BF love coming out this week and still be able to post rational thoughts. I simply don't understand how many could call themselves Packers fans. Quite frankly, I'm ashamed to have people like Howard associated with my team. My feelings on this are very clear and you were kind enough to give me a forum to express them after #4 signed with the Queens. I acknowledge my opinion is clearly not the only one but I also acknowlegde that Mr. Howard's view is simply the wrong one.

I'm hoping this game is on national TV on the east coast so I don't have to leave my house (and I'm sure it will be). If I go to a sports bar and see a another supposed Packer fan in a purple #4 jersey it will end badly for both of us. Better for me to stay home 'cause I just don't get it

Packer Nation should have kissed his rear. This Man was a very important part of many wonderful years in Green Bay. 16 years, many division championships, two appearances in super bowls, many frustrating years of poor draft picks and lost players in free agency. So what if one year he waffled over coming back or not. He was more loyal and stayed longer than many others who left. Lombardi, Holmgren many other players. Don't forget Favre was traded, he wanted to stay. Green Bay didn't want him. He is coming back on Sunday to show the Packer Nation what they tossed him to the curb. I don’t blame Favre for wanting to shove it down the Green and Gold’s face. I would be ashamed to call myself a packer fan. And I hope they do boo him. I believe he will play better with that kind of response.

Hey, Corey! Wish I could be at the game! Boy, do I ever! Do me a favor - please hold up a sign that reads, "Ted was right" - I think this would be an appropriate way to welcome the old man back. Wish every Packers fan in the stadium would hold one up. That is one welcome that would drill all the way down to his puny little prima donna heart and one he would not soon forget.

Aaron - I understand the frustration but when Peterson retires or moves on through free agency. (I hope the first). I will always open my arms up to welcome him back if he wants to rejoin the team no matter how ugly the divorce was because I will remember those collisions and punishing run-ins with the other opponents. I will forgive him even if he insulted the team. This man lays it out on the field every Sunday open to injury and frankly death the way he runs the ball. I believe the organization owes him a lot more than what they pay him.

Todd do you have nothing better to do then troll our packers site? Im sure all your cronies will be willing to bash us on your own site. if the vikings are so dominate then why did they play bad against bad teams as you say. IMO With the exception of penalties the Packers looked great the last two weeks. Many Vikings backers on this site. They point out that Cleveland and the Lions are meaningless teams and spit their venom. Any football fan knows that regardless of record no team should be taken for granted. If the two teams the Packers played are so bad then why did Minnesota give up 533 yards in offense and 33 points to the same two teams that the Packers gave up 288 total yards and 3 points explain that Todd Im sure we all would love to hear your explaination on that

plus todd did you realize that Rodgers has a rating of 110.8 and Brett Favre is playing great with a 102.2. Minnesota’s defense is 17th in yds and 17th in points given up while Green Bay’s defense is 3rd in yardage and 6th in points per game. Minnesota’s offense is 3rd in points and 12th in yardage per game while Green Bay’s is 9th and 8th.

Wonder what Bedard thinks about his editor in chief.

I agree that Favre can hate Thompson. That is his right to get angry with his employer. BUT, he is going to stick it to 72,000 packer fans in the stadium and millions around the world as well, when we have done nothing against him at all, except hope he would make up his mind to play. Why he thinks he can stick it to us for having done nothing but support him in thick and thin is beyond me.

Sunday we will cheer the Green Bay Packers. Thompson and McCarthy may make mistakes and have issues. But they are fighting for our GREEN BAY PACKERS. I have absolutely no doubt about that. Favre is fighting against us. Now he is the enemy. Nothing more, nothing less.

Aaron - I'm a loyal fan. When Moss left the Vikings I was disappointed that they let him go. Moss did some shady things in the organization but I still looked pass all that and remembered the 89 yard receptions, sandwiched between two defender catches. The man was amazing and I forgave him. Packer’s fans should be ashamed of themselves for such comments about a Wisconsin Icon.

Regardless of the he said/she said stuff, frankly, he is a Minnesota Viking. How can anyone cheer a Minnesota Viking in Lambeau? How? How? It is impossible. Now, we don't have to be derogatory toward him. But we absolutely must cheer only the CURRENT Packers. We want them to DESTROY the Vikings, get first place in the division and win their FOURTH Super Bowl trophy!!! Bottom line. Win the Super Bowl and completely forget Favre (until his number is retired in 50 years or so).

I just want to see a great game and nothing done to your former quarterback that might embarrass the fans of Green Bay. I'll be honest, I could care less that he's a Viking and wearing a Viking uniform. It adds a bit of venom to an already contentious rivalry, but he can play for them if he wants to. That being said.....

I lost any and all respect for Brett in how he carried himself beginning in 05'. He distanced himself from teamates, wasn't committed to football and his actions (including every 'awe shucks, hay seed routine interview) were always focused on Brett. No, I'm not remotely angry that Brett is a Viking. I'm angry and disillusioned for being sucked into a life-long act. I thought Brett did no wrong until it became apparent that he elevated the individual (himself) above the team. Yes, even during 07' when an underwhelming Packer squad played 3 whole teams over .500 to get a playoff opportunity.

I'm disillusioned and angry because the guy lacks character, integrity and any level of honesty. Jets fans were witness to the act as well. Hell, I'm pissed that he didn't bother to dedicate himself to the game while wearing a Packers and Jets uniform, not to mention play within the offense instead of free-lance and lead the world in turnovers. His vindictive nature now has him focused. Why didn't he bother to focus with his other two franchises.

So no, I don't hate the uniform at all, I simply don't respect the man-child that wears it.

CSS - Frankly you’re delusional on the frustration that Brett endured through the years in Packer hell. The organization didn’t seek personal for Favre to use. He wanted to increase the offensive talent but the organization drafted mediocre players. He didn’t get quality to back up his performance. This is why you see the angry that he now displaying. He hated the Packers enough to join a revival team. There are lots behind closed doors that we as fans don’t know about.

i sent my buddy an e-mail about this post and the js article. i'm using his response without permission:

"Funny… I just read Gary Howard’s piece 20 minutes ago while I was on the shitter and was glad of where I was because I would have shat myself otherwise. I truly am sick of sportswriters spouting off with Brett Favre has “earned the right” to act like a total selfish bitch."

i think this is the point - that no one has ever earned the right to be a lying jackass, no matter what they've done for anyone. lots of people get away with it for longer than they should because of their history, but it doesn't make it acceptable.

brent and bus and the whole whiny camp have done nothing but lie and deny and scheme since tt said enough was enough - that brent wasn't more important than the future of the team, than his teammates, than the fans.

minnesotans are now saying we don't show him proper respect? i'm sorry, but you say - better to have cheered and lost than never to have cheered at all? well, actually, i agree - it is better - but have a vikings player worth more than spit earn your respect and be worth this much discussion, and then tell me what you'd do if he pulled the crap brent has. until then, shut the hell up, and i won't tell you how to handle your next late season collapse, or sex-boat scandal, or player arrest.

hey VA Packer fan, you live in Green Bay, oh, you don't? Well, you would understand that the town owns the team. If our city owned our team we'd already have a new stadium. At this moment in our country's history no one wants to spend the money on a stadium even if it pays for itself (which is proven). It's funny that the CA government ponied up the money, especially when they're writing out IOU's for all road construction done in the state and the schools are gettting NO money. :)
Be informed.

Let me tell you what I really LOVED about Garry Howard's piece...The pyramid structure of the quote you posted. The content...well....I am known to be tongue and cheek at times (often with a foot between the two) but I think an editor suddenly popping in with and article like this smells of pomposity. The kind of pomposity one would expect from someone whose parents thought he was so unique they had to spell Gary with two R's.

Kleinsasserfan, I see I struck a sensitive subject with you, haha. You also seem to be jealous that Packer fans are all over the country/world. There are many of us Packer fans in VA, and I'm damn proud too. Yes, I know the fans own the Pack, and that's what makes us unique. Fans that support their teams have a better chance to have stadiums built/upgrades. Face it, your fans don't support like we do, and you don't have the numbers like we have.

Good article, Aaron. Garry D. Howard worships Brent, and projects the various attributes of his hero as some kind of facts. Burt is not some noble character...he craves attention, and he's all about the glory and the money. He's also petty and vindictive. And...he's the enemy. Telling us how to keep worshiping Bart is as stupid as it is repugnant. Leroy Butler nailed it...if you want to applaud/cheer Bert, wear a bag on your head.

Whassup with Todd from Minnihopelis? His team has fan blogs, too, doesn't it? What a troll.

One thing these little Queenie drips keep saying really irritates me. The constant reference to the "US" word when talking about the Queenies. Unless you have, or are now, playing for the Queens the word is not us. It should be them/they or some other appropriate pronoun. Never we or us. If you have paid attention closely to this site's posters at all, you'll notice we almost always use the "Packers" or some other appropriate reference to the team. Not we or us! Please Stop!

Favre solidified my status as a Packer fan, but I don't owe him shit. If people cannot see the real Favre who is obsessed with accolades and attention, then that becomes their problem. Football revolves around the team, not one player. Being a traitor deserves a traitor welcome. His "cute, innocent, hometown kid" persona expired a long time ago. Go PACK!

Green and Gold, never asked for you to cheer for Favre. I just don't understand the viamet hate for Favre. It's quite odd. I've never hated him, hated the Pack, but always, ALWAYS, respected Brett. Never disrespected him, gotten frustrated with the amazing things he's done against my team in the past. The anger against him is staggering. I guess he wanted a reaction out of his ex-fans and I think he's gotten it.

Yeah, I know, it's because he won't be the biggest quarterback in the Viking's history any longer. And honestly, Brett has a chance to bring us to the big dance. That scares an old man that's afraid of losing his legacy. It's sad, but it's just like a school girl making fun of the new girl that moved to town because she's prettier. It's envy, plain and simple.
But yes Pete, I understand. It's something that's in our fiber of being. LOL, I think we thrive on it.

It has nothing to do with being informed, it's called common sense. They're gonna pay $80 - $250 for a player's jersey, they're following the player, not the team.

The Goofers AND the Twins have new stadiums in this economy. The Vikings, why they dont have a new stadium? Maybe its because they have a RE developer for an owner.
Ron LC, we can call Packers "we" if you own stock in the team. Or live in Green Bay, apparently that comes with ownership...

Queens fans - you have an excellent football team (that I hate BTW) that has looked very good through the first 7 games. I'm not sure anyone realized until this year just how bad your QB situation was with TJ. So, there are your props. You deserve them. Having said that, say all you want about Wisconsin, our public football team in GB, which team has more fans, etc. It's all good fun. But please, stop pretending you know what happened with Bert and how you would be so ok with it if something similar happened with the Queens. You don't know and you wouldn't be ok with it. Talk about your TEAM and we can likely co-exist. Thank you

the Gophers and Twin's stadiums were approved before the economy hit the wall. Now we're dealing with a recession. The financing occured before the money dried up. And yes Bomdad, if you infact do live in Green Bay you can call the Pack in a "we or us" fashion. I'm sorry that anyone was offended with my possession of the team I cheer for. I take great pride in them.
Thanks for understanding.

It seems you are teh scared little kid hiding behind the screen. I hope your in here sunday ready to eat crow. You just seem so sure teh vikings are gonna win and so you say "squash" my big boy talk. I bet you dont even have the balls to show up if they lose? so remind me if its all about facts and stats how many rings the queens have?? Hopefully with luck your so called team will be shipped to LA then what? I will be laughing when brent leaves your so called team in shambles with no option at QB. Kleinsasserfan, it's pretty simple why the is much more "animosity" towards him now. It's because there is much more animosity between Packers and Vikings fans than there is between Packers and Jets fans. MUCH more. I mean, MUCH more.

A lot of people still continued to cheer for him last year, because that didn't implie that they would be cheering against the Packers. Now, that is not the case.

Klein - see, that is where you are so wrong (about the frustration with Favre just this year). This blog is littered with BF posts and responses for the last two years. Many of us have been over the whole BF thing for 4 or 5 years. It's not just this year. Far from it. You simply don't have the history of writings and musings that regulars on CHTV have. So like I said, the banter is great and it's what makes the rivalry so special. Just don't go where you don't have the facts - about what we think or why we think it or how long we've been thinking it. You're seeing the end result, not the years of posts that led up to it

Flying Saucer Fan -
A few things:
1. This isn't your fight - this is between Packer fans and # 4. Stay out of it.
2. There are millions of words written about this subject starting in the spring of 2008. I don't think we can do justice to the topic on this blog. Do a search on this blog to get caught up.
3. Good luck at the game this weekend. Normally, Packer fans are pretty cordial and accomodating (stress "normally"). This weekend's game is not normal. Showing up in Viking gear might not be such a good idea. (I hope I'm wrong).
4. Good luck getting your stadium deal through the legislature. With T-Paw at the helm, you've got about as much chance of getting funding as Bernie Madoff has of getting an invite to the Wall Street Investors Man of the Year Awards.

There would be some real worth to the above information if not for this fact: The jersey is a first-issue, which means it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the fans that already have a Tom Brady (or any other famous player's) jersey doesn't have to buy one.

Keeley2, Flying Saucer Fan?? lol, that's good. Anyways, Kleinsasserfan, I went to Packer games from 1958 to 1982. The Bears were the biggest rivalry, and we sat on the visitors side, 50 yrd line, in the middle section. It was always good fun, the Bears fans were always the most boisterous. It usally didn't get out of hand unless a drunken Bear fan got too ruley. Packer ticket holders don't usually get out of hand for fear of loosing their tickets with over 20,000 waiting in line to take them. I was lucky enough to sit in front of the legend Ray Nitchke for many years after his retiremnent and before his death. He was the true meaning of a Packer fan, not just a player, class all the way, so go enjoy the atmosphere, there's nothing like it in the world..yes , the world.

I've heard plenty from "true" Packer fans how one is supposed to comport oneself vis-a-vis Mr. Favre. Apparently, one cannot be a true Packer fan without sharing the emotions and fantasies of the Favre-haters. That's not really any different from some guy saying fans should not boo.

The Packers & Vikings play professional, for-money football, and high school notions of team-spirit & identity don't apply. Players switch teams.

Im sure if you do you will also see favre’s play slumpping at week 10 and throwing ints to win the game. must be wonderful to have won all those games and won the superbowl already without having played in them? so the kleinsasser the vikings already won sunday wow the game hasnt even been played. thats perception and reality 2 things you must learn. Did you not make it through high school? Perception is what you think is going to happen and reality is what has happened! thats reality or do you normally talk from your arse?"
Maybe you should go talk down to someone like your wife or child. I don't appreciate being treated that way. As for me calling you a kid it's because you need to grow up. You hurt your team because you're fanatical. I can spout stats but the only one that matters is what has happened.

You need to grow up take your own advice. If all you can do is say what has happened quit impling that you have already beat us before the game is played!

Kleinsasserfan, you differ from the Packers fans here as we are here, on CheeseheadTV, because it's an uber Packers fan blog, and we're Packers fans. Are any of us trolling the Vike's fan blogs? I'm sure as hell not. I still don't understand why you and Todd, etc., are here, other than to troll.

We cheer our team and boo their opponents. It sure isn't very fan-like to cheer our team's opponents in our team's stadium. That's not being a fan (short for fanatic) at all.

Hating on Favre is easy, after the drama of the last so many years, and the retirement/unretirement saga. If you think we're wrong, too bad. He's our psycho ex-girlfriend. He (she) wants to "key our cars." But enough of the psycho ex talk...he's also the visiting QB, so he's gonna get booed. That's just the way it is. That's just the way it should always be. Enjoy the game. And hopefully the loss. :^D

What seems to be forgotten in all of these comments is that Brett Favre owes more to Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren, The Green Bay Packers, and the Packers fan base than they owe him.
-
Fact: He was a drunk. I used to see him at the Cock and Bull on Main St. back in the early 90's. Partying like a rock star. This is after he got ran out of Atlanta (yes, I thought Wolf was foolish to trade a 1st for him.)
-
Fact: He was an interception machine for many years before he finally got it. he reverted to the high interception rates after Holmgren left.
-
Fact: He was an amazing quarterback who could turn nothing into something spectacular.
-
Fact: He was a junkie. His battle with his addiction to pain killers helped him grow up though.
-
Fact: He waffled about retirement for several years before he actually retired.
-
Try reading this to understand the thoughts and feelings of many Packer fans.
http://hesgotallkindsoftime.blogspot.com/2009/06/separating-legend-from-...
-
For the record, I was a Favre fan for years. Now I wonder if Favre was pushing around Sherman for many years. The fact that he tried to tell TT whom to get in Free Agency and whom to interview for coach just shows how out of control he had become. Did it start with TT or had he been doing it for years? Unfortunately, we'll probably never know because Sherman will never talk.
-
By the way, why did Shanahan get fired from Denver? Because he thought he could tell the GM what to do. The GM is in charge and no one man is bigger than the organization.

two years ago, his shitty playing against the Giants (i remember yelling inside of me PUT RODGERS IN!!!!) and that goddamn interception...that was the moment i was done with Favre. Sure the was the business side, but his ego and pride made this a bigger mess than it should. I used to love the man, now i dont care. He plays for the queens, he is now any other opposing player i want the D to put the smack on. Im glad i live in California, where it seems many writters see what see as fans (specially here in Fresno) where they refer to Favre as a traitor, not much to the organization that made him an idol, but to the fan base...im mexican so in tradition i bought candles with the virgin mary and everyday i pray to EL SANTO CLAY MATHEWS to lay a nice ass whopping cometh sunday! PackerFan4Life, yeah, I was the one calling you a kid first. When you talk down to people regardless of their team preference you're acting like someone that needs to take a step back and realize that you yourself sound like the Neanderthal. You questioned if I finished high school, classy. Then continued to used sarcasm in a sophomoric at best satirical fashion. This is why I compared you to a child. This is why I told you to grow up. I explained myself before and I don't think you understood. I'm glad I clarified that for you once again.
Good luck on Sunday 4Life

Since my comments were moderated during the Sunday game chat(for no apparent real reasoning), then I would assume that Aaron or Corey would do the same to these Viking fans. I mean all they are here for is to pick fights anyway.
Pandering to Viking fans, and alienating Packer fans, kind of arse backwards don't you think?

In the end, I root for the laundry and my laundry is green and gold. The people wearing it come and go. Sometimes we're stuck cheering for Jim Del Gaizo, sometimes Brent Favre. It is those that went before that give the green and gold its meaning for me.

I was rewarded in the 90's for being a fan in the 70's. those who stuck by the teams in the 50's were rewarded greatly in the 60's. Visiting the Packet HOF this summer, it is easy to see why I have this affinity for the Pack. They are Wisconsin. They work hard. play by the rules and win (sometimes).

Part of it is Hudson, Lombardi, and Reggie, but another part of it is my grandfather cheered them, my father cheered them, my brother and I put on the jersey and the pastic helmets in the backyard and now my kids are shareholders. We've had Milwaukee/gold package season tickets since as long as I can remember. I pity other fans of other teams that don't have this kind of history.

Favre brought me some excellent memories. The childish breakup will fade for me over time. But right now he wears someone else's laundry and by God he's coming into my house and trying to take something that belongs to me! If I were lucky enough to be at Lambeau on Sunday I would boo as loud as possible every time the purple #4 touched the ball. I expect my proxies to do the same in my absence.

Favre is not the Packers. Never was. Just a nice part of something much bigger than he. And I expect that full weight of the Packer aura and the current wearers of my beloved green and gold to crush him deep into the heating coils of the once frozen tundra. And the collective roar of the fans at Lambeau, the fans across the country, and the fans looking down from their rightful place in heaven will cause the norsemen to turn tail and cower back to the safety of their climate-controlled home. Amen.

So by me telling you that you were out of place makes me not classy? wow where do you get this stuff? If you dont like the way I talk, the way we are fanatical about OUR team then leave. No one asked you to come in here and no one sure as hell is keeping you from going. Make sure to not let the door hit you on the way out. Im sure that will be childish too in your eyes. Of all the articles about Brent I've read in the last couple years (and believe me I've read a lot) this is the most disgusting. Brent couldn't care less about the Pack, and, Honestly Brent, we couldn't care less about you. Earlier in the season, Brent said that the Vikings were "the best team I've ever played on." how can a Packer fan hear those words and cheer for the guy on Sunday. It's mind-boggling how massive and inflated Brent's ego is, and I hope he throws ten picks against the Pack. In my opinion, Packers fans shoul not go over board on Brent, just treat him like any other Viking and he will realize that, at least in Packer Nation, his selfish ego will get him nowhere. I know I said I was done with Brent, but this is just too much.

This is classic - (referring to TT) "Is he above .500 yet, jackasses?". Evidently Pack 66's mind has erased 07 like a Pats fan does Superbowl 42.

Aaron (you brought me over here from the 'mayor' post). I admit, you make a good point - no one should tell the fans what they should do. How about a plea? There are many of us (maybe half; maybe a minority), who don't hate Favre. We will also be at the game. Give us our two minutes as Favre comes out of the tunnel to thank him for what he did for Green Bay the 1st 17 years. If Favre is as evil as the haters portray him to be, he won't care about being boo'd by Packers fans. However, it will ruin the experience for those of cheering. Please hold off on the boo's for those few moments. Once the game starts, have at it. I'll be busy cheering for the Pack to beat Minnesota.

backthepack4, once you and the teams are in the stadium, you are either supporting the Packers or you aren't. Having it both ways sends the wrong message to the Packers players that are going to give their all to win. If you don't want to boo Brent, you also have the option of remaining silent when he takes first takes the field. Just my two cents...

Favre is a big boy. He CHOSE to play with the Vikings, as did others. He will come with the intent of beating the Pack, taking the division from our favorite team. See Butler. He should expect no better than to get the treatment reserved for an opponent.
I hope the cheers will be deafening for the Pack.

13. washed-up male models with coke habits and breath that smells of liver pate.
14. centipedes who escape my swatting.

First of all, I'm a born and raised Packer fan transplanted by employment to Texas in 2002. I grew up with Lombardi for his whole stint in GB, went through the dark ages of the 70's and 80's and here is my take on this whole Brent issue. In my opinion Favre had better fall on his knees and give thanks every morning for Ron Wolf and Mike Holmgren. Here's why. I absolutely believe that if it were not for Wolf putting him next to Holmgren in 92, Favre would have been out of the league by 2000. Holmgren is fully responsible for reining in that cocky, drunken, undisciplined player and taking him to the Superbowl. When Holmgren left the Packers, Favre did not win one more thing, he just rode his Gunslinger image, thanks in great part to the media. Favre is a media delight, because he is polarizing. But Favre is no where near the caliber of winner like Starr, Unitas, Montana, Elway, Brady, and even Peyton Manning. He's a player whose ego is greater than his talent. All that BS prior to the last MN game that Favre had beaten every team except the Packers. BS. He beat the Packers many times over the years. How many seasons did he end with his gunslinging to the opposing DB's? I lost all respect for him years ago, when his ego reared it's ugly head. He cost Sherman his job, (granted Sherman sucked as GM but he was a decent coach), he cost Mangini his gig last year. Unfortunately he will cost Childress his job this year as well when the Vikes crash and burn the last half of the season as usual. Childress is such a stupid and arrogant and lousy coach the Vikes might actually hire someone talented to replace him and that wouldn't be good.

Austin,

This is the kind of crap that makes America hate the Packers and their fans.

Their sour grape bull****, and twisting the facts to write their own bitter re-visionist history regarding Brett Favre and the Packers..

You guys are so twisted that you can't stand a player who gets National attention. You turn on him, even before he left, because of your self-loathing and hatred of anyone in the lime-light.

Favre isn't a winner?

He has the NFL RECORD for winning the most games as a starting QB? What do you call that?

Don't get all "moralistic" on us. Hornung, McGee, and others were drunken louts, womanizers, and profligate gamblers to the extent that they make Favre look like a choirboy. The only difference is that you didn't hear about it.

That's what I hate about Packer fans. Their "holier-than-thou" attitudes towards everyone else.

That's why I hope Favre gives you the beat down that you deserve this week, so you can have your serving of humble pie, which you desperately need..apparently.

Pack66. It's amazing how completely you've missed the point. First of all, you talk about Pack fans as if you weren't one, so why do you pretend to be one. Next, let me explain why were mad at Brent. When the Pack said that Brent would not be playing for them anymore, any QB-lacking team would have been happy to have him, but Brent demanded to be traded to the Vikings just so he could get "revenge" on the Pack. The reasons that you stated simply don't make any sense. Why would we hate someone for being famous?
Anyone who will be at the game boo Brent for me.

Packers..

It is not I who "missed the boat", but you, and everyone who thinks like you.

How can you not see that you, TT, and all the Packer brass didn't want Favre anymore. Ok..fine. Misguided and wrong headed, but fine.

So, Favre still wants to play football. What is supposed to do? Go to the K.C. Chefs or some other losing franchise to make YOU and Ted Thompson happy?

I don't think so.

He wanted to go where he could "win" football games and a place that was familiar. That would be Minnesota..

The fact that you guys are acting like a bunch of whiny babies is hysterical...Especially when Favre beats you.

And yes, I want the PACKERS to lose just like a fan might want his team to lose when they have bad record, to get a higher draft pick so his team can get better.

Well, I want the Pack to lose so that they can FIRE THAT INCOMPETENT SNAKE, TED THOMPSON, so that my team, the GREEN BAY PACKERS can get better and start to heal...

No. The Packer's management didn't want Favre back anymore because when he finally decided that he eanted to play, the team had been working with Aaron Rodgers for a month. What kind of meessage would that send to the team if they suddenly backed out on Aaron and set the team's preparation back just so they could accomodate one player. A football team is not made by one player and Ted acted with the team's future in mind, not it's present. In a few years, Brett will be retired and Aaron Rodgers will only have improved. Who do you think will be at the top of the NFC North then?
