Jolly's Court Date (Finally) Set

Green Bay Packers defensive end Johnny Jolly will have his day in court on felony drug possession charges on May 21st. Or maybe he won't.

Per Greg Bedard (who really is the only one you should be paying attention to on this. He's owned this story from the start) comes the words we've all been waiting to hear. That's right Packer fans! Johnny Jolly will be in front of a judge and what I do not doubt will be a jury made up of his true peers.

From Bedard:

A Harris County (Texas) judge set May 21 as the date Jolly will have a jury trial on charges his possessed at least 200 grams of codeine during a traffic stop on July 8, 2008.

If convicted, Jolly could face up to 20 years in prison. But since he has no record, he could be given only probation.

Am I a prophet or what?

So far his lawyer has been very adept at extending the trial date further and further into the future. I expect that since the "new" evidence was based on new technology that tactic will bear fruit again. If not, we can just make beieve he's one of the Williams twins and is exempt from all forms of punishment.

Hope he gets a good lawyer. Because this is a really, really weak case.

Do you mean weak as the prosecution sees it, or that Jolly's defense is weak? I thought that the felony part of the prosecution is likely very weak, provided that the new equipment can accurately measure the percentage of codeine. If Jolly is right, the percentage of codeine is low and will easily place the actual amount of the drug below the minimum to be a felony.

Wow, Bedard owns the story. I guess someone has to clean the toilets too.

Think your right Ruppert, the 200 grams included the soda it was in, not just the drugs. New machines will hopefully dicern the codeine from the soft drink
