I dont care what team it is... i dont care if its an Arena Football team. A man that big, getting out in the flat that fast, against a running back half his size is freakin special. If he can match that in the regular season, hes got that end spot on lock.

regardless of whether or not he makes that tackle on a regular basis... he's still limiting the running backs options out there and ultimately would be scaring OC's to play to the other side. If he can bring that, and Cullen returns to his dominance this defense can't do anything but work.

Wow. All the brent talk really shook both you and Bedard. Finally some positive opinion. And IMO he was the best surprise from that game. Yeah, Bishop played very well. So did the 1st team OL. But Jolly gave me much needed hope. We need at least 4 good players on that DL for the D to work properly. I'm not worried about Jenkins, nor Pickett. If Jolly can repeat against the Bills, or at least play well, we have 3. Raji will probably be a very good backup in his rookie year. Then the only real troubled position on our D will be the OLB opposite Kampman. Someone will need to step up in there.

Monty made a nice backside tackle in the first series too.

I thought the D-line as a whole played well Saturday. I thought Montgomery played well, but i'm still unsure on him.

Jarius Wynn is playing well too.

Have to admit that Jolly did make some nice moves, it is the wait and see if it can happen in real ball

RockingRodgers: So I'm not the only one that liked Wynn's play last Sunday. At least for a backup, that is clearly a work in progress, has changed weight very recently, and never took a snap in the NFL, and took only a few in college.
But Brian at RBC (http://community.sportsbubbler.com/blogs/railbird_central/archive/2009/0...) made the best comment about the DL position: "I like the Holliday option better than Michael Montgomery, that's for sure. "

I like Kevin Carter, but it looks like he might retire. Vonnie would add some nice depth and exp.

I think it was early in '07 our D-line dominated and Jolly was really impressive. If he's back to that form Packer fans will be very happy.

Since the early stages of 2008, Jolly has been one of the top D Linemen for GB. If this trend continues, he could be Pro-Bowl material. No legal issues are expected until after the season. Great speed for a 300 pounder. Is playing aggressively. Pickett, Jenkins and, hopefully, Raji have the makings of a very good front line crew.

The rest of the DL roster is questionable at best. Harrell is looking more and more questionable. Montgomery was trapped multiple times against Cleveland and he wasn't against Thomas. Mallone has no game experience to speak of. Talley, Toribio, Muhtadi, and Wynn are rookies so who knows? So, yes, a good veteran pickup for a year would be a good move.

I agree with you Aaron. Both from a business and football perspective, cutting Montgomery and signing Holliday could be a very good option. But TT NEVER opts to get an FA if he thinks the guy won't be a big improvement over what we have. He's very conservative with team chemistry, he won't cut players and bring in veteran ones just because the veteran is a little better.

I was hoping Alfred Malone would step up and be a playmaker this offseason. Players are always talking about his strength and incredibly long arms. Seems like he has the potential to do something but seems his training camp has been quiet.

Wynn's got a future in the league. He might be a little undersized right now, but I think he can at least contribute to the rotation. With an offseason under his belt, he should really improve.
I've always liked Jolly. I also think the legal case against him was very weak. Remember, he was very good before the shoulder injury. Last year that still bothered him. If he's returning to form, he could be very good. He bats down alot of passes at the los.

No real shocker with Jolly, it was just a matter of him fully recovering from injury. I don't believe he was ever really 100% last season. The kid has shown that he's an athletic, powerful DT, and the coaching staff has always been excited about his potential. I certainly hope his ankle holds up and his legal issues subside. He could be a play maker.

Depth will be key to this year's DL and Jolly's a big part of that. Let's hope the coaches were playing it safe with him in camp.

Dont forget about Big Sexy Cullen Jenkins. If he is on, it matters little who is opposite his prowess. Fools tread here.
