John Kuhn Wins At Life

The Packers fullback made one 10-year-old's dream come true last week and we barely heard or read about it. Let's fix that, shall we?

During the barrage of negative publicity surrounding the Packers, this story about John Kuhn making one little boy's dream come true kind of slipped under the radar. That's a damn shame, because it's just a fantastic story. From the team's website:

On a gloomy and rainy afternoon, 10-year-old Colton Brandenberg's smile lit up the inside of a limousine at Best Buy when Packers' fullback John Kuhn opened the door. His one wish was to spend a night shopping and dining with his favorite Packers player, and it came true on Monday.

With assistance from Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Green Bay Packers' community outreach department, young Colton spent 90 minutes inside Best Buy shopping for his favorite video games and CDs, among other items, before enjoying a meal at the nearby Texas Roadhouse. Kuhn also presented Colton with a bag of Packers related autographed items.

"It was awesome," Colton said after shopping with the five-year NFL veteran.

Read the whole thing. Awesome indeed.

"The media" is just a business. Stop clicking the links to go to stories about players screwing up. Stop watching the news when a story like this comes on the air. Don't buy a newspaper that leads their front page with it.

They only push these stories out and feature them so much because it brings in ad revenue. If "bad news" weren't in high demand, they would be up there. The media doesn't evilly plot on how to bring the worst stories in the world to light, it evilly plots on how to make the most money.

We're we're much more to blame for the supposed problems of "the media" if we keep giving the demand for those types of "bad news."

"We got the bubbleheaded bleach-blonde, comes on at 5
She can tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet?
You know the boys in the newsroom got a running bet
Get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough alone, keep your dirty laundry"

That should do 'er!

LOVE that song. He opened with it when I saw him and Sting together back in the early 90s. Great show and an underrated songwriter.

I challenge anyone to not nod their head to that beat. Great tune. And really great lyrics. As a kid I just dug the beat, but man, the lyrics are spot-on if you really 'listen'.

"I just have to look good I don't have to be clear" pretty much sums up the state of the media today...and he wrote it in the early 80s!

My personal favorite verse:

"We can do the innuendo, we can dance and sing
When it's said and done, we haven't told you a thing
We all know that crap is king, give us dirty laundry"

I really look at those Lyrics and laugh. Just because they're so spot on. Like you said, this shit is from the EIGHTIES, yet it still rings true. I don't know if that's super ironic or super sad...

Well, you have great taste in Football teams and Music. Kudos.

I'm off to bed... nights SUCK!

For some reason i really have had a good image about our Fullbacks and yes even if we HAVE to have 3 on the roster. Good thing this fella is contributing with a cause with purpose.

And speaking about good causes, i think this one will interest you Aaron. Speed Gamers is supporting "ACT today" with a week-long video game marathon.

It's stories like these that make you believe "Packer People" is more than just words. Good show, Aaron.

This is a good story. Kuhn has always been a player that I have liked on the field and it is nice to know that he is as great of a guy offline as he is online.
