Expectations coming into the season:  Aside from the odd Mike McCarthy impulse to have John Kuhn commit an act of "fullback dive" at the goal line, Kuhn is built to block. When the line has issues, Kuhn comes in to protect Rodgers, especially when the offense shifts from a two tight end set. Kuhn also will block for running backs as well.

Player’s highlights/low-lights: In Week 15 against the Oakland Raiders trucked cornerback TJ Carrie as he scored. On the downside, Kuhn struggled mightily pass blocking against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.

Level of Expectations met:  While there were occasional lapses, Kuhn played well most of the time. He is mostly effective on those fullback dives and was able to fill in on a carry or two during games as well when James Starks and Eddie Lacy were either hurt or winded. He saw more use later in the season, while early on he rarely saw the field.

Grade: B

Player’s contributions to team success:  There were times when he helped out immensely as the offensive line had issues off and on throughout the season, but he was also only on the field for 27 percent of the offensive snaps, which limits his impact. At the end of the day a fair argument can be made that his value to the Packers within the confines of game plan is minimal.

Grade: C

Player’s contributions in the playoffs:  Kuhn played well against Washington, almost exclusively as a blocker. He struggled a little against the Cardinals. In both cases he was only on for a minimal amount of offensive snaps.

Grade: C

Intangibles/misc: Kuhn is obviously beloved by the fans and relatively popular among the players. He's certainly a leader, although given that he is only on the field minimally, how much impact he has in that area can be debated.

Grade: B

Overall Grade:  B-

I've been writing Kuhn off for years. Then he makes the team again. Hope I didn't just jinx him....

Two fullbacks on the roster again next year? I doubt it. Either Rip has proven he can punt Kuhn off the 53 or he'll be replaced by a undrafted free agent at a more pressing position next fall. i.e. - he is either the long term answer at FB or he is expendable.

I thought Kuhn played okay, but perhaps some minor decline can be seen. I agree with the grades. No harm in giving him another qualified contract (i.e. less than $80K guaranteed) and letting Kuhn and Ripkowski battle it out.

I believe if more two-back sets were used in the running attack we would see kuhns grades even higher.

While Ripkowski gets a B, Kuhn who plays in the Pro Bowl game only gets a B-. I don't get it! Something wrong with Andrew Garda's head?
