Jeremy Thompson Released

The Packers have released linebacker Jeremy Thompson.

The Packers have released linebacker Jeremy Thompson.

Thompson in a statement via the Packers:

I have consulted with a number of physicians, and due to my medical condition my intention is to retire from football. I am thankful to the Packers organization and to the fans for their support during my time in Green Bay. The Packers are a first-class organization and I want to thank them for the opportunity to play in the NFL. There truly is no team I would have rather played for.

Thompson was injured in practice last year when he collided with Kregg Lumpkin in a drill. It was the most recent in a series of neck problems Thompson has had since entering the NFL.

The best for him, but this sucks.

I know he didn't play with the required mentality, but I though he had the athleticism to make a fine OLB...

Now we're even thinner at the position...

I remember the interview with Lumpkin after it happened. He was visibly shaken up; must have been a scary experience.

Tough break, but from what it sounds like he can lead a full and active life away from the football field. A lot more than most can say after multiple neck/spinal injuries. Seems like he made the better decision.

What a disappointing story. Best of luck to him in the future.

That sucks,
I was really hoping to see him rush opposite CM3.
Class act and good player when he got to play, I hate to see him go.

Hopefully good fortune and great sucess await him elsewhere.

Really disappointing. Was really looking forward to seeing what this guy could do. Good choice though on his part. I'd much rather see him walk away and have a good long life. Glad he enjoyed his time with the Packers.

Too bad for Thompsion. I hate to a serious injury take a good guy out of the picture. Capers needs to look at his LB depth chart and see what he needs to do.

I was thinking the same thing, Flatty. If the price is right, pull the trigger. Bus or no Bus, RS. We need f'ing bodies, dude. 2 time pro-bowler, could bring some much needed depth/competition to the OLB group.

I would expect Ted to give this a long, hard, look. It might make everyone forget he passed on Hughes AND Kindle (for a minute, anyway).

Kind of a surprise, last I heard they were confident in his return. Wish him the best.

Right side: Clay, Chillar, Havner, Poppinga
Left side: Jones, Obiozor, Havner, Poppinga

Maybe some of those undrafted FAs can unseat the lower end of our depth chart.

Man, I don't feel great about that depth chart, Nerdmann.

I have hope for Obi (that's all it is though, hope, he's never 'SHOWN' me anything yet), Brady is pretty much worthless, Havner's future (if he has one) appears to be @ TE. And I don't care what anybody says, Brandon Chillar ain't no OLB in the 34.

Pick up the phone Ted. Adalius is waiting.

I put Havner on there in front of Poppinga as a joke. Originally.

I like Peprah. He's no Nick Collins, but he's no Jarrett Bush either. I think he's solid. He can be in position and he can play the ball. He would have been invaluable vs the Steelers and Cards last year. We were signing DBs off the street.
Peprah is not a scrub.

I don't see it...

Yeah, he's no Bush. Who is?

Simple-minded, but if he was a player, he would've contented for a spot during the time he was here (3 seasons, if I'm not wrong).

All I know is we put Rouse in front of him, when Bigby went down...

He's no all pro, but he can get the job done. Solid backup. Better than the scrubs we were pulling off the street late last season. By far.

Thompson had the same condition as Murphy. No surprise here. TT sure has some bad luck drafting guys who have their spines deteriorate on them.

Thompson has had some bad luck with drafting guys who get spinal injuries. Terrance Murphy had the potential to be special.
