Jennings Rips 2008 Defense

There have been various charitable endeavors headed up by various Packers players over the course of the last week, the most visible of which has to be Driver’s softball game (I went when Favre was still hosting several years ago – a great afternoon for any Packers fan) Most if not all the coverage of these events is pretty straightforward, if not downright banal, complete with quotations from various players about the importance of ‘giving back’ etc.

But lost amidst the shuffle of good vibes was a radio interview with Greg Jennings from his charitable golf tournament, where Jennings, responding to a question about the differences he sees on the defensive side of the ball, basically says that the defense will blitz, unlike last year when it never did, according to Jennings. He quickly backtracks, saying that it’s a joke and backpedals faster than the corners that try to cover him, but by then, the point has been made.

Now, is this earth-shattering stuff? Hardly. But it’s the first time I can recall a member of the offense expressing any public displeasure with last years defense. Usually this stuff is couched in “We had problems on the defensive side, sure, but we struggled as a team” etc. This was much more than that.

Of course, had Favre said this a couple years ago (as he did with Javon Walker, Wil Whittaker) it would be blown up in the media. I doubt it will be with Jennings, nor should it be. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to decipher that the defense was the issue last year.

I love the Podcast player they have…I listened to the Rodgers interview…he doesn’t even talk about the team right now..

  3. Jayme says:

Apparently he didn’t believe that Bob Sanders took us the rest of the way.

  4. IronMan says:

Our blitzes weren’t effective last year?

In related news, ice is cold, and boobs are good.

Jayme – ahhh, but see, Sanders DID bring them the rest of the way – by being so inept and getting fired and forcing them to bring in Capers.

THAT is what I meant of course… ;)

  6. [...] Nice catch by Cheesehead TV finding this interview with wide receiver Greg Jennings by a Milwaukee ESPN Radio affiliate. Aaron Nagler writes, "Responding to a question about the differences he sees on the defensive side of the ball, basically says that the defense will blitz, unlike last year when it never did, according to Jennings. He quickly backtracks, saying that it’s a joke and backpedals faster than the corners that try to cover him, but by then, the point has been made." [...]
