James Jones Says He'd "Love" to Play in Carolina

After the Carolina Panthers released Steve Smith and lost other receivers last week, their wide out corps was decimated. None of the current wide receivers on their roster have ever caught an NFL pass.

James Jones spoke with ESPN's Josina Anderson expressing interest in playing for Carolina.

Per an ESPN report by David Newton,

James Jones said "that he would 'love the opportunity to play for the Carolina Panthers' and quarterback Cam Newton."

This is Jones' second time testing the free agency market. The first time around, Jones ended up re-signing with the Packers after drawing little outside interest. The market has been quiet for Jones this time as well, but he is on the Panthers radar.

I was curious when Jones re-signed last time and found a JS article from July 31 announcing his return....did he really sit out there that long last time??

As for Carolina, they desperately need WRs so it makes sense. But as for a fit for Jones, if he has to carry the load, I don't think he can do that. Ideally, he'd go to a team with an established number 1.

Detroit made a ton of sense and I'm glad he didn't go there. SF or Sea would also make sense. Cleveland, next to Josh Gordon...Jets next to Decker...there are lots of places where he'd shine.

I can't believe he's still out there.

Remember that last time there was a lockout until late July. If I remember correctly everybody signed and went to camp pretty quickly. JJ probably didn't miss anything at all.

I think this is shaping up like a normal. year. A bunch of big names get signed in the first week. Then it slows down a lot. A whole lot.

Oh, right...the lockout. Thanks.

I thought it was nuts he would have sat out there for nearly 5 months.

It wouldn't have been nuts. Nobody wanted him then or now.

I actually feel bad for the guy. He's trying to create his own buzz by announcing he'd like to play for a team that's desperate for wide receivers.
:sigh:

Why isn't Greg Jennings publicly lobbying for JJ in Minnesota?

Evan, I read on another blog, that JJ was offered a 2 year deal in GB at 5 Mill. I've never heard anything like that. Have you? I doubt it's true, but I did read it. Hope it is!!

I haven't seen anything about that. I like the length, but $5 mil per year? That seems a little rich for the Packers right now. $5 mil total? Then, yeah, in a heartbeat. But I imagine he can and should get more than that.

If he was going to get much more then that, don't you think he would have already though?

Can you post a link to the blog? Since cheeseheadtv monitors stuff like that, I find it incredulous.

James Jones has been a class act. I expect someone will be willing to pay more than the Packers probably want to. I would really like to see him come back but I think he's gone.

Raiders just signed Jones.

I would like to wish James the best of luck. Class Act guy.

Last summer I got a chance to meet his mother and his son. Great family. Good luck James.

Hey maybe the Raiders by the end of next season would be wishing he was playing in Carolina. Toward the end of the season he had dbacks drapped all over him. He lost more than a step. This guy is no longer a deep threat. I think we will be glad he is gone and I liked the guy. One of my favorites but time to move on baby.

He had 2 big drops against SF. I think it sealed his fate in GB. Everyone liked James Jones. Nice guys finish last.
