James Jones Has Yet to Practice for the Packers Since Knee Injury

The veteran Packers wide receiver did not take part in Packers practice on Thursday.

The biggest news and perhaps the biggest disappointment coming out of Packers practice on Thursday was that wide receiver James Jones failed to take part.

Jones has been missing since first injuring his knee Week 6 at Baltimore. Head coach Mike McCarthy said last week that Jones' injury would keep him out two to three weeks. He's already missed two weeks. This would be the third.

Linebacker Nick Perry actually practiced last Friday before being withheld from last Sunday's game against the Vikings, so to not practice on Thursday also comes as a let-down. However, the Packers could just be erring on the side of caution and taking things slow with Perry.

The good news is that linebacker Brad Jones was a full participant in practice after being limited both Thursday and Friday last week. He would appear likely to return for the Bears game this Monday.

Tight end Ryan Taylor also returned to practice for the first time since undergoing minor knee surgery back on Oct. 16, making it perhaps likely that he could return for Monday Night Football as well.

Do they shift the schedule by a day during MNF weeks? I'd say there is still a good chance that he plays if he practices tomorrow, and if Saturday is treated as the "Friday" then I'm still feeling that there is a chance for him to play.

James Jones still has tomorrow and Saturday, and they are blessed with the latest game possible this week. I bet he plays.

I wouldn't say pissed. All he can do is give the coaches reasons to play him and I think he's done that and more.

How in the heck do any of us, based on what MM spills, know that Mathews is out another 5 weeks, Jones is done for the season and needs surgery and Perry may be back in four weeks.

We know nothing except this. MM track record is to downplay injuries. If he says three weeks your better double that. If a guy ain't practicing on Thursday, put a fork in him.

Saying that the bears without Cutler is an easy win is stupid. Oldest rivalry in football. One of the better WRs in football. A damn good rb, and a defense that wants to win bad. Yup...cakewalk.

Well I think you are just as stupid to think we won't easily win this one. I can say this because I actually did alot of research the past couple days. I went over stats of both teams etc. All signs point to a easy victory for the Packers despite your worries. I am telling you right now that Jones should not play because they won't need him. If you don't want to believe me that's fine but they'll win going away rivalry game or no rivalry game. Calm down Hayward. We are also at home too.

I have no problem with anyone asking about my secret formula. In fact I was anticipating it. It just doesn't make fiscal sense for me to do so. Does Coke give it's formula to the public?

Just be happy Mark knowing that this game against the Bears will be an easy win. The Bears will be no match for the Packers. You heard it here first.

Just trying to give a little back to some of you guys here. There's a ton of great fans here but there's also a few morons that shouldn't even deserve me telling you this info.

A rivalry game is a rivalry game period....any given Sunday ( or monday) a team has a shot especially in a game like this. The two crosstown rivals in my town despise eachother.I have seen one of the schools' only wins on the entire season be against the other school. Why? Because.....teams just bring a little extra sumthin sumthin to games like this. For chr#st sakes ...its the oldest rivalry in football!

We win if we don't turn the ball over. The "rock" mentioned this on the radio but everyone who handles the ball needs to be damn sure they tuck it away and hang on tight!!! The make a living off of the strip. GB 42. Bears 17

I don't think the hatred is there between these two franchises. Brotherly anger maybe but two teams worthy of respect by the way they go about their business. Living in Chicago I just didn't see the hate of the packers that you may like to think

There really is little hatred with rivalrys anymore. You can blame the politically correct society we live in the past 20 plus years now and technology.

These 20 to 30 year olds were taught to say only nice things. They also know anything said will hit this damn Twitter whatever the hell that is within 2 seconds of saying it even if they are just joking and everyone will be "offended". (see Finley, Barnett, and Greg Jennings and how it got them in trouble the past couple seasons)

Most players and people in general are now taught to just put on a fake smile and pretend they like everybody and never ever say anything bad or negative. Keep it inside at all costs.

Gone are the days of Dan Hampton flipping off an entire state (WI)and actually wanting the media to report what he said. That's what made for a great rivalry... Honesty and true hatred!! Those days are pretty much gone because nobody is supposed to "hate" and nobody is honest. Just look at how our President lies. It's now the norm.

Just listen to Aaron Rodgers speak. He loves everyone and communicates with a ton of rival players thru the internet and these damn smart phones that are spacing out most Americans so they are all friends even in the offseason. That didn't go on back in the day I tell you what. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I doubt you'll see a Charles Martin or Ken Stills episode Monday night.

No win is an easy win. It's the bears. Their coach is motivated, and they are sick of getting housed by the packers. That said, I'm predicting a 45 -10 win. 12 throws for > 300, Lacy $1.20, Haward gets a pick six, Hyde brings another back, and Datone-2 sax. Right?

Simple game plan: run the ball 30+ times. Bears can't stop the run. An easy day at the office for AR. Keep pounding them and the safeties will keep moving closer and closer. Play action down the middle. This Bears defense is a shadow of its former intimidating self.

Looking at my secret stat source (espn.com, but now you owe me a dollar for knowing my trade secret) the Bears seem to be pretty average in their run defense, and have generated a league-leading seven fumbles (but only 3 were recovered by the Bears, so they are tied for second there). Lance Briggs going out will probably make the Bears even worse, but then again we all would have expected a step back from Brad Jones when Lattimore came in, and that did not happen. They ain't who they used to be, but they ain't Jacksonville either. I'd hate to see Franklin taking a bunch of snaps against them.

Bottom line - I would agree with you, but I've never respected their Secondary as much as I should, and their pass D stats are lower than their run D so far this year. The Packers will run it 30 times, heck they ran it more than that against the Vikings, but I think it is more a function of their new identity than a reflection on the Bears being weaker against the run than the pass.

As long as I'm awake and wandering around my secret stat room, let me throw this out. The Packers have allowed 17 sacks this year, 22nd in the league (Miami leads, allowing 35). This is a big improvement over prior years BUT the Packers are also only 23rd in the league this year in passing attempts. Meaning that maybe the reduced number of sacks has less to do with the line protecting better, and a lot more to do with having to throw the ball less.

Here's the real kicker, which shows why the Packers are so dangerous right now, even with the receiving corps shredded by injuries. The Packers are leading the league in yards per passing attempt at 8.8. I still don't back off the proposition that #12 had an injury affecting his accuracy for a couple of games this season, but then that only makes this achievement that much more incredible. Rodgers being more efficient than everyone else, plus a viable running game, plus the ability to switch out plays at will, equals an offense that is going to be impossible to stop, once they get the red zone kinks worked out. And unlike the prior unstoppable versions of this offense, this version does not allow opposing Ds to tee off and beat up the quarterback. And it also has the potential to eat the clock at will, giving the defense more rest and making them look a lot better than they have in recent years, even with the LB corps shredded by injuries.

This may be a passing league now, but the Packers are proving this year that it sure pays to have a running game.
