Its All Jim Rome\’s Fault The Media Sucks

Tundra Vision goes for the media jugular. Excellent Tuesday morning read.
It’s fun to watch this video before you read it.
Of course we really appreciate this:
If you’re looking for today’s news with some biting commentary or a rimshot, check out the boys at CheeseheadTV, who are just as insightful (and occasionally snarky) as anyone making seven figures at ESPN.

What do you call 5 sports reporters found at the bottom of Lake Winnebago??
A great start.
_____
I grew up watching Al Sampson report out of GB on both national & local sports inclu. the Pack. Back then, as a sports reporter, you didn’t even hint at having a personality. You basically had 2 spots a day each being about 7 minutes long where you read AP reports over the air.
_____
The world is different today. How do you fill 24 hours seven days a week without interjecting something to draw & keep viewers?? You can only loop your programming so many times before everyone has scattered & disappeared.
_____
I’m not defending sports writers. Personally, I have more respect for ‘someone who writes a sit-com’.
The real problem, IMO, is too much time, too little content.
I hope JIM Everett laid a couple good ones on the big mouth. He deserves every shot he gets.
Wait…wasnt Al Sampson the guy who did the RedWing Boots commercials up there in GB back in the 70`s and early 80`s? Didnt he call himself “Big Al Sampson”?

_____
“Allen “Big Al” Sampson was a longtime reporter, photographer and sports director, first with WBAY-TV 2 and later with WLUK-TV 11.”
_____
“Sampson was producer and co-host of “The Vince Lombardi Show,” believed to be the first weekly NFL coach’s program, and the voice of Packers pre-season football during the 1960s. Sampson passed away in August 2002.”
“I hope JIM Everett laid a couple good ones on the big mouth. He deserves every shot he gets.”
You obviously don’t know the whole story.
About a year ago Rome had his friend Mark Shapiro (no, NOT the Indian’s GM) on his radio show, who was the producer of the “Talk 2″ program. They recalled how the whole thing went down.
Before Everett went on set, he knew Rome had been calling him Chris and didn’t like it. Shapiro warned Everett that Rome was going to call him Chris a couple of times on set. If Everett had a problem with that, they would scrap the segment and not do it. Everett assured him that he would be cool about it. Despite those assurances, he went ape on set, and we all know what happened next.
After it went down, Shapiro asked Everett what happened, reminding him that he knew it was coming. Everett was all flustered and apologized, saying he knew, but he just snapped and he was sorry.
Its not like Rome blindsided him on set with that. An NFL player has to be able to be cool under pressure and not let name-calling get under his skin. Sounds like “Chris” suits him to a “T”!!
Living out here I have had to put up with the crap Rome calls smack. Only a little spoiled brat who could NEVER play resorted to talking trash for a living. Other than that mouth of his Rome offers nothing to sport. Yes, he gets interviews because of his media driven persona but thats all little “Jimmy” has to add. Also because of him and his ilk we as sports officials have to put up with more unsportsmanlike trash talking because of its supposed “appeal” and who’s got “game”. I like watching Everett go pound on him because his bluff got called. Yes, it isn’t PC or correct but putting the punk in his place
was fun.
Rome was entertaining for about 30 seconds.
ACDC, I did a pretty thorough search for anything conclusive on that fight being a setup, and I found nothing other than suspicions and repeated denials (and feined regret) from Rome.
However, if Rome did elect to stage the fight in order to self-promote himself and his show, at the cost of further denigrating the reputation of the athlete involved, wouldn’t that make Rome’s integrity fall even further?
