That’s how Ryan Grant explains not signing his one year tender and getting his butt on the practice field. Thanks to Greg Bedard for reporting the quote as it was actually uttered, as opposed to Tom Pelissero who editorializes the comment to make it appear that Grant has a grasp on the English language….though it’s understood Bedard is posting to a blog, and therefore unrestrained by proper journalistic etiquette. (I never understood the need to ‘clean up’ the brutalization of the English language professional sports stars treat us to, thereby robbing us of unintended hilarity.)
As for the real issue at hand, namely Grants contract, or lack of one, I am firmly with the Packers on this one. What leverage does Grant have? Sure, he was fantastic for 9 games or so. But he’s a system back, not an amazing, once in a lifetime talent. He’s earned a slight raise, sure. But sign the damn tender and get working with your new QB. The sad thing is that this move is so transparently his agents’ grab for the biggest paycheck possible before Grant has to step back on the field. But if Grant holds out, Thompson will just trade for another guy we’ve never heard of at the end of training camp who will step in by Week 8 and lead the league in rushing. (I exaggerate. Slightly.)
