The Packers released Koren Robinson today, as many expected after the draft.
Can’t say I’m surpised at all, especially after the way he played in the playoffs. He has lost most of his quickness and his knee was clearly bothering him. He had become a favorite target of Favre’s, to the detriment of the offense in my opinion. The drafting of Nelson basically sealed his fate, again, as many others had speculated.
I will say, I’ve read various message boards and comment sections and am shocked at how deluded some Packer fans are about Robinson’s perceived value, wondering why the Packers would cut him without at least trying to trade him. They still see him as a former first-rounder with untapped potential, when in reality he has lost more than just a step while getting older, and as Bob McGinn has written on more than one occasion (the latest being in a JSOnline chat) that his knee is much worse than either he or the Packers have let on. No, Robinson is expendable at this point, but I wouldn’t be surpised to see him catch on somewhere else for one or two more seasons.
All that said, I am excited to see what Rodgers can do with Driver, Jennings, Jones, Martin, Lee and now Nelson and Finley thrown into the mix. Should make for some fun formations…
