I Owe Kurt Warner An Apology
By Aaron Nagler on Feb 03, 2009 with 7 Comments
This has absolutely nothing to do with the Packers - so bear with me. I'll have more Packer stuff later today.
When Kurt Warner was going to Super Bowls with the St. Louis Rams, I absolutley hated him. I mean, I loathed the man and his stupid looking wife. And I was vocal about it. Really, obnoxiously, obscenely vocal about it. I relished his fall and loved watching him pretty much fail in New York.
Well.
Having watched him rise again with the Cardinals, handle himself with nothing but class through the back and forth at the quarterback position in Arizona last year, and having read story after story of his generosity, I started to reassess my views on Warner. And then last night, I found myself up way too late, unable to sleep, watching Total Access on the NFL Network when I came across this post game interview with Warner. Just watch it. The man just lost the Super Bowl and handles it with the most amazing humility and grace imaginable. Here's a man practicing what he preaches, which seems to be a very rare thing these days.

Completely agree.
I think the problem for me was back in the late 90s I was heavily invested in the Greatness of Favre, and having Warner put up the type of numbers that Favre was putting up (and collecting MVPs) was a threat to the legacy of the Greatness of Favre.
I’m over it. It’s pretty hard not to cheer for Warner now.
Ditto!
Agreed. Warner is a great guy. I’m still not 100% sold on him as a Hall of Famer, but I won’t kick and scream when he gets in.

Kurt Warner has always been a player with class & humility. Even during his Ram days he showed the same class as now.
Maybe you need a little self-reflection if you were so wrong about him. How many other players ‘do you loathe’ that don’t deserve it ??
Warner, and Fitzgerald, put their team in a position to win. Their loss was due to a GB like fourth quarter defe nsive collapse. He will be back and put Matt Lineart on a Rodgers like development plan. Can we expect ……? Never Mind!
Woody – that’s the point of the post. When I was a younger man, childless and, admittedly, pretty damn naive, that was how I thought. Getting married, having three children and supporting a family will change your perspective pretty damn quick. I don’t irrationally loathe anyone anymore. Well, except the Vikings.
Nothng about loathing the Vikings (or the Bears, for that matter) is irrational.
