Highlights from Mike McCarthy's Press Conference
Following the beginning of Rookie Orientation Camp on Friday, Packers Coach Mike McCarthy spoke with the media. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference:
- Damarious Randall will be ready to go next week. Something minor kept him limited in practice, just being safe.
- Most of today's drills were for evalutation. There are some guys they didn't previously have enough information on. Use the information to confirm things and move things around.
- Brett Hudley threw the ball well. Did well walking in and working with new guys. There is always something to improve on.
- It is too early to determine if Randall and Collins are outside or inside corners.
- In regards to the try out players on site, they are looking for football players.
- There are opportunities through out the depth chart. Stressed with the young guys, that the team is young and how new guys have contributed to team in years passed.
- McCarthy: "We're a 25.57 age football team year in, year out. ... Everybody is going to have an opportunity."
- Ty Montgomery has "a ton of explosion" and stood out today.
- This is the last evaluation time for the staff to add people to our team.
- You train the rookies by themselves, because there will be a definite separation after a couple days of work and then when they hit the weight room, between rookies and veterans
- "It's time to throw your 40 yard dash time out the window." We're looking for the right kind of people to add to our football team.
- Rollins is wearing number 24, but doesn't signify that Bush couldn't come back. It was premature to give out the number 24.
The Rookie Orientation Camp will continue on Saturday and McCarthy will address the media afterwards as well.

That's great to hear. If we have a legit return game... watch out.

Right after the draft I thought he would be the gem of our draft. I know WR is a position that's really hard to be successful in year 1, but he has the ability to offer so much more than just receiving.

Bush seems like a pretty nice dude, but would he really come back after they gave his number away? I think not.

Turn down an NFL job because your number was given away? Seems reasonable.
(FYI, McCarthy said if Bush did return, he'd get 24 back.)

He's a respected vet on this team and giving his number away is a slap in the face. I'm sure he could probably play for someone else.

"I'm sure he could probably play for someone else."
Yea, teams are just falling over themselves to sign 31-year-old CBs who only really play special teams.

Did I say sign a Revis type contract? No...and I didn't say make tons of money I said play somewhere else. He's better than plenty of teams 3rd cb I guarantee. There is absolutely no reason to be such a smarta $$.

If another team wanted him, they would have signed him by now. Or, at the very least, brought him in for a visit.
He'll be a Packer or he'll likely sit out a while longer and eventually retire. But I guarantee his jersey number will not be a factor in whatever decision he makes.
That's not being a smart ass. That's just taking a reasoned look at a vet with a very limited skillset. I love Bush and would welcome him back, but it's the truth.

Bush isn't coming back. This draft took care of ST's and CBs.

Ty Montgomery is a powerful runner who can play from the backfield just like Cobb. He's an insurance in case Lacey is injured.

Definitely, it's obvious he's already a complete and utter failure.

I'm as excited about the undrafted prospects as the drafted. This is going to be a great year.
