Highlights From Mike McCarthy Season Opening Press Conference

Packers Head Coach, Mike McCarthy spoke with the media Wednesday, on the eve of Packers Training Camp. Here is a brief summation of what he said.

  • A lot of players arrived back in Green Bay early for camp.
  • 2014 is over. The team is different and last year doesn't count for anything.
  • Jordy Nelson might not be a full go at the start of camp. Full medical reports are not available yet.
  • McCarthy is disappointed in Quarless, has spoken with him. Quarless did not uphold the Packers brand. It's in the legal process now.
  • Expects a fast start from the offense, will be emphasis in camp. Believes offensive line to be best he's coached.
  • Rodgers reps and throws don't need to be counted. He's past that part of his career.
  • McCarthy wants to spend more time analyzing the team, joked about reading media's thoughts.
  • "Make sure you are who you think you are."
  • The team has a lot of young players, thought they did well in spring, need to work on fundamentals.
  • They need the roster to come together as quickly as possible.
  • Feels veterans on the team will be strong leaders.
  • "We have a plan, we'll work on that plan, our players believe in our plan."

I like it Mike, I also am disappointed in Q and it sounds like they have a short leash idea on him. Excited on all the young guys, season can not come soon enough for me.

Long live the beard. If you can grow it wear it. You twins should be a reporter for abc news covering the packers. Most of their so called news is kaitlyn, kardashians, the royal family, bieber, (insert tabloid here), etc. You get the point. They call that news? I had to give you a like for that one.

Sorry, i just disliked you at your request. I didnt think you were serious. I hope you got my point and i thought your comments were sarcastically inline with major so called news networks. I dont usually like/dislike unless every post.

If he has a special reason for the beard as you mention i dont think it would do any good to spill the beans too early. I hope his beard grows slow and hes starting extra early on his playoff beard. Go pack!

Agreed Nichkee, whatever the reason especially if it's for something like his brother I doubt he'd share that with the media and he shouldn't.

I'm starting to get concerned about Nelson. He really tailed off towards the end of the season and now might not be a full go. Starting to wonder just how minor of a clean up it was.

Me too. That's why I listed a #3 and a #4 WR as three things/players to watch, in case Jordy isn't full steam by week one. Thanks for the football related post.

EDIT: Nelson passed his physical and is medically cleared to play. That doesn't mean that the Packers won't be a little careful with him for a while, but it is good news.

That's good news and excellent points about the 3rd and 4th WR's. I'm glad to hear Nelson was cleared. The Packers have always been overly cautious if anything so that's good news.

I have linked to a fine article on roster and cap management. It shows in part that GB has the 2nd lowest dead money in the NFL - and that's in a bad year for TT, due to the release of Hawk and Jones, who account for half of the packers' dead money. There are other interesting details, too.
