Herm Edwards. Terrible coach. Amazing motivator. That speech was absolutely fantastic. So hard to give a good speech in these symposiums, everything has already been said and done. But he did it.

Fantastic.

Terrible coach? Average coach maybe. I can think of many coaches who are/were much, much worse.

You can think of a much worse coach currently employed?

Let's see... 39-41 record in NY. 15-33 in KC.
.422 record in the regular season, .333 in the postseason.

If that's not terrible, the guys you know must really, really suck. He's on par with Kotite...

You never said HEAD coach. He was a good DB coach. And he was so terrible in NY that he took his team, his inherited from Al Groh team, to the playoffs his first two years as head coach. Yes, his last two seasons in NY were not pretty. And he was never a good fit in Kansas City.

Coaching football covers a lot of ground. Not everyone is built to be a good head coach - would you call Dom Capers a "terrible" coach? Somehow - I doubt it.

I meant head coach. Thought it was implied. My mistake I guess.

As far as taking teams to the playoffs, so did Kotite...

Back in the mid '90s I heard Ray Nitschke say he had one good hit left in him as well...I met him at a shoe store opening in Chicago about a year before he died. I asked him if he still had it.

He grabbed my hand, pulled it closer, and said "Yeah, I still got it."

I believed him.
