Best case scenario.

Sign a 1 day with the Pack, retire.

Retire Jersey #4 on Sunday night, game 1 versus the Bears.

I'm not too worried. I've gotten past the point where I hoped that he performed poorly. I am at the point, though, where I expect him not to perform well. With any luck, he'll be signing with the Packers in order to retire with them. I'm buying my Bears tickets now just in case.

You think Brett still has that passion to play? He already stuck it to TT and played last season and he looked burned out for the last 5 games of the year. I don't think he can honestly (sanely?) think somehow the fire will be re-lit.

Aaron - you yourself stated as little as 4 months ago that Favre was an asset (having given up a 3rd round pick to get him). So what's happened since January that makes the Jets think he has no value? Release him? Whaaa????

Favre is past the point where he will win another championship. Its all about greed and ego to him at this point, not being part of a team. If he goes to the Vikes, they are favorites to win the division, thats true. But they won the division last year anyway. They wont win a SB with Favre. When your getting up to 40, you need to work HARDER at being an athlete, not TAKE THE SUMMER OFF.

I gotta say. I am actually starting to be amused by all of this. It's like when Randy Macho Man Savage came off the top turnbuckle and smached the bell into Ricky The Dragon Steamboats head. Sometimes you need a bad guy. Favre has become the ultimate bad guy wrestler.

Does anyone like the look of Edgerrin James in a GBP uniform? Would TT consider him, or is he too old? Probably not as much room under the salary cap with CMIII and Raji to sign...

I'll never understand the hatred towards #4, so I won't ask. However, isn't there a legit question about the status of his injury from last season. Doesn't he need surgery for a torn bicep? If he wasn't hurt, I'd bet the farm on him replacing an injured QB midway through the season...

I agree with Aaron that Favre would make that MN offense dangerous. They don't need Favre in his prime to win. All they need is good QB play. They have a very good line. They have the best RB in the league, a good TE, and two solid WR's now. Favre has the arm to make the throws needed in that offense. And, he has what they really need at QB and that is someone who can lead an offense and read and react to what the defense is showing them. No one better then Favre at that even if his arm is 80% what it used to be.

Anyway, I think this is probably nothing more then Bus Cooke looking out for his client and the Jets not really caring anymore because of Sanchez.

Just imagine the damage he could do running play-action with AP. Every safety, every linebacker biting, and Favre taking his pick of one-on-one or wide-open guys.

If he comes back to play with any other team I'll be fine. Whatever, do your thing man. If he comes back and plays with the Vikings, it will solidify my hatred for both the Vikings and Favre.
---
"I’ll never understand the hatred towards #4" – Obviously, the hatred stemmed from the debacle in which Thompson decided to go with Rodgers, as the long term future of the team, rather than try to win immediately with Favre. Once the story broke in July, people were forced to choose a side. We had to either support the guy to whom we owed so much, or support the guy who wouldn't let emotions get in the way of making long term football decisions.
---
Those who supported Favre couldn’t see any good that Thompson had done or any bad that Favre had done. To attempt to combat this, those who supported Thompson had to point out all of the good that Thompson had done and all of the bad that Favre had done. Because they spent so much time picking apart Favre’s legacy, and the verbal assaults on both sides became increasingly hateful, those who originally started out as Thompson supporters devolved into Favre haters. Anyway, I think that’s how it went down.

ricgrish - There's a huge difference between "playing like a kid" and being childish. He may be a top 12 QB in the league, but, statistically, so is Rodgers. If the Pack took Favre back after he retired and they gave the keys to Rodgers, there's a good possibility that Rodgers would have just walked when his contract was up. Then the team would start to look eerily like the Vikings and Bears. Stocked up at most positions, but unable to get anywhere because they have no QB.
--
Yes, Brett helped the team a ton, but he was paid quite handsomely. Football is a business, it has been for years. Stop living in a fantasy world where players don't age and all play for the right reasons. There's a reason the dude wanted to play for the Vikings, and it had nothing to do with his love for the game.

@$#^% I did it again. I just seem to lose control when it comes to this topic. Why, Brett, why did you have to do this? We were so excited that Thompson was aggressive in the draft. We were looking forward to next year. All seemed to be washing away with the tide, but then this happens. You have dragged us back into the same old bickering. This is why many of us have come to hate you, even though we desperately don't want to.

It's great how the post for who's going to start at RT, which is a pretty large problem for our franchise and has a long and well-written post about it, has only a quarter of comments compared to this post which, in its entirety, was 'Oh Shit'. The guy brings out the passion in people, I guess. But, as much as I would be loathe to see Favre in purple and lining up against our D twice a year, the idea of the Pack beating him in Lambeau as a final 'that's-what-you-get-when-you-act-like-a-shit-stirrer' from those of us who are sick of this noise is a fantastic notion.

Shootz - Yeah, that's why when readers ask me not to post about Favre I have to point them to the numbers like the ones you cite above. The man is a lightning rod. That said, he was still Packers property last offseason. This year, he's not a Packer problem so I'll probably pay him a whole lot less attention...

Aaron- I'll belive that when I (don't) see it. Just kidding... sort of. ;)

Last year this would have driven me up a wall, but this year, I'm over it. Rodgers won me over and I admit that Thompson was right about him. Brett will always be my favorite athlete ever, but the Packers are my favorite team and the name on the font > the name on the back (I know, work with me on this.)

Basically, I wouldn't be thrilled to see him in purple, but I'm infinitely more excited about adding Capers, Raji, and CM3 to the defense than annoyed about Brett in Minnesota.

There are only two possible outcomes to Favre playing right tackle: 1. "And it looks from the replay like Brett Favre just stepped aside and allowed Jared Allen to come through untouched! And Allen has absolutely decimated Aaron Rodgers who never saw him coming! Rodgers has not moved for about three minutes." "That's right, Jaws, but if you slow the play down you see that Jared Allen wasn't untouched, in fact Brett is giving him the ole' low-five as he surges past! Well, who could possibly step into the breach and play quarterback for the Packers now?" // 2. "And Brett Favre has pancaked the oncoming defensive tackle! This is fantastic! As Pat Williams lies on the field, Brett has taken off his helmet and is running around the field! Look at Brett Favre! He is so happy! Nevermind that it's the fourth play of the game, resulted in an incomplete pass and he's severely holding up the game as the Packers near the red zone, it's Brett Favre! Favre Favre Favre! Favre!" "John, I really wish you hadn't unretired." "Shut up, Al."

Jayme' - ignore the nonsense. Gunslinger had been out of the Media spotlight for (what) two months - he was DUE.

As for the others - some truly great comments of real fandom on here. It mirrors thoughts of fans all around the Planet - PackerBackers WorldWide. And, the comment where "playing like a kid - doesn't match - being childish" is spot on. If any of you have children at home, then you certainly have a grip on what it's like to be the Packers versus Brett Favre. I mentioned it when the Soap Opera began, Big Irv would have never stood for any of that behavior. Never! And, here's another curiosity. How many people can really say they knew or even heard the Media constantly bring up the name of Favre's Agent, BEFORE Big Irv passed away (?) Eh? I'd say the percentages are incredibly low, for even this Group. Bus Cook's wreckage is laying all over the NFL, from Steve McNair to Jay Cutler. Practically on par with Drew Rosenhaus; maybe worse actually.
Others are asking where the headache medicine is at. I'm referring all who need it, to therapy. For myself, what with the fact that he did NOT choose to have surgery right after the season ended, speaks volumes that he has finally decided to hang up the cleats for good. I would go so far as to say, he privately admits "he should have stayed retired last March 8th. It was (and is) the better ending to the Movie! It was fun while it lasted and we were one of only a few teams to ever enjoy such stuff. Let's place it where it belongs, so we can enjoy when he comes back to meet the fans again. I hope he has the grit to ask Gilbert Brown to come along when he does. Mike Sherman wouldn't let even that happen in 2004. The dirtbag!
As for Aaron Rodgers? Doesn't he remind you of a young Bart Starr? How about a combination of Starr/Dickey/Favre? Sure seems that way right now. Let's see what history gives us!

I had finally started to like him again. I was still unhappy with the drama last year, but it was started to get overshadowed by good memories. And then this comes up and I want to start banging my head against a wall.

I was/am a Favre fan. Watching him was a big reason I became a serious football fan. I loved watching him play and I was so proud that he was on 'my' team. This behavior is selfish and self-destructive. I don't know if his grievances are valid or not but frankly it doesn't matter. Sometimes life sucks and you just deal with it. Someone being 'mean' to you pales in comparison to what a lot of other people are going through.

If he is trying to go to the Vikings this is all about trying to hurt Ted Thompson. If he wanted to play he would be looking at other teams - or have stayed with the Jets. By looking at the Vikings he clearly wants to stick it to Ted Thompson. The problem is that it will then hurt his former teammates - including his friends like Driver. That is selfish, stupid and childish.

Right now I'm hoping this is all rumors and won't come to anything. Now if we hear he's having surgery to repair the injury from last season then it may be time to start paying attention. Until them I'm going to try and focus on our new D, and the upcoming season.
