Here Comes Nolan Down the Stretch...

Just when it seemed Moss was the only logical choice, here comes Pete Dougherty quoting "Two NFL sources":

Mike McCarthy appears likely to bring in Nolan to replace Bob Sanders, who was fired on Monday. One source said word at the Cactus Bowl, the all-star game for Division II seniors in Kingsville, Texas, is that the move is all but done. Another source said there appeared to be a 90 percent chance Nolan will join the Packers.

We may now resume our arguments about Nolan, the Big Nickel and Ted Thompson's nightmare of an offseason trying to find the right personell to fit a new scheme.

(And chalk up another point for Florio in the Lombardi/Florio Cage Match...)

As stated before, MM has but one choice. He will pick the guy who he thinks will save his job. Another year like 2008 and TT will be doing the interviewing next year. As far as TT having a difficult off-season, he already had that scheduled. D-linemen, LB, and O-linemen were before and are now his critical meeds.

One possibility is Terrance Cody coming out early from Alabama. At 6-5 and 365, I'd say he's worth the gamble at middle guard. He's projected at 15-25 in round one, if he's there. And the link from Keith says 3-4 may not be aa ridgid as we think. Remember Leroy Butler also said the 3-4 is the easiest defense to teach and the most forgiving to assignment erorrs (I guess he means someone has your back).

In other words, 3-4,4-3 5-2, 6-1, or 7-0 you need talent and they must be able to implement the plan. Hence, the DC must be a good teacher and disciplinarian.

Nolan has got to be the best fit for this team at this point. So he failed at being the head coach in San Fran. Their offense was horrid and their Defense was the only thing that kept them in games. He is a total professional and a great motivator to his defensive players. I hope they get him.

If it's to SAVE HIS JOB ... which I don't think it is ... then he should be looking hard at 4-3 guys and my top two are: TIM LEWIS and SEAN MCDERMOTT.

There's good Article on Packer Report discussing Jerry Gray and another discussing Sean McDermott ... not really caring who speaks well other than what we can find out about their coaching stats. Sam Huff never did like the Lombardi Packers, who cares. Darren Sharper went to school with McDermott and competed against him throughout College... that has more meat on it.

NO - Winston Moss SHOULD NOT be getting the nod. His Linebackers were horrible this year... If he was worthy, then the LB's would be the talk of the NFL, losing season or not. This is 101 stuff, guys!

IPB - I've addressed Moss before this, but just for the fun of it, if it's '101 stuff' as you claim, why is Moss interviewing for a head coaching job? Clearly there's more to him than you are willing to concede... Fans don't know the first thing that position coaches do. Just because their respective players don't play well doesn't mean they are bad coaches. Besides, the LBs sure seemed to perform quite well in 2007. There are a million reasons the linebackers played poorly this season. Moss is only a very small part of the equation.
