If a team could win in a shutout and look horrible doing it, the packers did. They got off to a great start, but we started seeing more of the classic packer characteristics I.e. Sacks, poor o line play, and too many penalties to count. Hopefully the pack can start looking better next week against “mangenious” and his disfunctuonal excuse for an NFL team! Go pack!

Dont bring another nfc north team in the picture. Look. We played the LIONS, without Johnson or Stafford, like lebowski said, as good as Purdue. And again gave up 2.5 sacks to a single player in Julian Peterson. We gotta maintain a block on that line. Tauscher, get ready man, we need you. We need to get rid of Clifton, and for once TED THOMPSON!!!!!!!!!!! GO GET SOME FREE AGENTS THIS YEAR! YOUR THOWING OUR TEAM AWAY

Interesting posts everyone, but I think we are all leaving one enourmous elephant in the room… The biggest of part of why the oline is the way it is… Ted, *&%$ Ted Thompson, his believe in magical draft picks is failing, his ability to go after free agents is frightening and think of all the peoplw he has cut… Tauscher (which he finally corrected), KGB (for who justin f’n harrell, the biggest flop since the incradible bulk), the list of safeties (could have help against brett), it goes on and on.

Yes clear out McCarthy, if you can’t call decent plays find someone who can… for god’s sake there is shannahan, holmgren, and norm off the top of my head as coaches they could try for.

Last but not least with the trade deadline tomorrow and I may get harranged for this one… Grant and some draft picks to St. Louis for Stephen Jackson… just think about it. I know I get wood when I do.

It was a win they needed. There’s another week to hopefully fix the problems and build on it.
As for Campen, if he’s not committed to the ZBs, then they need someone, Jags, maybe, who is.
Can you really change blocking schemes in mid season or with personnel chosen for this scheme? Do they have the players for a power blocking line?
I believe they do work on the fundamentals in practice, but somehow leave it there. They seem to get rattled or pulled off game in game time. Also injuries are a disruption I don’t care what anybody says.
I don’t want a head coaching change. It means more disruptions and that will set development back. Add to that more money wasted on coaching hires and paying off contracts, rather than acquiring players.
This is a potentially good team and exciting to watch – just got to fix the problems, establish mental readiness, and up the level of play.

Firing Campen would would be fabulous. I’ve lost all confidence in McCarthy as a head coach. The guy can’t shape the big picture. He’s an excellent QB coach. That’s it.

I’ve never seen Packers shut out a team and still weep over how poorly we played. We weren’t good. The Lions just stink. I hate that I can barely be proud of the team, because watching that offensive line, I know that a real team can shred through our offense.

Packers don’t need to replace Campen. He’s not doing anything, so don’t even have an offensive line coach and save the salary.

Again, I feel there’s alot wrong with the Packers right now, like many of you (You can ask anyone who was in the Gameday live blog with me today, I complain plenty too!).
.
That said, complaining and griping doesn’t actually do anything. I’m not impressed by the Packers’ win today over the Lions. I don’t think todays performance is an indicator we’re going to the play offs.
.
I do, however, know and appreciate that it’s a FACT that a win today is the first in a line of steps that need to be taken to make it into the play offs. So guess what? I’m going to enjoy it, if even just for the day, before I’m back to being concerned about the state of the Packers… (And full well knowing my concern doesn’t do anything to rememdy the Packers’ woes anyways )

Those that want Campen fired (Which I’m not necessarily abject to) should also think upon this: Firing James Campen doesn’t do ANYTHING to improve the O-line. HIRING A BETTER COACH might. So, the big question is, who is it that you suggest the PAckers replace Campen with overnight leading into week 7 of the 2009 NFL season?

Not trying to be rude, but if I walked into my boss’s office and said we need to fire my supervisor because he’s poor at his job, he’d ask me where the guy is who’s going to show up to replace him tomorrow.

All you rosy eyed optimists, gimme a break. The Lions without Stafford and Calvin Johnson are Purdue. Packers couldn’t score a freaking touchdown in 3 and a half quarters against a team that was fielding one starting defensive lineman. I’m glad you’re happy, enjoy it for one more week.

Again, I find it baffling that shutting out a team is not indicative of a playoff caliber team. Of course it’s the Lions…but just how much better do they have to do in your eyes to be more than middle of the road? Just some of the distorted logic I’m talking about. I’ll stop harping on it though since it’s clear people want to find something to complain about regardless…

I just feel like we’re a middle-of-the-road team. We beat the bad teams and lose to the good teams. There was nothing about this win that encourages me about the team. And, for the second season in a row, we do not have a reliable running game. I see a guy like steven jackson on the trading block, and how does a guy like that not make us instantly better? (Given there’s no O-Line guys on the market)

Eagles fans are the rudest fans I’ve ever come across, and the least welcoming guests at their stadium. But I realize all fans of every team are critical… I just think people (in general) take it overboard. Try not to focus on the negatives….you’ll live longer .

And I’m not sure if you are being facetious with your Steelers comment but I think it’s something that’s worth noting especially since both teams play similar defenses. The fact that the Packers D shut out the Lions when the Steelers struggled, especially when we’re so early in the 3-4 transition has to be worth cheering about.

As for Campen’s head, maybe at year’s end. then he’ll be sacrificed to keep McCarthy in chips and beer. McCarthy’s not gonna budge before that. Why should he? We’ll fall 8-8 and Ted’s not gonna fire his head coach. So, who fires Ted? Murphy?

See my point?

Playing the Lions tougher than the Steelers did is like notching a moral victory and a W at the same time!

Back in reality, it was 26-0 vs. the Lions at home and without Stafford and later, Culpepper & no Megatron. Good for them for not screwing up too much. Hooray.

I don’t think Packer fans are particularly tough on the team. They are pretty similar to Bear fans. Take a listen to Chicago fans after Bear games. The names are different, but you’ll hear similar hopes & criticisms. Philadelphia fans are supposedly the toughest — they boo kids and Santa — but i don’t have enough experience with Eagle fans to confirm this.

I don’t know that I could feel worse about a 26 point victory. All the penalties and sacks are just unacceptable. MM does not have control of his men. Take the W’s how ever you can get ‘em, but playing at this level against anybody but Detroit and Cleveland will be certain losses.

Thank God I’m not alone in my optimism. Good posts Oppy and Packnic. Everyone is so overdramatic and negative…it sometimes brings me down. Man, I can’t imagine how much it would suck to be dissapointed after a win the way some people seem to get. I don’t get it.

And this wasn’t just a win, it was complete dominance on both sides of the field, regardless of the issues. It was a shutout, people. Regardless of the opponent, they are extremely rare. Can’t you find a reason to be happy after that, if even for a few minutes??
.
I think we need a new segment sometime during the week to keep these Packer fans away from the ledge and to keep things in perspective.

First off…Campan will NOT be fired during the season. MM hasn’t the rocks for it.

Secondly; perhaps fans like myself gripe about a winning game because we KNOW that if the team plays this way againest the Vikes, Steelers, etc…we will lose. No question.

Thirdly…at least we’re consistant..another 5 sacks to hold our average.

I’m not sure why Lang finally got in, but if MM was sincere about responsibility, he would have yanked Clifton after the second penalty. And Chad will start againest the Browns, I’ll bet.

BTW, Did Hawk make even one tackle? And if I’d been coach, Barnett would have been benched for laughing about his facemask penalty. It cost us 24 yds and gave them a first down.
Another BTW; Notice the scoring? 14-9-3-0 by quarters. Running out of gas?

completely agree oppy. 26-0 and people are calling for the head coach’s head on a platter. ridiculous. If you can’t enjoy you’re team shutting the opposing team out…why cheer for them at all?

We are dead middle of the league in penalty yards. I dont think its the pandemic its made out to be. Its like H1N1… it seems a lot worse than it really is, and a healthy team/person can over come it.

Offensive line play is terrible. I dont normally call for coaches to be fired, but what has Campen ever done to justify his hiring in the first place. Send a message, produce or leave. Between the constant penalties, the glaring blown assignments and the mind boggling Sack #s, its clear that the one thing really holding this team back is the O-line. Someone has to pay for it, and Campen is the guy. Hell, hire back Jagz.. at least he got his guys to produce and he’d be cheap.

Relax boys… a win is a win.

Oppy, I think Packer fans are just sick of being lied to by McCarthy. Sick of hearing how mistakes will be cleaned up. Sick of hearing how people will be held accountable. Sick of hearing how he’ll commit to running the ball, then when the perfect opportunity presents itself, 1st and goal, he tries another pass which blows up in their face. It’s just the same crap every week, and if the competition is a joke we win, but if the competition is good we lose. No progress at all.

Sorry Cheesehead I can’t get on board with the Campen’s firing statement. The stupid scheme where playing wasn’t JC idea…Jags brought it here with all kinds of promises and MM fell in love.
James has stated MANY times he prefers a Power gap scheme..when the boss says put this in and make it work you do what your told.
Dump the ZBS scheme and everything that goes with it and watch this team improve on that O-line. Time to put the blame squarely on the man in charge.
