Gut Reactions: Week 11
Aaron's gut reactions from the win over the Vikings.
By PackerAaron
- Rodgers and the passing offense were clearly out of sync to start, but wow, once they got going...
- Charles Woodson is a man.
- Cullen Jenkins looked like he will be causing problems for opposing teams for the rest of the year.
- Saw some rookie stuff from Shields today, peeking in the backfield, etc.
- How great was it to watch the Vikings implode before our eyes?
- Big time credit to the defense for basically saying "Don't worry offense - we got you while you warm up"
- I'll say it again, Greg Jennings is the best route runner in the NFL.
- This would have been a shut out if not from Frank Zombo.
- A. J. Hawk had some fantastic tackles, more physical than I've seen in awhile.
- Tramon Williams earned himself a bunch of money today.
- Bring on the Falcons.

Favre looked like he was ready to cry when they iso-ed him on the sideline late in the game. I started to feel sorry for him for just a second, but then I remembered, "Oh yeah"...
November 21, 2010 at 05:34 pm
Are you talking about those glassy red eyes? Either he is going to cry or he is looks real high.
November 21, 2010 at 06:23 pm
I loved every second of Favre's "Sad Panda" look. It was just delightful.
November 21, 2010 at 04:24 pm
I dont care what the season stats say Green Bays Defense is the best in the league...10 points in 3 games?!? are you serious...desmond bishop contract talks are making this week even better
November 21, 2010 at 05:30 pm
The season stats actually pretty much cement us as, perhaps, the league's best defense; I believe that after this game we edge the Bears as the top team in terms of points allowed/game, as well as the number one team as far as opponent passer rating.
November 21, 2010 at 06:06 pm
I think we're tied with Chicago now at 146 PA this year... but we've been outscoring opponents by over twice as much as Chicago.
Can't wait for Week 17 at Lambeau. :-)
November 21, 2010 at 07:13 pm
You're right on about the points/game, my apologies. In any event, massive, massive credit to the job Capers is doing shutting opposing teams down with the pieces he's got.
November 21, 2010 at 09:23 pm
Packers point differential is 106.
That is double ANYONE in the league.
They are officially the hottest team in the NFL right now....BUT....'
Let's wait until they beat someone with a winning record before we start sucking each other's dicks on this one.
November 22, 2010 at 12:57 am
Pucker up bog.....road wins @ philly & jets!! Lol
November 21, 2010 at 04:30 pm
Woodson is ALWAYS after the ball, crazy. Laid down a nice hit in the flat that I was happy to see him bounce up from. He did throw out a leg on the sideline tryin to trip a guy. When they motioned Harvin into the backfield at the last second, they caught us and probably would of had a first down regardless, but Hawk made great contact and just couldn't get em down. Resulted in an extra 8 yards or so. But whatever great game! Rodgers 4td! Jennings... Matthews !!! Go Pack!
November 21, 2010 at 04:37 pm
Man was that satisfying. Favre throws a miserable game: Rodgers throws 4 tds. McCarthy is mentioned as a "Coach of the Year" candidate: Viking fans cheer for Childress' head. The Packers go 7-3: Vikings drop to 3-7. Packers have their tickets sold out for the next 8000 years in an historic stadium: Minny is up for grabs. Thompson's "Slow and steady wins the race" prevails: Favre's arrogant gun-slinger play fails. Rodgers shows class as he's brought off the field: Favre bickers on the sideline like a child.
The ONLY complaint I have is...seriously??? We're using Nance as a running back now? Where's the motion? What's next, Kuhn as a fullback? Lang as an o-lineman? C'mon.
November 21, 2010 at 05:16 pm
This is an absolutely great post.
+100
November 21, 2010 at 07:08 pm
Nance actually looked decent, imo. Could be a viable short yardage option. Hits the hole much better than Bjax.
November 21, 2010 at 07:42 pm
Man, I hope people realize I'm joking here. I was thrilled to see Nance used, and he looked very good, imo. I sort of felt for a little while that we were "saving him" as a little bit of a ringer for this game. I mean, not that we were about to unleash an unknown AP, but someone they didn't have film on. He definitely adds some spice. I'm looking forward to seeing Starks, whether it be this season or the next.
November 21, 2010 at 08:33 pm
I can't beleive you wouldn't like to see Nance back there on 3rd and 1 over jax after what he did to henderson.
November 21, 2010 at 08:36 pm
missed ur last post.... I guess I was confused on the Lang comment being sarcastic. I don't have confidence in him
November 21, 2010 at 09:34 pm
Ha...it's cool. The joke was supposed to be that we actually used Nance, as opposed to just sending him in motion (and recently there have been a lot of good one-liners about him being the "best in the NFL at going in motion"). Now we can use Kuhn as a fulltime fullback again, and Lang is a good o-lineman, but he's played more meaningful snaps on the defensive line this year. BUT, when you have to explain the joke, it didn't land. My apologies to all.
November 21, 2010 at 10:15 pm
Got it without the explanation and it was spot on. No need to apologize, Tommyboy. All is well in Packerland this evening.
The sideline camera work today was just as good as last game vs cowboys...just brilliant work and oh so gratifying. What kind of bullshit antics were those?? Would Bellichek or Tomlin allow that crap? If Chilly doesn't get axed after that, Zygi should be fired...oh...wait...
November 22, 2010 at 12:55 am
My apologies u had to explain that...deerrrr
November 21, 2010 at 11:04 pm
I meant to add one more - The Vikings WillAIMS wall played poorly: The Packers all know how to spell their own names. HA! Get it? Get it?...please, just get it...
November 21, 2010 at 04:41 pm
Pitch to Jackson >>>>>> Pitch to Kuhn
November 21, 2010 at 05:52 pm
I second that. If I recall, Kuhn did not have a single carry in this game. Which I am 100% on board with.
November 21, 2010 at 04:43 pm
Oh, and Todd? Where are you??? I'm here. Chillin. With my cold, Siberian bear. Without a cheese in my head.
November 21, 2010 at 05:22 pm
I don't think Todd will be shooting his mouth off this week. Too bad, it could have been fun.
November 21, 2010 at 08:29 pm
I was thinking of him the whole game!
November 21, 2010 at 09:07 pm
He is rooting for Cleveland now. Ha HA I am so glad someone remembered Todd.
November 21, 2010 at 09:26 pm
HEY TOOOOOdd...Here kitty, kitty, kitty....
November 21, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Perhaps Todd has checked himself into Hazelden.
November 21, 2010 at 05:04 pm
I don't know how you still complain about the running game
tommyboy....Nance did a good job...time to get over the runningback decision and failed attempt to sign someone else...
November 21, 2010 at 05:05 pm
I was joking...I thought that was painfully obvious.
November 21, 2010 at 05:29 pm
You're cool... it was obvious.
Beats the hell out of Nance "going in motion".
31 unanswered points -- SWEET !!!
November 21, 2010 at 05:06 pm
I think he was being sarcastic.
November 21, 2010 at 05:14 pm
MM gets a lot of crap from fans, so let's give him some love - he called a hell of a game today. Also, it seems like those pesky penalties have actually been "cleaned up" pretty good.
Man this feels good.
November 21, 2010 at 05:39 pm
Good point..another reason they are winning, controlling the amount of penalties being thrown at them.
November 21, 2010 at 06:10 pm
Absolutely. I just don't know why we always need to start slow...
But hey, the tendency is spotted now. Now I won't panic.
November 21, 2010 at 05:14 pm
Very, very satisfying. Game seemed to really turn after Sir Charles caused that fumble. Also loved the picture of A-Rodg congratulating him as he came off the field. Love the support of teh O for the D because this was a team game today. The defense taking control until the offense was ready to step up. Contrast this with the chaos on the Vikings bench...players and coaches arguing, players swearing at eachother. I absolutely loved it!
November 21, 2010 at 05:16 pm
Greg Jennings...what can I say that hasn't been said.
He has a special type of vision...and instincts that just allow him to reroute coverage and waltz into the endzone.
He's not the strongest or fastest....just the smartest....and sometimes he makes it look so easy that I think I could just lace 'em up and go play ball with the Green and Gold myself...ha ha...and then I sober up.
Another great victory...they are shaping up to be the team we expected. Next week is a big game...
Go Pack Go!
November 21, 2010 at 05:25 pm
Today is a day to sing and dance! What a beautiful victory. GO PACK GO!!!!
November 21, 2010 at 05:32 pm
By the way, where are Todd from Minnesota and Pack66? I demand an appearance from the troll squad of the Minnesota Vikings. Let them defend their pathetic 3-7 team for our amusement.
November 21, 2010 at 06:38 pm
You mean re-Todd, and 6pack66 ?
They probably have the wife beater shirts on and drolling on themselves.
November 21, 2010 at 05:38 pm
31 UN-answered points, on the road !!
thirty-one !
I'm enjoying ANOTHER beverage at this moment !!
November 21, 2010 at 05:40 pm
Favre's touch of tears on the sideline was because he had just received a text message - divorce papers from Deanna.
Way to go today, Pack. The Vikings and Favre have been obsessed with the Packers all year and this "dagger" in their heart was wonderful.
November 21, 2010 at 05:40 pm
"Saw some rookie stuff from Shields today, peeking in the backfield, etc."
Saw the same thing. Don't think it's a bad thing, means he's got instincts. He was damn close to undercutting a couple balls. He'll start making some of those plays.
Most complete game of the season. We handle the dirty birds.
GBP 4 LIFE
November 21, 2010 at 06:12 pm
Exaclty. Even with all those rookie mistakes, he allowed something like 4 catches for 50, 60 yards or so.
Pretty good for someone covering Sidney Rice.
November 21, 2010 at 06:24 pm
Packers win in the Hump Dome and Badgers win in the big house. What a perfect weekend for Wisconsin football.
November 21, 2010 at 07:16 pm
Amen to that. Badgers look good man, Tolzein's rock solid, they just need to find a run game 8-)
November 21, 2010 at 09:49 pm
Awesome
November 21, 2010 at 05:43 pm
Running game was just enough, but we really won this because of great passing and stout defense. This being the NFL, they won't always have such a strong showing week in and out, and we need someone who can more reliably run than Jackson or Kuhn. Kuhn might be a folksy fan favorite, but he won't carry the team on his back. Nance showed glimpses of potential, however.
What a win.
First time packers and viking met in 1961, the Pack won the game 33-7. Pretty darn close score to what we saw today.
November 21, 2010 at 06:29 pm
Fifty years later and they are still an expansion team.
November 21, 2010 at 05:53 pm
Huge win. If they go in to ATL and win my head might explode. That would be big.
November 21, 2010 at 05:57 pm
Tomorrow's headline..."Flynn Has Higher QB Rating Than Favre." Love to see Brent getting bettered by both of his understudies.
Let's hope this doesn't start a quarterback controversy In Green Bay.
November 21, 2010 at 06:47 pm
Lol, QB controversy in Green Bay. I love it. I was glad to see Flynn play well. Hopefully he doesn't have to come in due to injury, but the more reps he gets in a real game, the more ready he will be should he be truly needed.
November 21, 2010 at 05:59 pm
Maybe the reason favre eyes were red because he smoked a fatty after the game to forget about the game he just played
November 21, 2010 at 06:00 pm
I do wish that Rodgers had taken Bill Simmons' advice and unveiled his new "cell phone dong" TD celebration after the fourth TD. That would have been the cherry on top of a ridiculously great game.
November 21, 2010 at 06:01 pm
I had to order another beer when Flynn got in such a lovely moment against the Vikqueens.
November 21, 2010 at 06:02 pm
Wow, and this is the Vikings peak year. Wonder what next year will look like. The Williams Wall gets another year older. Farve is gone. Could the Lions finally have a shot at getting out of the NFC North cellar?
November 21, 2010 at 06:13 pm
Next year? Who's to say the Vikings won't finish last THIS year???
November 21, 2010 at 06:05 pm
i was not happy with the 1st quarter.. but the rest of the game went really well rodgers is coming into form again this season and nance looked alright jackson looked meh but im glad we ran the ball a little despite most of it being at the end.. starks next week? i didnt expect to see him this week he hanst been back that long he probably has rust to shake off but next week id like to see him get a couple carries depth at runningback at this point in the season can become so crucial in a game. along with being able to run the ball a bit. defense looks great really happy with how it is having the dline getting healthy definitly helped today and clifton handled the "beast" jarred allen.. hopefully clifton holds the form.. and this is why finley getting hurt may be a blessing in disguise for the next few years.. jennings and rodgers are developing a connection.. when finley was healthy rodgers would just force the ball to finley almost constantly. its nice to see rodgers connecting with jennings and they seem to be gettin on to the same page hopefully he doesnt forget about jennings when finley comes back.. and nelson and jones seem to be clicking with rodgers as well.. driver looks like he might be done this season tho maybe 1 more year left its a shame he has been such a great WR but he seems to have lost a step and is starting to hesitate nad is dropping balls here and there.. overall really happy with everything we are hitting our stride at the right point in the year..
falcons will be a good test coming at the right time for us
November 21, 2010 at 06:06 pm
oh.. chillar needs to just go.. i didnt understand why they gave him that nice contract last year.. and still dont.. he is terrible.. bishop looks great so suprised about that definitly happy about it tho.. he deserves a contract chillar deserves the snips.. hawk looked good today had the fumble recovery chillar needs to be kept around simply for depth but god the man is terrible
November 21, 2010 at 06:15 pm
So mad when I saw that was Chillar allowing those.
Chillar, Zombo and Bulaga had bad games. Shields had an ok game.
The rest were spetacular.
BTW, when was the last time someone complained about Colledge?
November 21, 2010 at 06:36 pm
Jackson was meh? I don't have the stats in front of me, but he seemed to do quite well on the delayed handoffs and short passes out of the flat.
November 21, 2010 at 07:01 pm
The bell tolls for punctuation...
November 21, 2010 at 08:32 pm
^haha.
November 21, 2010 at 09:39 pm
werd. I can't even read that continuous run-on goddledy gook.
November 21, 2010 at 06:06 pm
Wow. Most complete game in a while. TT has his work cut out signing Bishop/Jenkins/Williams. Get it done
November 21, 2010 at 06:23 pm
I hear that a moving van with California plates was backed up to the loading dock at Winter Park after the game.
Hmmm, the La La Land Narley Dudes has a ring to it.
November 21, 2010 at 06:23 pm
Perfect day.
Had a couple of the in-laws over. Their teenage son is a big 'queens fan.
Funny how quickly he went from pantomiming the allen lasso bullshit to going upstairs to get some pizza and coming back down without his 'queens sweatshirt on.
All of a sudden texting was way more important than the game.
He's blood - I love him to death... but just such a typical 'queens fan.
WHO'S F'N NEXT?
LINE 'EM UP, BOYS!
NO ONE - AND I MEAN NO ONE - WANTS TO PLAY THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW.
Holy crap! Imagine this team next year with Neal, Grant, Finley, Jones, and Burnett! THAT'S NOT EVEN FAIR!
November 21, 2010 at 06:24 pm
OOPS - AND BARNETT TOO!
November 21, 2010 at 08:31 pm
HOPEFULLY THERE ISN'T A LOCKOUT. THAT WOUlD SUCK.
November 21, 2010 at 06:51 pm
Great job by the offense in making adjustments after the 1st quarter. Greater still knowing that Chillydog had no such ability to adjust in kind. And am thoroughly looking forward to the water cooler talk tomorrow morning at my job in Minneapolis!
November 21, 2010 at 07:16 pm
You lucky dog, stand tall and smile, ok giggle, or just f*&kin laugh out loud.
November 21, 2010 at 07:00 pm
Speaking about seeing some rookie stuff...Bulaga didn't have the best of games.
Just saying.
Great win...4 in a row!!! When I was looking at the post-bye schedule I was okay w/ a loss next week...now, hell no, another "W" vs. the Falcons!
November 21, 2010 at 07:12 pm
Could we knock out two head coaches in two consecutive games? I hope not, I want Chilly to stay in Minny for the rest of his contract!
November 21, 2010 at 07:15 pm
Awesome game.. All I am seeing is the Packer's getting better every week, despite the injuries.. guys are stepping up to the plate and making it work.. hopefully Ryan Grant will be in good shape for next year
November 21, 2010 at 07:19 pm
I just hope the Vikes don't move to LA. Now that they are horrible, we want them close.
November 21, 2010 at 08:03 pm
Yeah, if they did, the Rams would likely join the North after a realignment. Don't want that, they look like they actually have a future....
November 21, 2010 at 07:52 pm
I'll be in Atlanta next week. What a game it will be!
November 21, 2010 at 08:29 pm
I can't believe that Fox didn't move it up to their 4:30 time slot and NBC didn't try to "flex" it to their slot. Its going to be a terrific game.
November 21, 2010 at 09:50 pm
I read somewhere awhile back that FOX can "lock" up to 5 games a season, meaning they can't be flexed by NFL or NBC. 2 of the 5 were Packer games if I remember correctly.
November 21, 2010 at 11:20 pm
Is it me, or is it Joe Buck, and Troy Aikman really suck as commentators?
November 22, 2010 at 12:18 am
It's not you, they suck.
November 21, 2010 at 08:27 pm
Awesome win, and Greg has really stepped up his game since the Finley injury. This is the time of the year when MM's teams start churning out the wins. Go pack!
November 21, 2010 at 08:28 pm
I'm glad you said something about Zombo. The man flat out cannot pass rush and is just a body on the field. Someone... I don't care if it's Walden, deserves to take his place. What did Zombo do... Make one easy tackle against Visanthe?
November 21, 2010 at 08:53 pm
Ding Dong. The witch is dead. Adios, Favre.
Enjoy retirement.
November 22, 2010 at 06:53 am
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH----
What a world, what a world...who'd have thought a little GM like you could kill such a Quarterback as me...
November 21, 2010 at 10:35 pm
The Favre family priest, Father Tommy, was in their box at the Humpty-Dump. Brett probably has him there so Deanna won't glue his penis to his stomach.
November 21, 2010 at 11:41 pm
Brent, please come back for one more year, and bring Chilly with you-PLEASE!
November 21, 2010 at 11:52 pm
Sorry about over posting, but I hate the queens so much, always have! THIS GAME made my season-hahahahahaa
November 22, 2010 at 12:53 am
Interesting fact, the Packers have a league leading 106 net points on the season
November 22, 2010 at 08:49 am
It is clearly time to move on from the favre thing. Sweet as it has been to wallow in it and watch him squirm (and that whole mess of a team), it'd be a mistake to stay in it too long. This is about a pretty cool season we have a chance at...a chance to accomplish something wonderful. It should just be about "sticking" it right up the Vikings asses (though that has been an extraordinary side benefit!). This one convincing throttling does not "make" our season. A deep playoff run will make our season, not showing up Favre or Vikings.
Everyone is getting into the act...Woodson harrassed the opposing QB all afternoon...Hawk was actually in the backfield---ya, Hawk in the backfield---Bishop played another stellar game, O line protected, Jennings shined brightly, 1 penalty and no turnovers, a little production from the TE's, the hit williams put on Lewis to separate the ball, the list goes on and on.
Let's not get too caight up in the "us against HIM" mentality. It is "us against them"--the rest of the NCF. Then, with a little luck, it's us against the AFC.
